Two kittens and a mother cat were found in our yard last week. The kittens are 4/5 weeks old (still on mummys milk). How soon after pregnancy can a cat get pregnant again?

Hi, once the kittens hit 6 weeks she could be out rtying to get pregnant again I would get her desexed as soon as the kittens hit 6 weeks or you will have a house full of kittens.

Cats are 'spontaneous ovulators'. A male cat has barbs on his penis which causes terrible pain on withdrawal. This pain stimulates ovulation in the female, hence why they are always pregnant! There is always a nice ripe egg on it's way.

Your cat can be preg again as soon as she's mated with so as soon as kitties are weaned get her desexed.

Hmmmm OK. So if shes still feeding them she should be OK?

I'm not planning on keeping her, and my boy cats are all fixed, but I won't give her anywhere if she is pregnant. I'll keep an eye on her.

Not talking to the original poster here but to everyone else....
GET YOU CATS DESEXED!!!
Do you realise what the percentages are for cats to be rehomed once in the pound? 5% reclaimed, 10% are rehomed and 85% are put to sleep.
Don't be so irresponsable, your talking like its no big deal. Go to a shelter and watch them mass put down animals because there is no room, NOT FUN!

I rang my vet and he said female cats can have up to 80 kittens in their lifetime. Thats a lot of kittens!

The mother will be desexed in 2 weeks.

When we found out that our cat is pregnant the Vet said if we didn't want anymore kittens, then to get out male cat de-sexed asap, as with femals it take a bit for them to get pregnant but once it has happend once then it can happen as soon as from 1 week sfater the 1st litter

just spoke to a vet about desexing - you arent spost to have a female cat desexed until 6 mths of age or u can do permanent damage to them :'(

Hi,
I will answer a few questions in regards tocats and desexing, they should be done around six months can be earlier in the peak season, they are spontaneous ovulators and they get pregnant quite easily otherwise we would not be putting cats down left right and centre, males it is a very easy proceedure, is more difficult with the females but they recover quite well, if you have a pregnant female and it is early in the pregnancy and you do not want the kittens you can ahve them desexed but it usually costs moe, this is not the best option but it is better than kittens being dumped or put to sleep. Yes all cats should be desexed as they cause alot of problems with our native animals and feral cats are a serious problem.Kelly:)
