Hi there,
This is my first post! However, I am planning to add to my family some time this year. I gave birth to beautiful Ruby nearly 2 years ago and it was quite complex to say the least!
I was diagnosed with Factor V Leiden and Prothrombin Gene Mutation before the birth, and had to give myself daily jabs of low dose Heparin (Fragmin) duringthe pregnancy and 6 weeks after.
I went public at Royal Women's Hospital in Melbourne, as Ruby was not planned and at the time was quite happy with the service and care. However, looking back with less naivity and more informed eyes, it was bloody horrible!!
I did manage to see the same OB each visit, however, he only measured my tummy and checked my BP each visit, trying to get me in and out of there ASAP. In hindsight I wish I arked up a bit due to my condition.
Here's why. Ruby came 4 weeks early from a placental abruption, and they found huge clots in the placenta after an emergency CS. She had an apgar score of 2 when born which later rose to 9 after O2. She is now absoultely perfect though!!!
What I want to know is, will I get better care and monitoring if I go private for my 2nd, and what do you reckon my chances are for a VBAC? I would never want to risk my baby's chances, but would prefer to try for a VBAC at least?
Any advice?:o

Hello,

I know this post is a year old but just wanted to know how you got along.
I have factor V also and have had 2 miscarriages.
Wasn't advised to inject for the second pregnancy just to take aspirin even though we knew about the factor V. Next time I will be injecting no matter what anyone says!

Best regards,

Tess.
