Hi there, I'm a new Mum of 1mth bub. after each breast feed I burp him for a while until he burps and then he falls asleep. He sleeps for about 10 to 15 minutes before he wakes up and needs to have another burp. Am I not burping him long enough after each feed? Does any one have any tips? How long should you burp them for? Am I doing it right, I sit him on my lap and pat or rub his back.

I burb Lachlan the exact same way - on the lap and rub/pat his back. When he is looking sleepy I put him over my shoulder and continue the patting etc and sometimes another burb comes. However, occasionally after being put to sleep in his bassinet he will wake up 20 minutes later needing a burb again. I don't know why it happens sometimes and not others. Sorry I can't help with any advice but just some comforting words that someone else experiences the same thing!

Hi Hunters Mum,
What a cutie - I love it when babies burp!
There's actually not too much you can do to make them burp, from what I understand. All the patting and backrubbing is probably not making too much difference - the burps just come when they come.
I wonder if you can keep him up a little longer before he sleeps? Perhaps that will get them out more. Other than that, you might just have to accept you have a particularly burpy baby, and resettle him after his wakeup. It will pass soon - they seem to get less burpy as they get older (until they turn into a teenager, then I'm guessing it returns).
Good luck!
