Ultrasounds!!!

Hey everyone,

I'm due with my second bubba on 29/8/07.

I'm just wondering how soon into your pregnancies you've had your first ultrasound as when I asked my Dr when I would have mine, she said not until 18-20 wks. I'm sure with my first one I had an ultrasound early in the pregnancy and then another one around 18 wks. So I'm just wondering when all of you are having yours coz I'd like to have one now just to know everything is going well so far...

I always thought the first scan was done at 12 weeks?!

The 12-week nuchal scan (to screen for downs syndrome, etc) is usually the first time most women have a u/s unless there is a reason they require an early p/g scan (eg bleeding, not sure of dates, etc).

Whether or not you choose the have the 12 week scan is up to you. Some women choose not to have it done, as it would make no difference to their choices. You may be low risk because of your age, but you may still want the peace of mind anyway.

I'm going to a private OB, so have already had a scan at 11 weeks, and I guess that's part of the advantage of going to an OB - that you can check on bubs in their office whenever you have concerns.

The only reason I got offered an early scan was because of spotting before a m/c
I got offered one after I fell pregnant at around the same time as my previous m/c

Had another ultrasound today because of brown spotting yesterday and today. Everything is A-OK!

You can also get offered an early one if you're not sure of your dates.

I had one at 6weeks - but only because of brown spotting. I have been offered a NT scan at 12 weeks -which I am still deciding on.

I think you could possibly ask for an earlier scan for peace of mind.

My obs had a peek at my first appt with her in her rooms, at 10 weeks.
I had a nuchal scan this week but if I didn't have that the next one would be at 19 weeks for the morphology scan.
With my son I didn't have another scan after that 19 weeks either.
