Hey there,.. My daughter is 5 months old,..and I still wrap her for all her daytime naps,.and her night sleep (usually 10hours),... when should I stop? How do I make the transition???? She seems happy,..but surely she won't want to stay wrapped forever?

I had excatly the same problem. My Harry was born in March and I wanted to wrap him through winter, but then he become so depended on it that he couldn't sleep without it. I finally made the decision to stop wrapping when he was 7 months. I started to wean him off it very slowly as I didn't want it to be too much of a shock for him. I first of all started by not wrapping one arm in. Did this for all day and night sleeps for about 4 days, then kept the other arm out for another 4/5 days. For a few nights he was unsettled but I expected this, he would just wake up and I would have to go in and reassure him he was okay and then he'll fall back asleep. Then I moved onto loosly wrapping his legs until after about 3/4 weeks he was totally unwrapped.
I had many debates in my head about this. Why would I want to disturb his sleep, he sleeps so well (10 hours), But it is getting into summer and it is too hot for him to be wrapped so tightly. In the end I had to make the decision for him as he didn't want to give it up.
As I said he did have a few unsettled nights but it's been 3 months now and he is back to sleeping unwrapped like he was wrapped. The only thing I have noticed is that when he is going to sleep he brings the sheet up to his face and snuggles it into his face. It must just be his own settling technique.
Good luck with it. PM me if you need to chat more about it.

Thank you for that suggestion! I think it is going to come down to biting the bullet, so to speak, and putting her to sleep partially unwrapped - I just am enjoying the sleep at the moment! I'll let you know how I go!

I kept wrapping Eloise until about 7 months or so as well. She kind of weaned herself, wriggling out of the wrap no matter how tight I did it - like Houdini!!! :p

She wasn't being wrapped for her day sleeps, so I just let her control the situation for a change!

Hi,

I have a 9 month old daughter who still likes having her legs wrapped before she falls asleep. I started doing the half body wrap at the beginning of summer. Lots of other mums I know seemed to stop the wrapping point blank around the 4-5 month mark.

I've noticed that dd falls asleep quicker if she has her legs wrapped. I presume it's become her sleep cue and she feels comforted by it. Somehow she always manages to pull a corner of the wrap (I use a cot sheet) up to her face to snuggle. Sometimes I even find it over her face when she's asleep. If I just put her down without wrapping, she squeals with delight and stays that way, playing for up to an hour sometimes! I've tried just putting her under a normal sheet, but she kicks her legs up straight away and 'escapes' to start crawling around like it's a party.

After reading the other posts, I'm going to start weaning her from wraps now. I want to buy her a grobag in time for the cooler months. Can anyone recommend them? I know they're pricey but are they worth it?

my son is 4 months old and i stopped wrapping him at 2 1/2 months. he just doesn't like it, he'll kick out of it too no matter how tight I wrap him.... same if I just cover him with a normal blanket.... i guess it's ok for the meantime because it's summer but I'm really worried about winter. i'm not also sure if he's gonna like the sleeping bag. :(

Thanks for all your thoughts guys,... I tried not wrapping Scarlett's arm yesterday, and she too squealed with delight and lay awake flapping about and tickling herself,..too funny! She has a grobag/sleeping bag, but it leaves her arms free - and it is the arms that are the problem! They get up to so much mischief!!! Maybe I should just keep her under wraps for a little while longer!

Hi there,
both my boys were wrapped Jaycob until he was bout 4 months, he just decided one day that he didnt like it. Tyler is 5 months now and showing no signs of being unwrapped I have tried but like Scarlett his arms get up to too much no good. he is not wrapped in the day only for the first long sleep at night. I found that wrapping him a muslin wrap wearing either just a singlet or just a nappy has helped on the really hot nights. I just figure that noone is wrapped for most of their childhood and Tyler will unwrap himself one day (i hope)

my little girl is 6mths and i still wrap her day and night. (arms only though) she just seems to get a better and longer sleep. if i leave arms unwrapped it is really hard to get her to go down to sleep, and she sleeps for much shorter periods. i think it is just her routine now to be wrapped and she feels comfy and cosy. (she always has one arm out by the time she wakes up! ). so i think ill keep doing it till she stops liking it!

Hi there

I stopped wrapping isabella as soon as it got hot, she would sweat so much that she would't settle, now she lays flat on her back with her arms and legs out wide (kinda loks like her dad when she does that  )

I've recently started wrapping my 5 month-old again after having stopped when he was 2 1/2 months! He's recently started rolling and pulling his dummy out, which is making it really difficult for him to fall asleep on some nights. He doesn't seem to mind the wrapping again, and it's helping him to sleep!

I stopped wrapping DS just before his first birthday! I had no problem with wrapping him this late, he was happy, so I was happy! I let him lead me, eventually he only wanted his waist and legs wrapped and then he didn't want it anymore!!
