i have just come back from weighing eliana & she has lost weight! i'm not exactly sure what to do as i don't know if it is a growth spurt or something more serious - i have noticed this last week that she has been drinking heaps & heaps of fluids but still eating well
- here is her weight's
10months - 9.1kg length 77cms
11months - 9.25kg length 78cms
12months - 9.13kg length 81cms
she has never put on alot anyway (long & skinny child) but i was just shocked she had lost weight - i did use a different scale but i don't think it would vary that much - she was 5.1kgs born so i guess i thought she would weigh more by now

Hi Melissa,

I know exactly how you feel. My DS is 14 months and only weighs 8.4kg  . He doesn't lose weight as such but he just doesn't put on (50gms in 6 weeks last weigh). We have been through the whole testing and paed etc and there is absolutely nothing wrong.

This is a stage where most babies are finding more mobility, eating different food and cutting back on milk so its bound to reflect in their weight a bit for those who dont put on quickly at the best of times. I wouldn't worry about it personally. If you are concerned, take her for a weigh in a month and see what happens.

Hope that helps some.

Yep. Weight gain can really slow down dramatically as they turn 1 year old and afterwards, and a little loss isn't really unusual. 0.1 or even 0.5 of a kg can definitely be due to differences in scales, or even if you're using the same one it might have been moved or gotten off "zero" in the meantime.

If it helps any, I can't think when I last weighed my daughter. Possibly 3 or 4 times in the last year since she turned 1. It was just too depressing to always see the needle hovering around the same number, so I quit weighing her. So long as she's healthy, active and growing I reckon she's fine.

I'm betting that your daughter is still growing, has probably gotten taller in those 2 months and is still developing well. Try not to worry and just keep offering good nutricious meals and snacks. Sometimes it seems toddlers live on air, but they'll eat when hungry and rarely a bite more than they need. Try not to push her to eatting, it will just stress you out and accomplish nothing :)

Good luck.

thanks girls - i know i am probably worrying about nothing & ive added her lengths so she has gotten longer & she is eating well & now that she has started crawling i guess she is using the extra there - i will keep on eye on her & ask the dr when she gets her shots
thanks again :)

It's only 120gm difference - that's just the amount of a decent wee or poo, not to mention the different scales.

If she's eating, growing and active, I would not be too concerned about a one off measurement like that.

Just keep an eye on it.

I wouldn't worry too much. My DS only put on 200g between 10 and 12mths, he is happy, healthy and Very active so I am not concerned.
Once babies get very active there weight platues(?).unless their weight drops suddenly by a considerable amount I wouldn't stress.

It sounds like you have a very healthy little girl there!

Don't worry, as has previously been said ... different scales, whether they have recently wee'd or poo'd can all make quite a bit of difference.

Neither of my kids put on much weight between 10mths and 2 years. They are 2y 9mo and 4y 8mo now and are 13.5kg and 13.9kg and were 5.94kg and 3.84kg born, respectively. They are also very tall kids and active, so I am not worrying about their weight. If they start lacking energy or stop eating, then I will get worried!

thanks everyone for putting my mind to rest - was just a bit shocked when it showed she was lighter
