Welcome little xavier.
Ashton is sleeping so well at night but he has been crying all day today and feed every 3hrs. I think because it's so hot.
i hate hot days like these.
thanks acacia. my dh is still off work and doesn't go back for another 3 weeks so he's a major help. i'm getting sleep during the day every day, sometimes as much as 4 hours. dh usually stays up til midnight most nights and keeps josh in the lounge with him, so i can get a bit of sleep before the 'night' begins. dh is completely exhausted though and we need to do a bit of role reversal for a day or so cause he's been doing too much and not sleeping at all during the day. he tried today whilst josh and i went out for a bit (ok, so i took josh for a drive to try and put him to sleep - it worked!), but the phone rang and he spent the time on the phone instead of resting!

Welcome Xavier, wonderful to have another new baby.
We're coping really well at the moment. Ariane has some fussy time each night but the rest of the time she is pretty settled, she is putting herself to sleep most of the time and our biggest battle is stopping my 7 year old from picking her up as soon as she makes a squeak, trying to convince him that a lot of the time she will go back to sleep on her own is tricky as he's so besotted by her
We've also had some great nights with her only waking once or twice between 10pm and 6 or am. I'm still so surprised to have a baby like this as my first two children were such high demands babies.

Yay! Congratulations Aries Moon :) It's great that we've all "passed over to the other side" now! (I think)
Caitlin's cold has cleared up - we found boiling water with some eucalyptus drops BRILLIANT - better than Fess or any of that. She fed really well when we got that going! Unforunately, I've got the cold now so I spent the day in bed yesterday and DH took her out on their first solo outing. It was hard not to ring every 5 minutes. I gave him a bottle of EBM and he went to the parenting room at the shops to feed her and got evils and dirties from the women breastfeeding in there. What do you guys think about men feeding in there? Is that the purpose? Why is it called a parenting room.. I don't know. I felt terrible for him because he was embarrassed and went to a cafe but he coulnd't fit the pram in and ended up going to my parents to feed her! (She was really upset and hungry by this time :( ) Now he knows what it's like for me anyway!
thansk for yoru wishes everyone!! The lady at the chemist said they call it the "8 week syndrome" where the Mum and Bub get a cold.
Well, I might go get some sleep while I can! Last night was awful! Managed to sleep from 1:30-4:00am and then 7:30 til 10am tho (Thanks DH) which is better than some of the rest of you! :(
Hi:wave:
Mim1 + Cordelia (love the new avatar btw!! so cute!!) v v sorry about yr sleeps. Very glad you still get on here :yelclap:
This is when I feel guilty.. Hunter is now becoming a lovely lovely sleeps well, settles well baby. I will list all that now works..as after the 6-7hr screaming straight and me being v v frazzled it is now all wonderful. (well for today.. and last 2 days!)
I swaddle for his sleeps at the first sign of yawns.
I hold him on his side..hmm horizontally, holding the naughty hands in and the naughty little kicky legs.. (yes Tommy Turtle childcare like WA girls!!)
Swaying, walking, sometimes fast walking does it too..
Oh and play sleepy music and go 'sh sh'..
It may be because he now sleeps consistently during the day that it is all okay???? who knows. He settles in 10-30mins. Settles himself after 3/4am feed.
Oh we also went to the Chiropractor..3 days ago and little H was BLISSED OUT! Top spinal adjustments.. I was sceptical, but maybe it is all down to that???
Last week it was HOURS of settling and sad me and a lot of moving him from one spot to another, walking, swiss ball...poor thing getting jostled around.
At the same time this current 'pattern' may all go to $hit tomorrow :) I nicked yr word Hels!
Mim1 I hope some of the visitors (and food bringers) came, espec after preparing yourself for them!!
First night DP is not here for a few nights. Stopped calling him 'almost-' now. We're getting on better than for months and months. Lovely time!!:smiliedance: Night girls, happy sleeps!

