hiya guys

My female dog has changed so much in teh past couple of months. she follows DS and i around all the time, if she is inside she will sleep outside DS room - during this time sometimes she will walk into his room, check him and then come back out and ly down.
also the other day i had her in the car with me and no one else and i saw a old mate of mine. she was on the back seat and my mate popped his head in the window and asked where bubby was and she growled at him.

she seems to have become protective all of a sudden. when my mum looks after DS, if someone is over, she will sit right next to my mum.....

Is it a female dog 'thing'?
or is she getting protective coz shes coming on heat?
she turned 2 in about sept or oct - so i was thinking she has out grown her puppy stage and is maturing.

Thanks

Tamz

i think it may be because she is treated like a person and now feels she has to put others in their places.IYKWIM

I dont think she is coming on heat... as soon as she does you will know...you will have every male dog in the neighbourhood after her...i cant walk my female when she is on heat, we have every dog on the street jumping fences following her. (plus, im not sure if this happens to all female dogs but Laila 'bleeds' like a period the whole few weeks she is on heat)
I think she has just found her place in the family and is protecting you.

Hi,
I dont think it has anything to do with her coming on heat, some dogs do become prtoective I have not seen how she was raised so am unable to say why she is doing it,

thanks guys for the replies.

to tell you the truth she has got more attention. when i was pregnant and just had DS i didnt spoil the dogs(i dont now either)..but i treated them differently because i didnt want them getting jealous of the new addition. When DS got older i then started to let them inside for a little while etc... maybe they see DS as a positive thing and above them in the pack? :detective:

That sound exactly like the way Lily has been lately, but I think it's because she's pregnant. Any chance your dog could be too?
