I know just now, he can't ask for one.. But it will probably happen one day..... what am i going to say!?@!?

Ruby loves snakes and recently told me she wanted a pet snake after being in the Reptile House at the Melbourne Zoo. I don't like snakes in my house, so my answer to her was a big fat no.

LOL, snakes and cats are two very different things, i would be saying no for sure to the snake!!!!
I prefer snakes to cats.
I HATE cats too, no way I'd ever get one, get him a puppy :D He'll forget all about cats! LOL
Just because he may want, doesn't mean he has to get....! ;) :p .
I know we'll never have a cat either  . Not because I don't like them, but because I'll not allow a kitty litter tray in my home. I hate the mess & smell! And in my area, you have to keep cats in at night, so I'd have to have a litter tray. YUCK!!!:barf:

owwwww, no fair! Better he want a cat than a snake (or something that isn't a common house pet)
Now I agree, just 'cos he wants doesn't mean he should get.. BUT just 'cos you don't like doesn't mean he should miss out

I totally agree, just because he wants it doesn't mean he gets it! Don't get me wrong, im not a giver inner!
But my point is excatly ur last sentence.... I don't think its fair that he should miss out coz i dont like them... so where do i find that happy medium??
Hopefully, this cat thing is just a passing phase... :fingerscrossed:

Hannah is the same with puppy dogs. I have always had a fear of dogs since as long as I can remember (even scared of little malteser size ones  :o ).
DH is trying to get me to get one but NOWAY - plus I would have to be the one looking after it and if I am scared of it how would it get fed and walked?
I had a dog when I was 11 and I hated being around her. Yet she was the most placid gorgoous dog.

my dd is 17mths and absolutely adores cats too! I hate them! my neighbour goes away a lot so we feed her cat and Bailey thinks that my neighbours name is pussy cat, so everytime bailey see's her she calls her pussy cat! its the funniest thing!
I would buy a cat if it stayed a kitten!

What sucks for you is cats know when you dont like them so they generally annoy you more! he he he. Im not sure if you can do anything that will be good for both you and him. If you got a cat maybe your DP would be happy to take responsibility for the cat? ie. clean feed etc?

Although, when i was 14 and lived with my dad his gf had a cat, and i swear the thing hated me, i was bound to my bedroom, coz it had free range of the house, and when i went to the toilet, i would RUN there and back to my room, coz it would scratch my ankles and bite!
I just wanted to say that I too hated cats...until I wound up owning one! He was a rescue where I used to work and took him home to find him a home....I told DF 'don't worry I hate cats, you know we won't keep him.' Two days later he was ours! We had to give him away to my BIL because he hated DD and was a wreck but maybe there's one cat out there for you that you will tolerate.
Rag Dolls are apparently very nice dogs...they're the dogs of the cat world apparently!

My Ex loved them, so i thought i would meet him half way and got him a kitten for his bday.... never again... i just can't handle it!!
We had the same thing with my DD....until I found the wonderful 'Fureal Cat's and newborn cubs." They meow, they play, you can even give them a toy bottle to suck on...They never scratch, bite or annoy the cr@p out of you or poo on your couch:laughing:
The only thing you have to do is change the batteries every so often!!
This was our happy medium :D as DH hates cats (with a passion!!) and I'm not to keen on them either. DD loves her 'cats' and DP and I are happy with them to!!

I was going to suggest that you hold off getting a pet until DS is old enough to really help look after the animal, and to maybe just go with a toy one for now.
Who knows, maybe you might warm up to the idea:yes:

I thought I was the only one with this problem...and most of the members here would know my much publicised hatred of cats!
Both of the boys are absolutely in love with them, Jesse even has this knack of being able to get all sorts of cats coming to him and following him in the street...he's the pied piper of cats.
He's begging me for one and after my goddaughter got a kitten he made me promise that if 'Tigerlily' has kittens that he could get one...I promised, but only because I know Tigerlily is going for a visit to the vet in the near future!
They've got a dog 'Vern' who they love to bits and play with all the time but I reminded Jesse who feeds Vern (me) and I wasn't going to have another pet for me to feed. He has since fed Vernie every night - that didn't work!
My view is that I'm going to eventually have teenage boys in this house...I don't need another creature that's only going to come home to eat and sleep!

LOL, i remember in high school, when i used to have sleep over's, my mates had cats, and i always told her i was allergic to them, coz i was that scared of them! LOL
If you really hate them then just don't get one. You can get him other pets and he can have a cat when he is all grown up and living out of home!
I remember begging my parents to let me have my grandfather's dog when he died (I was 16) cause my nana was re-homing him and they wouldn't let me because my sister was terrified of him (of all dogs, but we did have a pet dog cause I just really needed a dog in my life, still do) and I hated them so much at the time but I forgave them so your son will forgive you for not letting him have a cat!

Just wanted to say a few things, first of all I do have a cat, he is a Devon Rex, they are the cats that don't shead their hair so although my brother is allergic to cats he is fine with Mr Mario because they are basically hypoallergenic cats. He is so close to a dog it is unbelievable, he fetched, he comes when he is called (not just tapping on a food bowl) and he is just perfect. I didn't really like cats before I got Mr Mario, but I wanted a more affectionate pet and unfortunately I don't really have the room for a dog at the moment. My dad also Passionately HATES cats and he has fallen in love with Mr Mario.
Just another thing snakes make FANTASTIC pets, just like all other reptiles. Imagine feeding your pet once a week and cleaning the cage once a month PERFECT pet for a child in my opinion.
Anyway good luck, just remember YOU have to want the pet too, because odds are you will be the one looking after it for the rest of its life. Cats can live up to 20 years old!