Hi all,
Well its great to be here!! Have been attempting to read this whole thread from the start but just ran out of time!!! I recognised quite a few names from the Due in Jan thread though.
My bub was born on the 6th Jan, a little man, 'Jett Bailey James' (some of you may remember my name dilema!! LOL) 7p 14oz
He is 5 weeks now. Its great to be reading everyones different routines/sleeping patterns/feeding etc.
I too am currently using breast shields, i have the medela ones. Bub is not keen on feeding without them though!
No one had told me about the "permafeeding!" of a newborn (didnt b/f first bub) so i thought i just didnt have enough supply and started to put bub on formula.
After then reading up on the b/f thread and realising it was completly normal, im now trying to put bub back on the boob. Trying to feed and express to increase my supply. Dont think hes too impressed atm, he was really enjoying not have to work to hard at the bottle!!
He feeds 3 hourly during the day, i bath him every nite at 6ish, then he is down by 7 or 8 pm. He starting to do a 5 hour and a 4 hour stint during the nite, but sometimes doesnt want to go back down!! THinks its wake time!!
Im really adamant about working on the sleeping thing, my first was a NON sleeper!!!!
ANyway sorry for the long post....
Better get some housework done while bub is asleep!!!
Talk soon!!
Congratulations Aries Moon on baby Xavier! What a big healthy size bubs he is!! :yelclap:
And congrats finalcountdown on baby Jett! Glad you could come and join us again.
It's great reading everyones routines and what works for them. The only real bit of a routine that K is sticking to is having a big long sleep from about 9.30am to 12-1pm each day. After that he's a bit all over the place....and so am I
Last night he went to sleep at 5.30pm, woke at 11pm fed till 12am then was quite unsettled for the rest of the night. I was up and down with him till 5am when DH took him for a walk so i slept  till 7.30am.
I get a bit out of whack when he's unsettled after i feed him. I tend to put him back on the boob for little top ups if he's unsettled and sometimes by the time he's been on and off the boob for a few hours it's time for a proper feed, then i think "he can't be hungary -he's just drained both boobs!" I will have to stop his snacking and try other settling methods i think. Anyone else have this dilema?? Plus my nipples are still killing me. I think K's lil tongue is unable to latch on properly even though he's had his tongue tie snipped.
Sorry the long post....:p

Hi Girls
Really struggling with my left nipple. Have always struggled to get Isabella to attach properly on teh left & after using nipple cream in the hospital, the nipple went so soft she took a big chunk of of one of the crevices on the left side of my nipple  as I was still not attached properly & she must have been knawing at it OUCH. It now kills as you can imagine & I dread going to that side every time as I think she just keeps doing more damage.
Expressed out of that breast this morning to try & give the nipple time to heal & attempted to give her the bottle but she struggled to take & milk was sloshing out her mouth onto her chest!! Anyone had the same issue & do they get used to it? Fear I'll just have to put her on the boob vs expressing & just feeding off the right as don't want to stuff up the milk supply. It's so frustrating as you start to lose track of how much she's having on either side as in the last 24 hours I've given her more from the right.
I see some of you use niipple sheilds - do they help the skin to heal? Or should I just persist??
Help! Sleep deprivation makes everything so much worse too.....

Hi,
Im on a nipple shield. I didnt have problems with cracked nipples, just ones that wont come out, but when i got severe mastitis my nipple was still in one piece and the doctor thought that was due to the nipple shield, so i reakon its definately worth a go. I hope things get easier for you soon.:hugs:

My poor little man has a cold now. he woke up this morning and his eye was all gunky like snot so i guess he has conjunctivitus again. He was really unsettled all day yesterday but slept well last night. He is unsettled again today, I think its his blocked nose. I use the little fess nose drops which help a little. My second boy woke this morning with a croupy cough and i have the sniffles so i think im getting something.
Im finding im knackered in the evening but i go to bed and i just cant sleep. i dont know why but it doesnt help:mad:

