Hi
I'm hoping someone might shed some light on what my junior is trying to do. I put him down to sleep and he twists the top half of his body on the side and pushes his head backwards so that he is looking up at the top end of his cot. This goes on for about half an hour with him grizzling all the time until finally he goes to sleep. When he does go off to sleep he straightens his back and lies flat. I've tried to turn him on his side to see if that is what he is trying to do and this frustrates him more and I've tried flattening him but that doesn't last long. He is 10 wks old. Any ideas on what he's trying to do as it looks very uncomfortable.

I'm not sure but my 5 month old does the same thing. Sometimes accompanied by grizzling and sometimes I put her down asleep and she briefly wakes tilts her head right back as you say and then goes back to sleep. She also seems to right herself after a little while. I'd love to know why also!

hi girls,
maybe they are trying to roll over onto their tummies? I know all about SIDS, so i know of the dangers of them being on their tummies to sleep, but they ofcourse dont!! :p My Joshua used to do this also even when he was wrapped, then when he was able to roll, he always rolled onto his tummy to sleep and was quite content. So i figure that's why he did those strange things..
Hope this helps :)

my caleb's 4 months and does exactly the same thing....then as soon as he lands on his tummy he whinges. he does this everytime now even at night i have to keep an extra eye on him. one time he was on the floor he turned and landed on his tummy, he tried to turn back instead he hit his head on the floor. i don't know if i'll laugh or feel sorry for him 'coz he screamed to the top of his voice. :o

Hi there
Isabella is doing the same thing and she can roll both ways so i don't think thats what she's trying to do.
maybe this is just their way of settling

Hi
Thanks for the replies, he looks like he's trying to roll. He's planting his foot and pushing with it. It settles him most times but sometimes he takes ages to get off to sleep - all the while he's loosing his dummy so I have to keep shoving it back in!
I'm going to try Bowen therapy on him just in case he's got some sort of pre-birth back issue happening as he's only twisting onto one side - might as well cover my bases

Think it is definately a trying to roll thing. :) She only does it on one side - the other side she does actually roll over onto her belly. This can be a pain because she can't roll back yet! She might stop when she rolls both ways  Anyways here's hoping she learns to roll back onto her back soon so she stops crying in frustration!
