Hi all, I'm a first time mum to a one month old boy. I am bottle feeding him using Nestle formula and there is a couple of questions that I am unsure about.
1. I make his bottle to 150mL and half the time he drinks it all (usually at morning, midday & night) but in between he cries for more milk & only drinks about 50mL - 100mL - he will do this about 6-7 times a day. He will have a total of about 8-9 feeds in 24hrs. Unsure if I'm feeding him to much.
2. Also how many mL's in total should a 1 month old have? He usually takes about 750mL - 800mL per day. Is this to much for him?
Any suggestions would be a great help.
Hi congratulations on your new bub. There is no set rule as to how much bub should be drinking, you can use the amount on the tin as a guide but my DD would always drink more and my DS would always drink muck less.
If you think he is hungry offer him more, he will only drink as much as he needs.
Good luck

Hi, id just like to comment that how much they feed depends on their weight, so the back of the tin is just an average. I think it 150mls per 1kg of body weight. But I wouldn't worry I have a 1 mth old and shes doing the same thing, I think its a growth spurt thing. Just remember that if your bub was on the breast you'd have no idea how many ml's he was having.
I wouldnt worry just go of what they want, they know what they need. Hope this helps as Im no expert, Im just learning like you.

Hi Rachel,
I just had a look (we wrote them down because dr thought we were feeding him too much) at ds feeds about same age and he was having between 800ml and 900ml a day.
I was a bit concerned to, but he was a almost 9lb born, so I figured he might drink more. From friends experiences, they had the same thing. K was also feeding every 2 hours  up until about a week ago (he nearly 5 months) and I have now managed to stretch him out to 3 hourly feeds.
I think it may be a growth thing. K grew at least 1 cm per week from birth and has just recently slowed down.
Remember every bub is different and some need more than others.
Hope this helps :)

Thank you so much for your advice, I feel so much better now. My son was born 9pound 5oz & he is now 11pound. He is a big boy so I guess that's why he is feeding so often. I was worried if I was overfeeding but I feel at ease giving him the bottle when he needs it.
Thank you for all your help.