I have just been completely exhausted these last few days and really in need of a boost. I had a quick look on the net to see what the average weight gain is for a newborn to see how Clea was doing... she was born 3090gms, she is 6 weeks old BF on demand and weighs.... 5330gms. yep thats an average of 370gms (give or take) weight gain a week since birth! She loves booby and I am sure I can see her grow everyday. The nurse said it was great, she is healthy and well hydrated and happy. I feel so proud of her. No wonder she is growing out of all her clothes:laughing:
Luvmytum persist with the BF, try the nipple sheild and go to the nearest BF support clinic. Clea and I dont have problems BF but it is still hard work so I still try to surround myself with a good support network. Many BF babies cant get a bottle right, check out the BF support threads.
Hi ladies. Have just dropped my parents off at the airport. They are living/working in japan and have gone home today. I was very sad. Mum had been here since a few days before Kelsey was born to help out and look after DS while I was in hospital and my dad has been here for the last 10 days. So it was a bit of a sad morning with lots of tears (mostly from mum and I). They are coming back to visit again in June which will be nice.
I totally agree with all of you ladies praising your DP's or DH's. Mine has been fabulous. he does most of the nappies and bathtime duties. He does burping and settling and has been giving me a bit of a sleep in most mornings and has been getting up early with DS. I have really enjoyed having him at home for a few weeks and will miss him when he goes back to work.
Jennasmum - I have also been using topping up and snacking on the boob as a way of settling Kelsey and to be honest I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I don't give Kelsey a dummy and she has to use me (so to speak) to satisfy her need to suck. I mean some babies get a dummy, others use the breast.
Luvmytum - sorry to hear you have sore nipples. Is this your first bub? Maybe you could try feeding in a different position to take the pressure off of the sore part of your nipple? Bub would be latching on a different part that might not hurt so much. I find feeding laying down very relaxing and often have a snooze while Kelsey snacks.
Hels, you were talking about needing to do housework. I really need to give my place a good clean too. BUT at the same time I think to myself - oh well the ironing will need to be done again in a few days time. So I just put it out of sight. I figure the time while our babies are small is so short and precious and i want to enjoy it. However, I understand that you want your place looking nice for your parents to visit and I would feel the same way if guests were coming. My MIL came for a few days after Kelsey was born but didn't once lift a finger to help or offer to cook or even to hang out the washing. It really annoyed me!!!
Speaking of washing - I have a load of nappies to hang out while bub is sleeping. Take care.
HI-ya girlies,
Congrats to our newest mummies.
Luvmytum...:hugs: know exactly how you feel with extreemly sore nipples. I tired different feeding positions for TJ, nipple shields and expressing, but in the end it was all to tiring when on my own. Hope you can find a happy meduim.
Cordelia...Did anyone say anything to your DH while he was in the babies room, or was it just looks and actions? If I were him, I'd have just stayed and fed. Tell him to be tough next time! It's not as though he was in there without a baby.
Having a few unsettled days here. TJ is having half feeds then falling asleep. Have tried everything, but sometimes she just won't wake up to finish a feed, so she sleeps for an hour then wants more to eat. Am trying to make her wait longer before feeding again after one of her half feeds. Not much sleep at all last night, will hopefully catch up tomorrow when DD1 is at daycare:sleeping: . DH flies out again tomorrow, so hopefully she will settle down and start feeding properly again.

OMG, today has got to be the best day yet... I HAVE DISCOVERED EXPRESSING!! :smiliedance:
Here's the deal... I have got a manual pump which I tried after coming out of hospital and it hurt me alot. So I wasn't game to try it again (it did say to wait for 2 weeks though). Anyway, today we were supposed to be going out but slept in again  . I knew it would take 1 1/2 to 2 hours to feed bubs and change him etc. So instead I expressed from both boobs and got 120 mls of milk. Fed Reece and had him changed and ready to go out within 45 mins :smiliedance:
So, one thing I have bought today is an electric breast pump. I am going to express all of my feeds during the night and occasionally during the day when I need more time. I also have a sore right nipple and the expressing doesn't hurt it as much as bub's mouth does so it will help that to heal too.
I feel so much happier now as I was stressing about how long it was taking to feed bubs all the time, as I was only getting a couple of hours between feeds by the time it was over. Also, this way DH and my parents will be able to take turns feeding too.
I'll catch up on all posts later as it's time to get dinner ready (first time I have been able to prepare a meal too  )

