Hi everyone

I am currently looking into becoming a Doula.

I have enrolled in the Optimum Birth Course but have since found Child Birth International

Im wondering which course I should do.

Any advice and stories/experiances with differnt organisations would be appreciated:thumbsup:

Have trained with both and would recommend CBI hands down! Optimum birth is a good course but CBI I found to have better support, quicker responses, more indepth topic coverage, better materials plus they run Aussie workshops which I was fortunate to attend last year and it was excellent.

Good luck!

Hi there,
I'm currently completing the optimum birth doula course. It is fantastic.
Dr Christine Vose is the course director and is an amazing woman.
Optimum birth has a great reputation and I'm proud to do my training with them.
There is a tutorial monthly that you can attend.
Good Luck and enjoy what ever training you decide to do.
best wishes tazmin:hugs:

Optimum Birth seems to be the most in-depth course (that's the feedback I've always recieved) and is linked with the doula register of Australia. I found those two points very important when making my decision , and I've enjoyed the course imensely. Dr Christine Vose is a doula, plus a doctor of midwifery, who also lectures at a uni. She is also an independent midwife, so she really really knows her stuff, and is the most lovely woman! I've always had very prompt and in-depth replies from her personally, and she has personally marked all my modules, which has been lovely. Whatever course you do, enjoy! The work of the doula will not bring you much money, but if it's your passion, your unlikely to find anything else more rewarding.

hey Adele... I am looking into doing this course as well.... so thanks for starting this thread it will be intersting to see the responses. From what I have read though the Optimum Birth Course seems to be more popular..... do you know how long it takes to do? and also how much is it????? Sorry to crash your thread :p :D

I have begun the Optimum birth course, and I am loving it. I have completed the first 2 modules, and have today looked in my first client, and am really looking forward to putting everything I have learnt into action.

The cost of the course is $110 per module, or $400 if you buy them all at once.

I have completed teh first 2 modules in about 2 weeks, but the time will vary as to be fully qualified you need to have been at 3 births as a trainee doula also.
