Hi everyone
I am wondering whether people tend to get sicker with boys or girls. I am 10 weeks tomorrow and feeling a bit better this time around than with the last pregnancy .

So many people have commented to me that you get sicker with girls. Is this a myth????? For people who have had both a boy and a girl, what was your experience? Or if not, what about the people you know who have had a boy and a girl?

I am hoping for another girl, but have a strong suspision it's a boy, mainly because I feel ok!

A google search showed that "some studies" show no difference whereas other studies show a slight trend for women to feel worse with girls.

What is your experience, and/or of ppl who you know?????

thanks...Rachel :p

Firstly congratulations on your pregnancy!

I can tell you we are expecting a girl and I had cronic morning siickness to the point of a drip and drugs for the first 19wks!

I am feeling much better now... but I also have heard you feel more sick with a girl!

All the best!

I was not sick at all in either of my first pregnancies. This time I feel like I have a permanent hangover!

I am hoping this means I am having a girl this time.

I have only got a daughter but with her i was hospitalised with morning sickness and had it terribly until 24 weeks.

It will be interesting to see what other people say.

Well, my story may throw the "girl" myth out of the water
I had identical "all day" sickness with both pregnancies that began around 8 weeks and stopped at 16 weeks.
I wasn't hospitalised, but I can tell you it wasn't very pleasant at all especially with #1 when I was trying to pretend nothing was wrong at work until I was 12 weeks. It was just a really awful nauseus feeling, eating made it only slightly better - it is kind of like a hangover but much worse!

I have a boy and a girl and I had much worse morning sickness with my boy! I was throwing up and feeling sick a lot of the day. With my girl I threw up a few times but never really felt sick. I have been feeling the same as with DS this time, so I think it's a boy! Only time will tell........... :D

I have to admit, throughout my pregnancy with Ryan everyone told me it was going to be a girl as i had m/s from begining to end (I only got relief towards the end when they put me on a stronger drug...) however they all had to eat their words when i had a boy!!! :p

With my DD I threw up a few times and felt sick all the time but with me DS the morning sickness was muck worse and like some of the other ladies ended up in hopital on a drip several times. So for me my Boy was much worse

I only had a little morning sickness with DS but with this bubba I have had terrible ms!
Everyone keeps telling me it's a girl. I gues I'll know in 3 weeks.
I'm not sure how good the theory is because my SIL had terrible ms with both preg and had 2 boys!

All day sickness through all of my pregnancy with Bella!

One day of queasiness with Daniel!

One day of queasiness with Sam in the 11 weeks I carried him!

Nikki was Bella's twin, so all day sickness with her until I miscarried at 9 weeks!

I haven't had a girl but I know with my first son it started on the 13 February and ended on the 10th September!!!! Can't remember the exact dates for my second son but it was very much the same. I recently went to the dentist and he told me that there are signs of acid decay on my back teeth from it - youuuu boys!!!!!!

Hi,

I had no sickness at all with Grace.

This time I felt off for the 1st 12weeks, but now feel more energised than I did before I was pregnant!!!

A friend of mine was sick for the first 27weeks and had a boy, but she was also sick for most of her pregnancy when she had a girl.

Luck of the draw I think..

Hi,

When I was pg with my little girl, the morning sickness was tremendous until about 4 months when it began to taper off. :)
I am due to have my baby in March and I had convinced myself it was a boy because there has been very little morning sickness to speak of. :)
However, last week I had an ultrasound and I found out that it's another girl.
Of course either way we are delighted. :)

DD1 - one week of morning sickness
DD2 - one day
DD3 - absolutely nothing! (thought she might have been a boy, but she is all girl!)

I had all day morning sickness right up to even giving birth,

my first, a daughter, was manageable

my second, a son, was a shocker. (lost 16kg, three times in hospital, on constant meds ect - even had to be induced due to sickness)

I am having a boy and had no sickness whatsoever.

On the subject of myths.... I did the wedding ring on a string test and it said I was having a girl.

I have a 3 year old boy and did not once throw up with him and in fact felt really good throughout the pregnancy.....

I am currently 27 weeks and was constantly ill up until about 19 weeks and sickness has just started to kick in again....at the 18 week scan, we found out it was a girl.....