And I thought Captain Cook had made the greatest discovery!
Hope it works better for you now :) I've been doing it for a few weeks now too - marvellous! It means you can have like a 6 hour break now and then. I think that I did a bit much over the w/e tho as Caitlin had trouble yesterday back on the breast - (or the @#(*& nipple shield rather). I think she wasn't used to having to work for her dinner!
Sorry elshay - I don't know about Teegan.
mousebrown: I don't think anyone said anything to DH in the parenting room. I think he was a bit intimidated really... not being used to the whole baby thing.
Flicka - I hope you've cheered up! It must be hard having family living overseas :/ It's nice that they can come back in a few months!
sugar - I hope you're bothe feeling better soon :/
My in-laws are coming next week from Adelaide. DH has told them that they can't stay with us; they will have to help out around the house; they're not allowed to wake her up... he's got really tough with them!! I almost think that it's too tough and that they probably think it's me behidn it! But I honestly wouldn't midn them staying here. Altho I really don't get along with them - they are my child's grandparents for goodness sake!! I know i'll probably thank him for it when they get here and I remember how frustrated and annoyed I get.
Our 6 week (well 7.5 week) check was today. It was rather uneventful except that Caitlin's hip is loose so I have to go back in 2 weeks. Does anyone's baby have to wear a brace thing for their hips??

Hi!!
Don't you just love that 'naughty' furtive look searching for nipple, if they 'fall off'!! Like H just did.
Mim1 and JennasMum and all really, hope all the sleep dep has days or moments of lifting.
You know how we all look for weight gain / 90th percentile.. all that proudness of our bub stuff, well my beautiful boy is exactly the same weight as last week!!! oops. Feeding well though, so not worried.
I am so much happier than a week ago and things are v happy with DP!! All the best to Hels and Cordelia for parents and ILs. Precious time for them too.:smiliedance: :smiliedance:
ValentinesDay tomorrow though a hallmark anniversary..in case anyone forgot (like I did). Cos its supposed to be the DP/DHs who forget, not us!!
Final Countdown lovely to see you here congrats on Jett! Great name!
Karrina - hope you + Billy are all good, long time no hear?
Sugar sorry to hear about eye/sniffles. Our child health nurse (lovely lady) is such a 'breastmilk on everything' advocate she'd have you tracking down one of us lactating mothers!!
Oh Hels loved your DISCOVERY also!! HE HE. I have my own expressing story!! A week ago I tried expressing, of course it was all a mad rush, dediding just after first morning feed, getting pump out of box, new...washing it to get rid of new plastic smell...(tommee Tipee freedom) of course no time to read the instructions so pressed the trigger HARD as one does with pump action kinda devices!!!!!!!! Tried to relax..Well I did realise I must be doing something wrong, so stopped after a few minutes and bruising each nipple rather well!! Instructions say you don't have to press the trigger hard at all!!!!!!!!! Will try some properly. Great though Hels about the speed!
happy tuesday girls!!
Morning girlies,
Had a better night last night. Got in two 3hour sleeps....pretty amazing, but not quiet as good as your discovery Hels. Have started settling TJ on her tummy during the day and after the last night/morning feed. She seems to go down better and sleeps for longer, shich is also helping the snacking feeds she had started to do.
DH flew out this morning. Might be able to get back into some routine again for a couple of weeks. Why are men so frustrating? Last night he went from "I'll help you with TJ" to "I never get to do anything I like to do" in a matter of minutes. Anyone would think he had AF visiting. Is anyone else having adjustment problems with their DH/DP? I know we went through it when DD1 was born and had been expecting it again this baby. I think DD1 is adjusting to TJ better than DH:rolleyes: .
Cordelia... Good luck with the inlaws. I think your DH has done the right thing by telling them they can't stay with you, especially if they frustrate you normally. Haven't had experience with the hip brace personally, but had a friend who's bub had a hip problem. Though they didn't discover it until she was almost 12 months old. It then meant an operation and she had to wear the brace for months. So it's a good thing they have noticed Caitins hip now and are monitoring it.
Sugar...hope Ashtons eyes are clearing up. There's noting worse than conjunctivitis, expecially when you've got other kids who may catch it.
For those using formula, which brand are you using? I started with S-26 but then changed to Karicare Gold as it is supposed to be better for bub.
Have a good day!

