Hi all,

I'v been wondering what you all mean when you say that your bubs have "no routine?"

How do you work solid food, sleep etc in?

Just curious as MJ's decided to drink constantly for the last 3 days.

Thanks

Hey,

I think people with kids on a routine mean doing things at a set time each day. e.g. feeds at 6,10,2pm etc.

I don't know about everyone else but when I say no routine, I mean that my DS has a bath at about the same time each night , a top up and goes to bed and thats about the only thing he does at the same time each day.

He is demand fed and sleeps whenever he is tired, so the times change all over the place (presently he has been asleep for 3hrs but this time yesterday he was unsettled)

all of this is no help if your little one is constantly feeding! all I can say is that they have days like that and it probably means that bubs is growing so all the extra feeding will stimulate your milk to become richer for bubs.

On the days when my DS feeds alot I find I can run out of milk so I try to space him out a bit later on in the afternoon by letting him such on something else like my finger or a dummy.

good luck I hope she settles soon!

i just do what coby wants when he wants... but wont be like that when he is older!! ;) he wakes when he wants... feed when he wants... sleeps when he wants... but it is usually around the same time each day anyway

Like Cobysmummy :) Ds eats when hungry, sleeps when tired, gets a nappy change when needed. :) Much like an adult, really ;)

Ok we've pretty much done that since birth. I'l try to feed her at certain times but if she wants it earlier or later its her choice. I'm not going to starve her after all.

I'm thinking she's going through a growth spurt at the moment though as she's been feeding on and off all day, and napping for about 40mins at a time in between.

Anything else it could be?

It occured to me after my last reply.

How hot is it where you are? It has been very humid already in Sydney and we have had a couple of realy hot days too.

Is it possible she is thirsty from the heat?
I know my little one drinks more when its hot , particularily overnight. You may find once a cool change comes through she goes back to eating more as she did before.

It could also affect her sleeping as well, just as we find it hard to sleep when its hot.

Just another idea.
Take care
M.

Hi M,

I'm thinking thats what it was. We're up in Wyong so pretty much the same as Sydney though not quite as humid cause we're near water.

Today she's back to 3hrly feeds. Still not sleeping great but she's happy & thats all that matters to me. Night sleepings not so bad but i think the noise of the fan in our room might have helped her a bit as well as the cool breaze.

Was at the clinic for older baby group today and they kept going on and on about the importance of routines blah blah blah. I tuned out, was having a much better conversation with MJ :D
