View Full Version : AF question
Sorry if this is too personal, but when did you all get AF back after giving birth? and what is the average? Not that I really want them back or anything.. but I am getting a bit worried.
4 months for me and ds was fully bf.
It was very sporadic for the first 8 months though.

It was over 12 months with DD#1. I think it worked out to be almost precisely 2 years from when I had the period before I fell pregnant to when I had my first post-baby cycle - not counting the post partum mess. Baby was b/f fully for 6 months and was still b/f until she was 3.
WIth DD#2, it was six months after she was born, pretty much as soon as she was eating solids. Needless to say I felt a bit ripped off. I was hoping for a longer "holiday".
Yes I am breastfeeding, does that make a huge difference?
Looks like, in the small sample group so far, that results are quite varied.
If you bf your chances of getting it back later are higher. Doesn't always work that way though.
Hormones, huh!

14 months after having Harry I got mine back. It started 2 months after Harry weaned himself.
Every woman is different, but don't think if you don't have AF then you can't fall pregnant because you can, you are still fertile even without AF showing her ugly head while b/fing.

Hi, i bled for 6 weeks and then got my period a month later while I was fully breastfeeding. No break for me! Since giving birth can I just add that my period has never been so heavy and for so long. My cycle has totally changed.

Lucky for me, I had the post-birth bleeding for 5 weeks and then 4 weeks later got AF back! And Tai is fully bottlefed.
On the other side of the scale too - my mother got her AF back straight away after having me - and I was fully breastfed - I unfortunately know this piece of information because 3 months after giving birth to me she was pregnant with my little brother!
However I have friends - who are bottle feeding AND breast feeding - who 6-9 months later still haven't got AF - so I think it depends on how lucky - or unlucky - you are :p
I weaned ds at 8.5 months and got AF a month later. Much heavier too. :(

Spencer turned 10 months yesterday and still no period. He's still being bf'ed and is onto solids.
hmm ok, so, it'll happen when it happens... I can live with that.
Thanks Girls!