Hi everyone
Mousebrown - I am just using Karicare. I found it best with my other 2DD's so i thought i would just stick with that instead of the S26. DD1 hated it lol.
Very tired today. Got to bed at 11pm last night and Sierra woke up at 12.30 for a feed. Then again at 3.30 and she was a little unsettled after that feed.
DH's alarm went off at 6.30am and we didnt get up til 7.05... oops. I had to take him to work so we were a bit late lol. It was hard to get all the kids ready and fed when we get up on time but it was a rush today. I tried to convince DH to take the day off but no like thats gonna happen.
First day of DD1 and DD2 both at kinder at the same time and i can say that it is very quiet. Sierra is asleep and very settled so i dont really know what to do with myself. DD1's kinder is only 2hrs today but she starts 5 hrs next Tuesday so i'll be really bored then lol. Its great to have some quiet time or a spare few hours to do things i ahve to do, like housework, shopping or sleeping which i'm definately going to do once she starts her full 5hr sessions.
Should go and get some things doen while i can. Take care everyone. Hope all are well.

Im using s26 AR.
Well ash is due for his needles but i dont know if they will give it to him having a cold and all. Sheldon my 2yrold has been screaming in pain all morning. I have no idea wether he has a sore throat or sore teeth, Phoned the dentist and they said a dr can tell and if its the teeth can prescribe anti biotics and then they will check him out etc in hospital as 2yrolds are too young in the chair.

Well the expressing is still going well  , I am able to get 120 mls out each time now. Reece has been having anywhere from 80 to 120 mls each feed. Does anyone know if this is a good amount? On the formula tins it says 60 ml each feed for a 2 week old, but I figured formula would be less because it is a more richer mixture than breast milk.
I have started to store the extra milk in the fridge and freezer for when we go out. My breast pump is like my new toy so I had better be careful that I don't get over-supply!
I was still planning to feed him on the boob at least once a day. But does anyone know if it is ok to just exclusively express with no actual boob contact? I know that if I ask the health nurse about this she will probably tell me it's not a good idea. But I think that whatever works well for both mum and bubs is always best.
Any thoughts on this would be appreciated though.
Charis - Ouch about the pump speed and bruised nipples. With my pump (Avent ISIS) I can manually set the speed and intensity, then I switch it over to electric and it continues to go at the same speed.
Mouse - My DH has been great with bubs most of the time, but I had a few issues in the first week trying to get him off the computer when I need a hand
DH really likes being able to give bubs a bottle though.
Have a great day everyone :D

Hi all, been almost a week again since my last post. All is giong quite well. We went away again for 4 days, flying up to Hervey Bay to stay with my Brother. Bridget again travelled really well and was really good the whole time we were away.
My SIL said yesterday that Bridget is really well travelled for a 4 week old and I said I know but it seems so easy to travel with her now, give her another month or 2 til she really starts waking up and she will be a nightmare!!!
Luvmytum- I seriously cringed when I read about your sore nipples, you poor thing it sounds so painful. All I could suggest is feeding in different positions and maybe trying the Avent nipple cream- Its like heaven- I Highly recommend it.
Hels- Sounds like the expressing thing works well for you and you do have the option of when to B/F and express depending on what you are doing for the day- just be careful not to over express otherwise you may start producing too much milk and become a dairy farm lol!!!
Congratulations to Tbear and Ariesmoon on the last arrivals for January (and a bit of Feb). Thats us now all done, time for real mummy business!
Better go so much to do before Bridget is up for her next feed which has been 4 hourly during the day and 5-7 hourly at night depending on the night of course!
Hi ladies.
Have had a lovely day today. DS is at daycare (to give both me and him a break from each other) and I have been kicking back and relaxing watching DVD's and having coffee with DH at the shops. Kelsey has been pretty good. I am sleeping her on her belly during the day and for her first night sleep before wrapping her and sleeping her on her back for the rest of the night. It seems to be working well and I am trying hard to put her down when she is sleepy (but not asleep) to let her "self settle" but there is nothing more gorgeous that a sleeping baby in your arms and watching their facial expressions while they are asleep (I am sure she is dreaming of booby).
Mousebrown - I understand what you are saying about your DH. Although they love the baby, I think they feel a little bit jealous as your attention is now on someone else and there is less attention for them!!! It must be hard with your DH home for a while then away working. Just when you get a good routine going, he will come home and mess it up a bit!!! (Even though I am sure you are glad to see him).
Hels - About expressing your milk - I agree that you just need to do what feels right for you and what works. It must be nice for your DH to share the feeding by giving Reece a bottle and it gives you a break too.
Glad Charis reminded us about valentines day, although I think DH and I will be having a "romantic" takeaway dinner (ha ha). Take care...