So my theory rings true...sicker with a girl than boys.....but I guess everyone is different!

I've had two girls, and both times had all-day sickness, worsening in the evenings, from 6 to 16 weeks, then it vanished.

This time I am having a boy. The nausea was worse, and lasted from 3 to 20 weeks. I then had 6 weeks of relative normality, before finding my appetite waning, and being nauseous in the evenings again.

Definately worse with a boy here.

Hiya :) I had a beautiful boy who for the first 5 months made me as sick as a dog 20 hours a day. I wasn't throwing up with him, just felt really sea sick all the time.... I did throw twice and each time it was a relief. I'd say the myth is a myth :) you feel sick or not depending on your own body :) Hope you keep going so well :)

Im just wondering do you guys believe that if you have bad morning sickness that you're having a girl? Everyones telling me that im having a girl cause im really sick with this baby than i was with Jayden. I wasnt sick at all with him. What do you all think?

that was why i started this thread. to see if the theory held up, but there doens't seem to be any pattern emerging so far from what people have said on this thread!

i still think i'm having a boy though as i am not sick this time but was quite ill with alice. though there may be no evidence, i am sticking to my theory!! (mark of a true scientist hey!!!! my supervisor would so proud...not!)

I had no m/s when pg with my dd. I would occasionally feel a little queasy but only if I was hungry, soon as I ate, it stopped. I had a very lucky pregnancy, felt great throughout, so having a girl was fine for me:)

It would be interesting to know if there was a science behind it. A lot of people i know had morning sickness with their girls and not their boys. I wonder if scientists have actually done tests? :)

i did an extensive review of the research literature on the topic (using Google LOL!!!) and basically found out that "some studies" show a slight tendency for women to be sicker with girls, but that "other studies" found no statistically significant differences.

like i said, i am sticking to my theory anyway!! :D

I have 2 boys and when I was pregnant with both of them I didn't feel sick at all.

Also now I have a little girl and was sick with her from about 6 wks till I was about 5mths. I used to dry retch at all sorts of smells.

well ladies
i just had my 13 week scan and asked about genitalia thinking she would say there's no way they can tell this early, and she had a look about and said, "I think it's a little boy!!!!

so, i have provided evidence (albeit N=1 :D ) to support my own theory that you get sicker with girls. I still feel fine with this little boy inside me. Only had one day of bad sickness at week 9 and that's all!!!!!!!

Well with my bubs i was sick from the get go all day everyday & only had one month off which was the 8th. Then the little bugger had me all excited that i could finally have some peace before he was born & then it came back the last month all of which i pretty much spent crying. I then also vomitted the majority of the way through my labour. I lost around 15kgs in the first 6mths & was nearly put into hospital time & time again but i refused as i hate hospitals. I had towels & pillows in the bathroom as i usually spent all day in there so at least i was comfy & i carried a bucket around the house with me.
I was rather miserable. Im hoping the next one wont be so bad. Actually im begging & pleading it wont be so bad. :(

I think it depends on you lifestyle. I felt sick with noah for about 14 weeks, no throwing up though, a part from the odd night towards the end where he didn't like what i'd eaten :p
This time I have had no morning sickness or queesyness at all. But I'm at home this time, and eating reguarly and not stressed out at work. Who knows, maybe it's a girl this time, probably not but we'll just have to wait and see :)

with my first bub (a girl) i had all day sickness from 5or6 weeks till about 6 months i threw up a couple of times and nearly threw up many of times from smelling food.I didnt eat much and lost 13kg and then i got my appetite back and slowly started eating again when i was 6months pregnant.I am nearly 12 weeks pregnant now and havnt had one ounce of sickness or nausea some days i dont feel like eating though but i think its great no m/s so i am yet to find out the sex of my baby so maby i am having a boy!!Will find out in 6.5weeks cant wait will come back and tell yas what im having.

I think the theory is right that most ppl are more sick with a girl. But i think there is also the theory that some ppl are more sicker with one of the sexes more than the other.

My friend had 3 girls and had m/s all day every day from day 1 until 2 weeks after having her bubs.Poor thing:(
