Hey guys,
I have been reading everyones stories about naming their pets so i thought we could all share the creative ways we have names our fury family members.
We had a puppy literally walk into our house on christmas morning while we were opening our presents, he was covered in fleas and very skinny, he is now a great, much loved pet.
The vet told us he was a boxer cross and we already have a female boxer whos name is Laila named after Muhammad Ali's (boxer) daughter who is a boxer herself....And our new Puppies name is Clay after Muhhamad Ali's real name Cassius Clay.

My geeky husband named our puppy Leia, after the Star Wars character! If you think that's not lame enough, as soon as her parents have puppies again we're getting a boy and naming him Luke!
How embarrassing is that going to be when i have to take them to the vet? :p

One of my dogs is named Ayla, from the Clan of the cave bear, the best books ever. :D
When we got her, i thought my DH would never agree to TTC, so i used that name, otherwise it would be used to name a girl baby if we have one.
When we first got our pup he didn't look like anything (as in a charlie, fred, toby) so we left it...that night DP and DD were playing with sparklers and all pup wanted to do was catch and eat them:laughing: . Hence 'PYRO'!!
Everytime he sees fire, his little eyes go all wide and he wants to eat it!!:devil6:
well i dont really know how i came up with my older cats name, her name is cappy
as for my younger one, her name is Kaos (chaos) as she caused madness when we first bought her home... after we introduced her to our other cat they both went on a bit of a rampage through our house so while deciding to name her we came across the Chaos effect (or the butterfly effect, whatever you want to call it) and it all happened from there, we just changed the spelling to make it more interesting
We had a dog called JACK, we had a stray walk in so we names him RUSSELL
JACK-RUSSELL (get it)
than we got a cat, called her JILL
Jack + JILL (get it) lol

We had a little Pitty names Daisy - she was a yellow/orange colour and she smelt like she'd been playing in flowers when we got her. Daisy was stolen out of our yard not long after getting her, so we ended up getting another Pitty from the same litter. Sticking with the flower theme, we named her Lily Belle (because she's white)

I've always chosen my pets names long before I've gotten the actual pet!
I loved the way Raul Julia played Gomez Addams in the Addams family movies, so I decided when I got my cat he'd be Gomez or Raul - "Gomez" is now nearly 10 years old!
When I was around 19 I decided I wanted a black great dane to call "Vladimir".... Not really sure why, it just came to me. I got him through rescue about5 years later and lost him last year:crying: . While Vlad was still with us DH and I decided the next dane would be a merle and after seeing Lucius Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies I decided that was the next name! I didn't especially love the name after reading the books, but the character in the movie was so fantastic - a bit like the Gomez story!
I had a friend with a dog called Masseve (not sure if that was how it was spelt, pronounced Mass- eev, because she got him on Christmas Eve. I thought that was great!).

My old dog, Bear, was named after a character in the movie Big Wednesday.
Our cat, Malibu, was named after a Malibu bottle. I worked in a pub and we found a kitten (pure white) on the back step. DH was sitting at the bar while I was working and we were trying to come up with a name that wasn't Snowy and he spotted the bottle of Malibu behind me.
Our current dog, Ebony, is a black lab X, so self explanatory, and I wanted a girly name for her.

My very first cat looked like a tiger (very bold tabby), and i called her Tigger (very original, LOL).
Next was Golly (short for golliwog, not a piece of snot as some thought!), as he was black and white.
My female cat is Coco-Pop - because she's a chocolate tortoiseshell colour. Her babies were Gizmo - 'cos his face reminded me of the little Gremlin, LOL, and Cleo, 'cos she looked very graceful and like she had eyeliner on like Cleopatra.
My male cat is Binky (ginger persian). His mother's name is Bianka (Binky for short), and it just suited him.
DH's dogs names have been Oakey (a blue cattle) as DH got him from somewhere near Oakey , Blue (he was a red cattle, hence the nick name), and now he has Squirt (jack russell)...he was really little when we got him, so it just stuck.
My dogs names have been Bandit (little mini-foxy) who was such a terror...it suited him so well.
Next was Turbo (another mini-foxy), who never stopped. When he got older he used to run around and around the house for no reason, so it suited him! LOL).
Now i have Cougar (blue cattle). I had it picked for a while (don't know why), and i got him and he was so skinny and weedy looking, it didn't suit, but now he's the biggest bulkiest dog, and it makes him seem 'butch'!
Gosh, we've a had a few animals haven't i?! :o