well just got back from the drs. ashton had his needles and the dr checked out sheldon. he has been screaming all morning because he has a really bad ear infection. he is on anti biotics now and has gone to sleep. poor little man
Sugar n spice - Poor Sheldon. Glad he is on antibiotics and can finally get some sleep (and hopefully you can put your feet up for 5 mins). Hope Ashton also went ok with his needles.
Not a great night last night, Josh decided he wanted 8 feeds yesterday, instead of his normal 6 so that meant a long day, the he woke after only 2 hours of sleep. He fed again and then wouldn't settle - it was after 4am by this stage. dh took over and tried to settle him til 7am when he was clearly hungry again. oh well. we've slept some of the time during the day today to catch up.
josh used s26 formula in hospital and liked it.
hels ... when josh was in hospital i had to express, exclusively initially, then for 50% of the feeds. i found it harder to drain my breasts completely when expressing and found that getting him to feed worked better. But, if that's not an issue for you, go for it! The amount of milk they need is based on weight, not age. From memory Josh needed about 100ml every 4 hours when he was 4kg. I say, give whatever Reece wants!
Mim - Sorry to hear you had a tough night. Maybe Josh is going through a growth spurt and that is the reason for the extra feeds and being a bit restless. Hope you have a better night tonight.:hugs:
Hello all you lovely mummies,
Well, I've finally found a mament to drop in and say hello and to update my avatar and signature and write up a birth announcement in the Due in Jan section.
Here it is - since I dont expect anyone will actually read it in there as we have all had our babies now!!!
Baby's Name:Wilfred Matthew
DOB: 6-2-2007
EDD: 31-1-2007
Time: 6:59pm
Weight: 3.660kg (8lb1oz)
Length: 49cm
Head Circumference: 36cm
Birth Details: My waters broke naturally, but labour didn't start within a few hours so was induced with syntocin because there was a trace of meconium in the water. Established labour took a total of about 5 hours, with a 45 minute 2nd stage. No drugs, just a little gas. I'll try to write up the birth story soon!
I can't believe my little man is already a week old - the first week of parenthood has certainly gone much faster than the last few weeks of pregnancy did. We’re going really well – young Wilf is feeding and sleeping well (for a baby) – though he has such a strong suck that I have ended up with rather damaged (.) (.) – but other than that I’m doing pretty well. I’m probably only getting a total of about 6 hours sleep a night – in 3 blocks of 2 hours – but I seem to be functioning.
Sorry, I haven't had time to catch up on all the posts but I will try to get back later to catch up and do some personals.
Happy mummy baby daddy sleep vibes to all!:wizard:

Hello Ladies,
Firstly would like to welcome to the world our newest arrivals Isobella, Xavier, Wilfred and Jett.
Jennasmum - Hows your little man going after getting his tongue snipped, is he latching on any better?
Today I took Talon to the clinic for his weekly check up and weigh in. Currently Talon weighs 10pd 5oz. He's been putting on just over 520g a week. Master T has been sleeping good. I've been putting him on his tummy during the day and after his 4am feed. I've been giving my little man breast milk and formula as I don't have enough milk supply.
The last 2 weeks has been a nightmare feeding Talon. He has been refusing the breast everytime i put him on. Have taken him to a lactation clinic . I've tryed everything and nothing seems to work. The lady at the lactation clinic said he just loves being bottle fed. So bottle it is.
Mousebrown - I'm using Karicare AR as I found Talon used to bring up the Karicare Infant formula and also he has abit of reflux.
Anyway better go and start dinner. Have a good night ladies

