After having both my girls in cloth nappies for differing lengths of time I have found I have a lot of cloth nappies now that sit around not being used for very much at all. Besides using then fir the obligatory "spew rag", polishing/cleaning cloth I was wondering what else anyone else who has the same dilemma has used them for. I gave a whole heap to a girlfriend of mine to use with her bub but still have a bout 30 or so left so I came up with a few ideas so they didn't go to waste.
I tied died some and use them for beach towels (they are great for drying off the little ones and I hate big beach towels so I use them to wipe myself down and then wrap my sarong around me, it makes the beach bag a whole lot lighter and more room for toys!!)
I use them as tea towels in the kitchen, hand towels in the bathroom, to dry our hair so I don't have to wash twice as many full size towels.
I use them as sweat rags to wipe my brow when I exercise.
I think that is it but I am sure there has to be more uses......
i had about 30 which i never used i was using disposables... we used all ours when the partner worked on the car and cleaning.... and then i accidently knocked over one of those water coolers and it flooded our house so thats what we used to mop it all up and then threw them out... what a waste now i think about it !

Pretty much the same as you. Spills, drying hair, drying dishes. I bought my cloth nappies with no intention of ever using them as nappies, but just as burp and general cloths. They're a great size for catching and cleaning up vomit - small enough to be easily rinsed under the laundry tap before throwing in the wash. My hub keeps handing me big bath towels when DD vomits which are impossible. You try rinsing one end and the other end is in the dirty water in the sink!
If anyone has some nappies to get rid of and has no one to give them to, most vets and animal shelters are always in need of old towels (and blankets) for wrapping and drying animals.

What a good idea Martham I hadn't even thought of the vets or animal shelters.
The terry flats we use were used by a friend's baby so maybe you could pass some on to pregnant friends? They're fantastic in labour for heat packs/cold packs/mopping up drips. You could sew them into washable pads and never use bought ones again. That saves LOTS of money! :)
Now that I have two children toilet training there is no better "clean up" cloth for those accidents than the terry nappies. LEts face it for the first few months that's what they were for, why not keep using them that way. I also find them a good size that the kids can handle them easier for spills of any kind.
I've also had to use one for a sling when my brother broke his arm, or to catch a blue tongue Lizard. Also in the car on wet days to stop muddy shoes from going on the seat.

pardon the pun but my gosh nappies can be used for all that crap and then some. It is great to get a few new ideas. I am always worrying about my little ones marking the seats in the car with muddy little paw prints and never even thought of maybe putting an old nappy down (I hate car seat covers)!
Great one I found today .... I have somehow misplaced those tinted window coverings to keep the sun out of the kids eyes. Well I had both kids asleep in the car and the sun COMPLETELY on Alana, so I put a cloth nappy up through the window and it did the job wonderfully!!!
And who said the sun don't shine out where the nappies go??? ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!

Oh eleanor that is priceless!! LMAO. :D
I have to keep an eye on my stash whenever I see my Dad ... he swears that they are the best rags for everything, from window cleaning to checking the oil in the car!

I'll be using some of my unused cloth nappies for a nesting box for my Burmese Queen. She has 3 weeks left to go before she gives birth to her kittens (yes they are purebred and it was a planned litter).

we have a pile of about 20 which i have cut in half and they are stored in the kitchen to clean up the inevitable messes a toddler makes- when they get a bit threadbare then they go down to DHs shed and he can do with them what he wishes lol (generally stuff which ends up in them being thrown out). they are also great (cut in half) for wrapping around the kids froz drink bottles for school to absorb the condensation. They sure are useful for a looong time! :)