Our first is Ruby. I chose her name cos I thought it was cute and I didnt have kids to call it! Was going to be Pedro for a boy!
Then we adopted another labrador, and her name is Gem.. which was kinda freaky..
And the new puppy.. I thought I should keep with the theme so shes Topaz! Shes also brown so it fits well!
So we have in age order
Gem, Ruby, Topaz!
Our cat is bill.. he was another adoption.. lol

I got a male kitten from an animal shelter. He'd had a rough start and was a bit of a scaredy cat so I called him Hercules, thinking it might give him a bit more confidence.
4 weeks later one of my friends said 'um, Karen your kitty isn't a Hercules, it's a Xena'. I didn't realise the shelter had made a mistake - I don't check out her bits! So she's been Xena ever since.
Nice as pie

We called our kitten storm as at the time DF had a Holden Storm Ute which he then had to replace with a family car because we had a lovely surprise on the way... So now he always has a reminder of his car and he doesn't like her much, hahaha
Our dogs name is Xabi (pronounced Zahbee) because he's a pure bred Rottweiler and his mums name is Xena. Apparently you take the the first letter in the mothers name and use it for your puppy... (DF advised me of this)
So there ya go!! :)

Jesse came up with the name for our Jack Russell - he called him 'Vern' from the character in the movie 'Stand by me' - he was the frumpy kid who the others were always waiting on..."c'mon Vern...c'mon Vern"
Our previous dog was a German Shepherd called Santino (San for short), which was taken from The Godfather character that James Caan played, because the character was fiercely loyal and protective of the family.
Our dog is called Rusty, we were looking at Pet Name Websites and that name came up, we looked at the dog and thought yup thats the name for him! :D

I had her the name Chaos for a dog a few years ago and thought it was such a clever idea, I decided to name our puppy this because he is so restless and destroys everything  so his name suits him to a t. If he was a girl I would have called him either Millie or Lola.

Growing up I had a collie called Rusty cause that was his colouring. A cat called Jemima (good old playschool).
During my first years out of home I had budgies called Maverick and Goose and fish called Popeye (googly eyed fish) & Olive Oil (silvery colour).
I then got my two cats. They are brothers, a black/white and a ginger one.
The ginger one was originally called Tripod as he had a bag leg and only walked around on three. After the first few months the bad leg healed and we decided to rename him. He loved the smell of Mangos and attached the fruitbowl a few times so being ginger got named "Mango". It soooo suits him the little bugger LOL.
The black/white is named "Scooter". Mainly because he scooted everywhere really really fast, never walked always ran. He gets Scooty though.
Sorry got carried away, Love my cats!!

lol I'm a bit ashamed to admit we're lacking in cat names in the past few years.
Grace who lives with me, spent sometime at my mums place and fell in love with her male cat(a rather feminine male cat)... Mum called her Grace "the f@g hag" ...she watches too much Will and Grace lol
My sister calls Grace "Shly" (she was drunk) because this cat ALWAYS crept up on people! You could never hear her coming! lol
The male cat my mum has (I still consider them my cats), is Cadbury "White Chocolate"... he's pure white and snowball sounded too common.
There is also a female cat there, who was part of twins (Male and Female), her name is The Girl, her late brother was called The Boy lol So creative!
My favourite cat name of all time, was our Gandolf "The Grey", after of course Lord of the rings. My dad named that one, and it suited so well! Was such a smart and caring little thing.
Some names I have absolutely no explaination for are: Fitzping, Ming Ming, Sweety, Groucho (why we chose it, dunno!!), Fizgig(my sister says it's from a movie?).
Oh wait, and my sister was given two mice many years ago... she called them ... Split and Enz! but didn't realise they were male and female and the novelty wore off lol

My DF wanted to name our SON Luke- so he could say "Luke .......I am your father" in the darth vadar voice!:o
We got our Dogs name TOBY from a baby book- but now that we are child bearing we would have loved the name for our boy.......so the lesson is all our pets will have 'pet' names from now on (like Rover!)