Congrats on all the new bubs:smiliedance:
We're doing well, I'm starting to get a little frustrated though. During the day Cooper wont sleep unless I'm holding him, as soon as I put him down he wakes up again and it doesn't work if I try putting him down awake. I don't know what to do but it's sooooo frustrating:banghead:
As I speak I'm holding him because he wont go to sleep!!! Oh well

jdore clea is the same, i bought a moby wrap and she sleeps in that, at least it gives my arms a break.
hels i think expressing ft is fine but i think you increase your risk of mastitis or blocked ducts. might wat to check this with a lactation consutant.
clea slept 4.5hours and then 3 hours last night with 1 hour awake in between. so i had the longest sleep i have had since she was born:smiliedance:
she is also feeding less, well less snacks on each boob and more long feeds... yay

good morning ladies...
it has taken me so long to catch up on the post for the week.
Tayla has been so unsettled, hence not being on lately... she had/has colic really bad.. so the last week we have been sleep deprived. but good news was my sister go me onto donnalix (Sp) and we tried that last night and she was great - back to the quiet little baby i know. :)
i am a little worried though reading that some of you are expressing 100mls or more. I express a bottle for tayla for the dinner feed (so dh can feed her while i get dinner ready for the older boys ) and i can only express about 60mls for her.... until now i wasn't worried as she would struggle to down the bottle.. i know they can get better supply out of the breast than what we can - but surely she can't be getting double that????? her weight gain has been a little slower - but i put that down to both of us being on antibiotics coz of infections after birth!!!
as i said - i wasn't worried coz she settles really well during the day - she sleeps 4 hours between feeds and is on the breast for about 20-30 mins each feed. how is everyone elses bubs?
oh! i too have found that she settles better during the day on her belly - she will sleep solid and not startle her self with her arms...
will try to post again later - cheers
leisa
Congrats on all the new bubs:smiliedance:

Hey J'dore,
I have the same problem with Thomas from about 6 am onwards. I have found a baby sling to be a life saver. It means you cant nap much during the day but you can get stuff done.
Well im actually starting to enjoy motherhood more now! Tom is 3 weeks tomorrow and is certainly being more pleasant to be around! Not so much whinging!!!! He recognises when i come into the room, and is doing a block of 5 hours evefy night so i feel more human! He has modivated me to get back into campaign work which is a good thing. We went out to a friends house for dinner and that was good! I think feeling more cinfident with him has made a huge difference to my emotional state!
Sugar i hope your little one feels better on the antibiotics. Ear infections are just aweful.

had a shocking night when Geoffrey woke up at 4am - screaming and wouldn't settle for milk, changed his nappy, DH comforted him, nothing worked, was up till 5.30am and finally then put him to bed, whilst still awake and crying a bit, eventually he went to sleep, woke up at 9.20 and had a feed till 10am and back to sleep for now...
ohhh its so frustrating when you don't know what is wrong, its like he was in pain whilst feeding....
anyway - Happy Valentines Day to all, hope that you have a lovely day!!
Hi:wave:
Oh jacstar that sounds very hard!! Yes and did you get to the extreme of asking 'whats wrong' with the anguish that any amount of crying brings!!? Big hugs to you! Gosh. Maybe he had a bad dream!? Still bit early I guess, even for Geoffrey the oldest + wisest of all the bubs!? Sounds like whatever it is, has gone and all the best for a restful day and a normal night.
DFB great about the longer sleep block!!
Yes I'd go a baby sling or a baby bjorn for the daytime 2 hands!! Luckily washing dishes is hard though :D Everything else is good.
I actually use a BF pillow (really ugly!) Shaped like a horseshoe. This way I can have one hand free for phone/keyboard/mouse at least. Yes am BF quite a bit in front of here!! He then sometimes (like now) falls asleep there and I work or bubhub over the top. Negligent mother :smiliedance: He got used to the keyboard sound inutero!
H feeds about 40-50mins! But 5-6 times a day. The single night feed is shorter.
(this week) He takes between 10-120mins to settle sometimes. (Which is wrapped at the first yawn and then gentle rocking, sometimes outside) He travels a bit by car, so settles during the day there, usually. And he self settles after the night feed. But often just wants to be up and held from 7/8pm till 11/12pm. Difficult for dinner. But last night had him on his change table (reasonably secured!) and I was nearby and he was happy lying kicking his little gorgeous legs..
I've been using a small heater when he has nappy changes and he is much much happier about them!! YES it is summer!! But cooler in Perth this week.
us us us.. Leisa what is the donnalix? For you or bub? Great though about the affect!!
Happy V day to all!! Hmm I'm trying to finish our business tax for Centerlink deadline..today. I went in when pregnant (with I thought, all my paperwork) and they said come back when you've had the baby... no I say, so much easier to fill in forms now..... hmm!! All the best to any other form fillers !!
Gosh they make gorgeous little noises, don't they!!

