Ever since I joined bub hub I have been meaning to post Travis's birth story - but what can I say, I am a bit slack. So I thought for his first birthday I would finally do it.
Travis was due on the 16th Jan 2006 - that was his scan date, the LMP date was the 8th but thankfully they took the scan date. On the 18th I was booked into to see the midwife for a stretch and sweep, however due to my funny cervix and bubs head so far down she couldn't do anything. I had a good chat with the midwife, came home had a vent on a forum(sorry I didn't know bub hub had a forum back then:o). A few things were starting to frustrate me, including everyone saying so when is this bub going to be born - this would be a good date :banghead:
At 12.20am on the 19th, I woke up to what felt like I had weed my pants. I wasn't sure if it was my waters or I had just had an accident. I had already been in hospital a few days before thinking they may have broke. I went to the toilet, smelt the undies -sorry but they told me that it the waters had a sweet smell. Couldn't smell at thing. Had no pain, so went back to bed, about 1/2 later just as I was going to sleep another gush, I thought as it was happening as drifting off to sleep I might be losing control of my bladder and cursing myself for not doing enough pelvic floor exercises. 1/2 hour later it happen again but this time I started having contractions about every 5/10 mins, so I got up to do the washing up. If I ever had Braxton Hicks I would get up do some house work and they would go away. Well this time the contractions starting coming stronger and more water gushed out with every contraction. I woke up hubby and told him I was ringing the midwives, they told me to come straight in, as I had strep B, I needed to have my antibiotics soon. I rang a friend to come and look after DS1 (we had it arrange that I might be calling in the middle of the night:D) .
I got to the birth centre at 3.30am, was having a lovely chat to the midwife on call, and getting the antibiotics when I notice my contractions were getting weaker. When my midwife came in, she told me to go for a walk around the hospital the get the contractions stronger again. So holding on to hubby we went for a walk, by the time I came back I curse the midwife, told her I didn't like her she replied "good it work then" She knew I was joking.
Contractions were now 3 mins apart, I told hubby no need to keep timing them - he was doing a great job, but we had got past that point. I stood with the shower head on my back for awhile the water was nice but when the midwife came in and suggested the bath again (I was a bit worried earlier - I had heard that a bath can stop contractions) I jumped at the chance. I don't know how long I was in there, but during contractions DH and I were discussing who we had to ring that day as we were going to be moving a week later, the removalists had been told we would give them a call after bub was born and a week later we would move!!!
Towards the end when the pain was getting really bad and I would half get up in the bath, the midwife told me that I would have to either have my bum fully in the bath or hop out, by then I wanted to hop out, I couldn't get a comfy position. The midwife put some gym mats on the floor near the bed. I knelt on them and lean on the bed and held on DH hand - screamed and pushed and screamed!!
At 6.07am Travis William was born, at first I was worried he wasn't crying (DS1 wasn't breathing when born but thats another story) but my cheeky little boy did a wee on my hand and let out a big cry.
Happy Birthday my Darling Boy, sorry we are not having the biggest of celebrations - next year I promise. Mummy and Daddy love you very much, as does your big brother. God Bless you!!