Oh you did the same thing we did, except we called our boxer kosta....get it....
We have 4 fur kids!!!
Our oldest is Zen, a boxer. DH use to be into Ninjitsu (martial arts) so he named Zen after a well-known Japanese ninja named Zenjubo.
We have a black and white cat named DJ. He was a crazy kitten who use to go nuts and claw the hell out of everyone. We named him DJ because he scratches (as a dance music DJ would "scratch" his records.)
Then we have a boxer cross shar pei named Sumo. He was wrinkly and chubby when he was a puppy hence the name.
Our fourth fur kid is Narni who we adopted from the RSPCA. She was already named so we kept it. I have an idea that her name was derived from an Italian word (one that Ali G uses quite regularly).....
I named my first dog Charlotte because according to my baby name book, its meaning is a french derivative of 'petite beauty'. As she is a chihuahua and she is gorgeous (biased fur-parent here :) ), I thought the name was very appropriate.
My other dog Mollie was named that just because I liked it :)
They are both currently cuddled up to me as I type this... I love my girls :)

We have one cat who sadly lives with my mum whilst we are in our unit. Bronte is 12 and was named the Brobte Family. THe year I got him was reading a biography of the Bronte's and it said that all the Bronte's weren't exactly stable and often at dusk or dawn would run through the moors nude. And of course Bronte as a kitten went berserk every sunrise and sunset.
Although we don't know if he knows he's a cat, he sits on comnmand, is frightened of heights, comes when called and when he was little he went for walks on his lead.

Our boxer Hudson is named after the movie Hudson Hawke
Because I have had so many pets I chose a theme to use.....
Siamese Fighter Fish 1. = Fruit Tingle
Guinea Pig 1. JD = (aka Jack Daniels)
Siamese Fighter Fish 2. = Coopers (after the beer)
Guinea Pig 2. = Sam (aka Sambuca)
Border Collie - Female = Tia Maria
Next dog will probably be Bailey....the list of names are endless!
My brother worked in a mechanics shop owned by my pop and they have always had a german shepard there as a guard dog....they got a new pup and my brother named it Castrol....very fitting for a mechanic shop.

ok all of these were childhood pets....
Black cat- called Blackey(its how I spelt it I was 6)
Cockateils-#1-Blinky Bill (he blinked a lot) #2 - original kids we were Blinky Bill 2.LOL
a chiahuah cross - we were trying to figure out a name and I can't remember what I said first but I came out with the phrase "Don't even think about it Buster" and then we all decided Buster was a great name!
Later on we had a cat and she went unnamed for a fw days bu then we realised that she liked tearing stuff to shreds we thought it was kind of appropriate to call her "Buffy"- the furniture slayer LOL
she had kittens and there were too that were similar except one was a boy and another was a girl (they were the ones we kept) and one was "Spot" and the other was "Dash"

Mine is sooooo embarassing. Jessi was named after the guy who got Aundrea Pregnant in 90210!!! He was Big, Black and beautiful, like My Jessi! Bear was named Bear, cause she looked like One (not too creative!)
Jay is called J For Jessi
Asi is Asiatic (a breed of Bear) Namesakes, they both are.:hugs:
Peole think mine is stupid!
We have 2 cats...
One is Bucca (pronounced Book-a) as in Sambuca. Her middle name is Adidas, with an emphasis on the 'i' as an 'eee' sound. (my fave sports brand)
Our other cat is named Bailey (a little more normal!) He is the colour of baileys and I wanted to stick to the alcohol theme. He didnt have a middle name until he got Microchipped and they tattooed a big 'M' in his ear which is really noticable (which im not happy about because he is such a beautiful cat!) so his middle name is Martini.. :D
Funny because I dont even drink alcohol!
I had just taken my cousins little girl to see Scooby-Doo and then she came to help me pick out my dog from the breaders and she named him Scooby. Our other dog was dh's that he had had since before we moved in together but I helped him pick it we called him Benji 'cos of the movie.

Bull Arab X Bull Mastiff - ZILLA - cause we jokingly used to say that to someones hand if we were playing cards to make their cards be sucky and that round to go bad for them if that makes sense, and we bought Zilla cause we got broken into and decided we need a guard dog so we named her that so things would go bad for anyone who tried to break in.....
Long Haired Chihuahua Male - JAXON - Cause we weren't having any more kids and I loved the name......
Long Haired Chihuahua Female - SOFI - Cause she has such a soft and gently personality and the name seems to match it.......

I didnt know they tattooed animals for microchipping......im gonna get my dogs done and they have the desexed tattoos in their ears and i also thinks its so ugly :(
Kel:smiliedance:
they dont always tattoo them and you can request its not done.
As it is a real tattoo they will only do it if they are under anasthetic. Bucca had hers after she was desexed but Bailey had his done when he was desexed so they did him.
I dont think its needed these days as vets and shelters always scan for microchips anyway regardless of a tattoo or not.
