Hi all,

I went on Depo-Ralovera in November last year and had another dose in Feburary of this year. Now that I've been with my partner for a while I want to get pregnant (I say 'I' because I'm slowly bringing him around to the idea lol).

My understanding is that it can take a year or more to get periods back and to generally get back into the normal swing of things.

I guess my questions are:

1. Has anyone here been on Depo-Ralovera and gotten pregnant after coming off it? If so, how long did it take you?

2. Is it still possible to ovulate and not have periods return after being on Depo-Ralovera? I used to get ovary pain when I had my periods and those same familiar pains came back this morning at about 4am, so I was just wondering....... ;)

It has been 9 months since I had my last injection and I guess 6 months since that 'should' have worn off. Any advice would be greatly appreciated :D

Hello

I have a friend on Depo-Ralovera. She fell pregnant one month after the next injection was due (so I guess 7 months from the previous one) and with bub no 2 it took her a few more months - from memory it was 10 months. Good luck :)

Your doctor can get a blood test done in the week after ovulation was due, to see if you actually did ovulate.

If you are getting the ovulation pain, then maybe you could get the blood test done to see if it happened or not.

If you did ovulate, you'll know better where you stand, and be able to diarise your cycle to some extent.

Is that the same as Depo Provera?

That is what I used to have. But stopped it about 3 years ago as I was told my the doc it can take up to two years to regain fertility.

Thankyou for your replies ladies :D

A breakthrough for me JUST NOW. A peroid (or the start of one anyway).
No, I'm not pregnant but this is such a breakthrough!!!!!

And it looks like I was right about the ovary pain on the 14th :D:D:D I'm soooo excited that I can a least tell with my body what is going on. Hopefully that will make things a bit easier TTC.

I fell pregnant whilst on the injections, so I guess it all depends on your own body and experience.

Good Luck

well my sister had her 4th baby while in the middle of the injection cycle. So it's not very effective. But it did cause a few problems with her prgnancy... she had some clots that finally bleed out which scared her but Brie is a beautiful perfect little girl.

just a note, my periods went straight back to normal right after it wore off, but it still took almost 2 yrs to get pregnant. Apparently (according the the fertility specialist I saw) the after effect is that it dosen't stop you being fertile, it stops implantation.

So you have normal periods, normal fertile signs, ovulation prediction kits show you are ovulating, the whole bit, but you don't get preggers.

No implantation, no baby.

Yes. Depo Ralovera is the generic brand of Depo Provera.

Does anyone have any information on the long term effects of these contaceptive injections?
How long have these been in use?
Any replies will be appreciated,
Thanks in advance :)

Patricia - I just found a few things like :
If you are under 35 years of age when you first start treatment with Depo-ralovera, you may have a slightly increased risk of developing breast cancer. This is similar to the risk with oral contraceptives (the Pill). If you have any concerns about this, please discuss them with your doctor.
The use of Depo-ralovera results in a decrease in the amount of calcium stored in your bones. This could increase your risk of developing brittle bones (osteoporosis), which can lead to bone breakages in later life. This affects women of all ages, however it can be greater if you are under 18 years old. Your doctor will assess this risk before giving you Depo-ralovera and if you continue using Depo-ralovera for more than 2 years. The amount of calcium in your bones will start to increase again once you stop treatment with Depo-ralovera.

These were things i found by using google maybe you can do this & have a look (?) that way you can read all about it cause it depends on what your wanting to find out about in the way of concerns.

Bridget75au - I used Depo-Provera for 4 or so years & was told to come off it as it can take time to fall pregnant anywhere up to 3yrs so i came off it early 2004 as my partner & i planned to fall pregnant round about now & yeah not long after finishing with it & being lazy not going straight onto the oral pill or using condoms i fell preggers :/ whoops eheeheh but that all being said things have worked out well & im now a proud mamma !

I was on depo-provera (SP?) for 2 years and fell pregnant with DD while on it. My dr she had two women on the same day one who had been on Depo for 7 years and another for 6months and both pg. We are trying again so we will just wait and see. I know someone who was on it for 10 years and was about to try fertility treatment after stopping for 5 years and fell pg just before she was supposed to see a specialist

I was on the depo injection for nearly 5 years had my last injection Aug 2005 when my period first returned it was really heavy and painful found it hard to even go to to work. It took a year and a half for my period to return to normal I didnt take any other contraception since and didnt fall pregnant till february this year and am now eagerly anticipating the arrival of my baby girl due early november.
