paternity leave

i was just wondering if anyone's partners get paid paternity leave? coz we just found out that grant gets 3 days of it:yelclap:
its going to be very helpful as he wount have much holiday time saved up when bubs is due.

my DP works in a small business, and there is no paternity leave. however his boss is quite happy with him taking 2 weeks of leave regardless when bub arrives. :yelclap:

My DH gets 1 week fully paid or 2 weeks half pay and he is entitled to one day fully paid pre natal leave which can be taken in hours so that he can attend Dr appointments with me.

Mine can get 10wks (bear in mind he only works 3 days a week), but only if I have been working.

DH got a week unpaid leave when both kids were born (with 2 different jobs) But with bub #1, he also had 4 weeks of holidays saved up. Just took the week off last time though.. I'll never forget how hard it was contending with a toddler and a newborn when he went back to work..

DH got a week fully paid and then was lucky enough to have three weeks holidays. It was great because I had an emerg c/s so he was home to help for the first month!

My DH worked in state govt job and got one week paternity leave paid, plus he took a few weeks annual leave, which was wonderful, as I had a c/s, so he was a great help!!

Mine got one week paid (he's a teacher) plus he took a few family days. PLus DD was born just before hols, so that was a bonus, he ended up with nealry 4 weeks. :yelclap:
He can take the year off tho (without pay), if I returned to work-----not likely :laughing:

I think mine gets a week paid paternity leave plus he's taking a week of holidays after that.

I think (and I could be wrong) that all men at entitled to one week's unpaid leave, under the same rules that women (or the primary carer) is allowed to have 12 months unpaid leave. Permanent position, or casual longer than 12 months?

DH's job gave him 1 week's paid leave and they let him tack 2 weeks of annual leave on the end of it, so he was home for 3 weeks total which was wonderful.

I work at UNSW - I got 2 weeks paid paternity leave, plus I took a week of annual leave on the end.

so basically we are getting the short end of the stick again. GRRRR his bosses suck. they made it out like hardley no one gets paternity leave, adn that 3 days was more than what most do get. now i find out that most people get a week.

and he doesnt even get RDO's at his work either. they rip him off so badly.

This all sounds alarming. I thought that a woman who has been int he same full-time position for 1 year was entitled to 6 weeks PAID maternity leave, and that a man, who has worked full-time inthe same position for one year gets two weeks PAID paternity leave. I thought this was law???!

Nope paid maternity/paternity leave is not compulsory - but unpaid leave is.

Have to say that if I was running my own small business I would be out of pocket if I had to keep paying paid maternity/paternity leave on top of covering them and replacing the worker.

oh - in response to the OP my DH got 15 days paid paternity leave... but of course this is just a bonus, not all workplaces are this generous.

DH found out a couple of weeks ago that he is eligable for 1wks paid leave when I give birth........it can be taken any time within 12mths.

Of course it took until our 4th child before he found this out, no one would tell him anything before. :banghead:

My DH gets 2 weeks at full pay or can take 4 weeks at half pay as long as he is the primary caregiver of the child at the time.

I should be good when I go back to work......

I really think its so important that ALL workplaces offer PAID paternity/maternity leave to it's employees. The birth of a child is a social/family issue, and the period immediately following the birth of the baby should be one of the whole family unit being together to support one-another and take in this once-in-a-lifetime moment. I am the owner of a small business (so small, I don't yet have employ anyone), and I believe it is of utmost importance that employers establish a means to fund new families on their special journey for at least two weeks (and more for a mother)...it's part of the responsibility of employing staff to treat them with the greatest of respect. Only then will a business get staff who actually put in 100%, anyway. I've asked my husband to find out about paternity leave at his place of employment. It'll be interesting to see what they say. Aparently, they're quite laid-back, as long as one gives two-weeks notice. Only problem may be that my husband has a lot of responsibility that can't really be taken over by someone else. But in the end, it's the birth of his baby that is top priority - I wont let him have less than 2 weeks off! It's his time to get to know our new baby, too, and the worst possible time for a family to be made to be apart.

My company, which I might add has an awesome maternity leave package, offer the Dads 1 week paid paternity leave.

last time DH got one week paid and I got 12 weeks paid, new wages agreement has been signed now and so DH gets two weeks paid and I get 14 weeks paid.

I will get 6 weeks paid (or 12 weeks half pay), fathers in my company get 1 week paid that must be taken around the time of the birth.
My DH company does not offer anything, so he will have to take annual leave, which he has to give 2 weeks notice of, so don't know how that will work!

My DH is a teacher and gets just 2 paid days - but we are hoping to arrnge some carers leave or sick leave - my GP will def write a certificate for him after the hard time we had when DS1 was born - as he had just 2 days off then also.
