 Hi

I am new to this forum and was hoping I could get some advice/feedback. My daughter has just turned 3 and has always had a huge appetite. It never seems to fade and she just wants to eat ALL day. I have a newborn also so i do try and distract her as much as I can but dont always have the time.
She eats extremely healthy no junk food but just wants to keep eating. She eats really really fast and we have tried to slow her down and this is difficult. She seems to shove it all in as thoe she wont be fed again. She eats as much as me sometimes and would ask me atleast 10 times an hour for something to eat. She has never ever left food on her plate and has never had a time where she wont eat.

She is 100cm tall and weighs 18kg. Is this too much???

thanks Lo Lo

Dear Lo lo,

Your daughter certainly is at the upper range of normal for both height and weight for her age. It may only become a problem if her weight continues to increase out of proportion to her height, or outside of what is ‘typical’ for her age.

It is a bit unusual that she is constantly asking for food – particularly if she eats large amounts as it is. I would encourage you to continue to distract her as much as possible at the moment between meals and snacks. She may be eating out of habit or has learnt that this is a time when she can have some attention from you.

Also try to offer your little girl a drink of water instead of food in case she is not differentiating between the feelings of hunger and thirst.

If your daughter continues to be unusually preoccupied with food and eating large amounts frequently, it may be worth discussing this with your doctor or paediatrician.
