Hey there not sure if this is in the right area, however I am having my little boy sat on friday night, by a friend's daughter and I was just wondering what is the going rate for babysitting these days?

I'd say about $10.00 an hour is average. Depends though. How old is the babysitter?

 if i knew babysitting gets ya $10 an hour i'd take on anyones kids
definately depends on the age i reckon. if she's a teen she would be happy with less im assuming.. also how long you're leaving your son for.
I used to baby sit when I was about 14-17, so did a few of my friends and the going rate was $10 an hr.

I think it depends on the age, experience and any qualifications of the babysitter.
When I was 14 to 18ish and used to babysit it was around $10, negotiable. Now that I have Early Childhood Qualifications, First Aid training and a heap of experience, I still do a bit of babysitting from time to time but ask for a bit more.
I would pay a teenager $10.00 per hour. If it was someone with more experience i would expect to pat $15 - $18 per hour.
good luck

When I was about 16 I babysit occasionally for my mums friend she gave me about $50.00 for the night and then drove me home regardless of what time she got home I was more than happy with that all I did was sit on my bum watching Tv the kids slept most of the time:)

Thanks heaps for all of your suggestions, now I have an idea of how much, I was thinking along the $10 line but didnt want to offend, It's been a while since i was in the sitting game. Anyway thanks again.:smiliedance:
ok thats it. im going to start charging! i look after a few kids every now and then but never get anything.. usually even pay when we go out.
sounds crazy now though!
I work for a babysitting agency in Perth and we charge $15 per hour, but keep in mind we are all over the age of 18 and all have experience, police clearance, drivers license and medical cetificate!
And we are one of the cheapest in perth !

when i was looking after a friends 2 children i would get around $50 but i would pick them up from day care at 4 and would have them untill about 8pm, i would do this 5 nights a week, so for me who was at school at the time that was a good earning of $250 per week

I pay DD's babysitter $10 an hour. She is mid 20s and works at DD's childcare. So pretty highly qualified, full first aid training, etc. I wouldn't pay a teenager that much, but rates might vary regionally.
We use my best friend's sister - she's 20 and works full time but does some sitting to save up for stuff (clothes, holidays etc).
We never know how much to pay her and she never knows how much to charge. For 4-5 hours of sitting we usually give her about $25-30 and she's happy with that. (Believe me, I know that's not much but we've spoken to her heaps about it and she won't take any more!)
She does get it pretty easy though, my kids are usually fed, changed and ready for bed. So all she has to do is brush their teeth, read a story & put them to bed! Immy is in bed by 7pm, the others by 8pm then she has the rest of the night to herself and usually falls asleep on my couch!
Personally, I wouldn't pay more than $10p/h for babysitting. The stress of the cost isn't worth it just to catch a movie or something. We mainly plan nights out when the kids are at the grandparents house.

on public holidays like new years eve baby sitters here can charge up to $200 for the night:eek:
generally, i would pay a teen $10 an hour and if they had a few qualifications etc i'd be prepared to pay more.
