Hey ladies
I know you are all a wealth of info about MCN, can someone please convince me how good they are? My DH wants us to use them, but i am not sure. I have looked at the BBH website, and bambino mio (has anyone heard if these are any good or not?) Any info would be much appreciated :D
 They are fantastic.
Easy to use, easy to wash, easy to put on and must feel so much more comfortable for a baby to wear.
There is absolutely tonnes of MCN info on BH, do some searches and you'll find info on every nappy available just about.
I mostly use the BBH hemp and bamboos on my son. They are a one size fits all that need a PUL, fleece or wool cover. I use them at night and when we're out. I've never had a problem with leaking or not lasting the whole night.
The best thing to do is order a few different brands and types, all in ones, fitteds, most companies do trial packs, and see what works best for you before spending heaps on heaps of nappies.
Have I convinced you yet?

lol still thinking about it.
Keep the info coming
I was planning on getting trial packs of the nappies and having a look that way. What other brands are good? I would really rather get white only if i end up using them, do other brands make white ones?
Actually it isn't very common to get white nappies I don't think now I come to think of it.
I also use Very Baby nappies. They are size specific so won't see your baby through the whole way but they are very trim.

If you want white, and you want fantastic nappies :D Then I'd suggest Tots Bots Bamboozles. They're very trim (so fitting normal baby clothes over the top isn't a problem) extremely absorbent (so no problem with leaks) they are white (coming soon in colours apparently) and you can have them do up with velcro/aplix, or needing a snappi. Also, if you get size 2, these will do from about 4 months old (the front folds down for when they're still little bubbies, mine has been in size 2 properly since 6 months old).
What convinced me to use cloth is the cost. Go to the supermarket, choose which brand of sposies you would most likely use, write down the cost, work out how much per nappy that turns out to be (usually around 30c per nappy) and multiply that by 7 per day, so 49 per week, so 2555 per year, multiply that by 2.5 yrs, so that's around 6388.
6388 x 30c = $1916.40 per child AT LEAST. I think 30c per nappy is for the cheapo brands, so maybe double that for Huggies. Triple it for Bambino Mio.
I have spent way more than I need to on cloth nappies. I had a great stash of little ones when he was a newborn, and have tried a few different types before now deciding on bamboo fitteds with wool covers, plus pockets and AIO's for going out. And all up I've spent less than $1000. Because I've chosen good quality brands, if I care for these nappies well, they can be used for the next baby too (if I ever have one). I just see the cost as the deciding factor. I started building my stash when I was 3 months pregnant.
Also, sposies stink. Truly. I've just had a few days of using sposies because I got overwhelmed with housework and decided to give myself a couple days to get all the washing up to date. And the STENCH of a wet sposie, peee-ew!!!! It's horrible!! I mean, when it's still on his butt!!!! :barf:
Baby Beehinds make "natural" (cream) coloured bamboos and hemps, but that's as close to white I've seen!
After using MCN, I'll never go back to sposies! It really is one less thing about parenthood to feel guilty about. Our babies should tred lightly on this earth and until my DD can make her own decisions about things, it's my responsibility to make a valuable contribution on her behalf to preserving her world. A lot of people will throw half truths and myths abuot cloth nappies at you, but the reality is if all the generations that came before us used disposables, what sort of state would the world be in now? I don't use MCN purely out of guilt for the environment, I use them because for us they ARE far superior to all the disposable nappies out there and it truly is my responsibility to do what is right by my bubs butt AND also the environment.
And if everything you read on this forum doesn't convince you, then maybe this will...

I have only been using cloth on DD for a month or so - and still not everyday as i am trialling some (BBH & GK's) to test out what is best for us. Only using disposables every other day and overnight has ALREADY made a difference to what we spend at the supermarket. I have lay-buyed some nappies, so it doesn't even feel like a huge initial outlay either. I got mostly cream coloured BBB and mum is knitting me some wool covers. From what everyone says they are the best way to go, and the cheapest if you can knit yourself (or have someone who can)
The days she is in disposables, she often gets a bit of red nappy rash - NEVER so far in the MCN. I also feel like i am 'doing my part' a little more on the environment side - makes me feel good.
DH says they are so easy to use (pretty good praise from a man :D ) and he has been pretty impressed with them so far.
Ummmm...can't think of much else atm - but if your DH is keen - definately get a trial from GK & BBH to test the waters. They are MUCH easier than i thought they would be, much trimmer and ooh so cute!! I understand now why people buy so many 'show-off' nappies/covers!
I used disposables for my first two children - thinking that I wouldn't be able to cope with the washing, scraping poo, etc on the cloth and that the environmental cost was about the same once you factored in water, detergent, etc.
Well - I am now using cloth fulltime on DS and part time on DD2 because after four years of filling rubbish bins with nappies each week I just can't do it anymore. So we are saving money, we are improving our environment, and they look bloody cute!!
The main benefit for us no smelly nappies filling our bins! Really it is a big difference.
The only white mcn nappies we have are Tot Bots original. We have quite few natural ones though like the bamboozles and Baby Beehind bamboo and Baby Eco. Natural colours are best as they are more natural! (in colour, also in mterials, so best for babies skin)

Ericas Nappies have a bamboo one that is white. I *think* I saw them on The Weewuns recently. They need a cover though as they're fitted.

Just a suggestion that might help. There are some sellers who have consultants that will come to you and talk to you about their products and the 'how to' of cloth nappying. There shouldnt be any obligation to buy and they should be happy to talk to you about cloth nappying in general, so help you understand the types available and the pros and cons of the different styles (well I am happy to do that anyway). You may have already seen that Baby BeeHinds does this since you have been to their website. There are also other sellers who do this as well (Best for Baby, Natures Cradle, Fuzzi Bunz, Nurtiure Nappies are the ones that come to mind) .
Each state also has an advocacy kit that people are welcome to take a look at and the holders of the kits are happy to talk you through it as well (I am the kit holder for Perth). You can find contact details here http://modernclothnappies.org/
The other option is to go to a nappycino which is basically a meet up with other cloth users, generally at a park or somewhere kid friendly. Its a good opportunity to look at other peoples nappies and chat to clothies about what works for them. Nappycinos are usually organised through Nappycino or Oz Cloth but you could use the contact link above to enquire about being informed of the next one near you.
Being able to see them IRL and talk to people who use them may help you and your DH to make the descion of what you would like to try and allay any concerns that you have as to whether its right for you.

I used Baby Beehinds from about a week old. When he still had meconium, I used sposies (I put a bamboo beehind on him and he meconium'd all over it, and I cried as I was rinsing it :p)
You can tuck in the frills around the legs, and a good fitting cover means that the nappy can be slightly too big, and it won't be an issue because the cover holds it all in. Baby beehinds have a great small sized PUL cover. It was too small for DS by 4 months old.
The thing is, if you have a big-ish baby then that will make all the difference. Mine was 9lbs 2oz, not that big really, but if he'd been 6lbs then he would have been really tiny and probably wouldn't have fitted into BBH for a while.

There's always prefolds and terries. I started with terries for the first little bit because you're constantly changing them anyway!

Cherubs Kiss Raphael are meant to be great for newborns. Im hopping to nab some of these for the next little treasure.... Then we will move onto the BBH and all the rest! Cherubs kiss have a waiting list and they do custom orders - you could probably get them made in white? I dont know.... :-D Im still waiting!
The other thing is even if your nappies aren't white there are plenty of PUL white covers to use over the top of fitteds anyway.
