View Full Version : Lost All Hope With Solids
Help! My 7mth DD is sending me crazy. She seems to reject everything I try and feed her at the moment. One day she likes something the next day no. She'll only take yoghurt and fruit off a spoon. Anything else I have to feed her by hand and that's if she'll even eat it. Vegies are my main issue. I resorted to roasting potatoes, pumpkin etc and she was eating them like that for a week or so but now she won't touch them. Any other vegie like brocolli, corn, peas etc she will clamp her mouth shut. I've tried covering them with fruit or yoghurt but no go. What can I do? Resort to a fruit and yoghurt eating only baby. I want the best for her but I'm wondering if all the stress is worth it.
It's ok for babies to not have any solids until 12 months and each one starts in their own time. :) Here's some reassuring stuff about it all. Sounds like you're offering your baby great food and as soon as she's ready she'll tuck in!

ditto to what janet said! i know we are made to feel pressured to feed our children solids from 6mths or even younger, but its really not necessary, and it sounds like shes not ready yet, so dont worry about it, she wont starve :) my daughter will be 1 in a couple of wks and is only just starting to have (very very) small amounts of solids, and prefers finger food (ie vegemite sandwich, milk arrowroot, banana etc) to anything i give her on a spoon :)

my 7 month old son has been having solid food from 4 months.. the poor lil fella was starving i think... he just needed a bit extra to what he was getting...
At the moment i cant eat a thing without him wanting some.. so im not really able to give much help... but i would just give milk... (breast or bottle.. whatever shes on) only for a week and then try on normal solids again.. see how that goes... sorry im not much help.. but anything is worth a try i guess!
Good luck :)
I have recently had HUGE success with raisin toast. Just a suggestion if you want to try something different.
Also, it might be worth mushing up fruit or even some veg and putting that in the yoghurt?
oh yes, me too cathy, tilly loves raisin toast. i have also had some luck with yoghurt and like her brother she much prefers some potato, pumpkin and other vegies mashed up then anything out of a tin (not paying out tinned food anyone, just saying what my kids liked :) )
My son has been fed solids since 3mths but he went off it know and again whatever I had to offer him. To this day he might not feel like a meal but wants a bottle instead.
Good Luck anyway...
Absolutely do not stress!!
My son flat out refused anything until well in his eighth month, and by that time, he decided he wanted to go straight to finger food.
Just relax and go with the flow, you really will know when she is ready!
My little Chloe did the same thing not that long ago & then i realised that it was because i tried changing her feed time so i went back to the way it was & shes been fine ever since or maybe it was just a thing that she was going through. Any way don't stress too much about it she;ll want it again soon or latter. The thing with Chloe is that when she was doing this she still ate food from my plate so..Good luck with it :D
My bubba LOVED pureed sweet potato as a first food - more than any other vegetable. It is very smooth when mashed, (nicer texture than potato or pumpkin) and a little bit sweet. Have you tried that?
I agree with the other mums - many babies just want to feed themselves, and so you have to wait until they are 9 or 10 months and taking finger food - and that is just fine from a health point of view, if they are growing well on breastmilk or formula.