J'dore - ashton is like that but he is sleeping really well now. His feeds having increased to about 140 - 150 mls each feed and he feeds in about 15mins now. Atm a little longer since he has a cold and blocked nose.

charis - donnalix is for bubs. i was using infacol before the feed and infants friend after the feed and she was going really great - she was so settled but as about 5 days ago she started really bad with colic - she would be really bad from about 6-7pm and wouldn't stop crying until about 11pm - she was crying so much and we couldn't settle her - tried the hot baths - massages and everything we could think of but nothing was working - my sister has just had twins and one of hers was the same - her peadiatrician told her about donnalix and she tried it worked wonders on her little one. So i thought i would try it and see if it could settle Tayla and it did :fingerscrossed: it keeps working .
But it is really potent - you can't use infacol or infants freind at the same time and you can only give it to them for on or two feeds (the really bad feeds/ unsettled periods) and then you can only give it to them for about 3-4 days. Apparently, it is an antispaspadic (sp) and settles the colic in babies with belly aches but you have to be really careful with the dosing as you only need about 0.3 of a ml.
she was so bad with the crying and she is just getting over a belly button infection i didn't want her to get a hernia in it ... i was really desperate and sceptical but i will give it another go tonight and see if we can settle her again.
hello mummies
Firstly, welcome to the new bubs Jett, Isabella, Xavier and Wilfred and their mums.
I haven't posted for ages, had a bit of a rollercoaster since we were visited by the 'sleep angel' on Friday. She really is an angel though and is sorting out our non day sleeps. J'dore & dragonflyblu I understand where you're coming from. Hamish was hardly sleeping during the day - maybe a couple of naps if I put him in the baby bjorn or we went out in the car or pram but he woke as soon as the movement stopped. He was basically very overtired and really wired. She has us on a tight sleep/ eat/ play schedule (note, not eat/ sleep) on about 2 hour rotations. Sometimes its taking me an hour to get him to sleep though and its been incredibly frustrating but he has been so much happier when he has slept. Nights are ok and he is going straight back to sleep whereas before was staying awake for up to an hour after a feed.
On top of this, I read 'The Happiest Baby on the Block' - the author talks about the fourth trimester and is the advocate for the '5 S's' that Charis talked about a while ago. Anyway, I have now discovered swaddling, even though I thought Hamish hated it, its fantastic to calm him and stop his jerky arms and legs waking himself up again. And I have discovered that rocking needs to be pretty rough - like the Tibetans who wrapped up their babies and tied them to the donkey!
Also, now he is feeding 3 hourly instead of 2 hourly my milk supply seems to be heaps better and maybe wasn't as much of a problem as I thought. I've been expressing after each feed but usually only get from 10 - 40ml but it adds up over the day and can be used for a top up when I need it.
well, hopefully that wasn't too much of a ramble but I wanted to try and impart some of this new found knowledge that will (hopefully) change our lives for the better! Sleep  says I can aim to be able to put him in his cot and for him to go straight to sleep on his own!!! Don't like to get my hopes up but that would be amazing. She sees lots of bubs at 6 - 9 months with sleep probs and says its much easier to 'train' them when they're younger.
finally, Charis you must have a great office chair, I can't feed and type for hte life of me. Mind you, we have a lap top on the dining table with a bench seat which gives me a neck ache even without bubs in front. I was managing to read a bit but he only feeds for 10-15 mins each side usually so there's not much time, especially if he's in a squirmy mood.
Well, best not hog the thread any more and go and wake the baby for his next feed.
happy Valentine day today

WOw this thread moves fast!! How do you all find the time!! LOL
Strawberry and freddie, thanks for the welcomes!!!!
hels- i too am expressing alot atm, a couple of weeks ago i was getting 220ml quite easily but now it seems to have slowed a bit and i get about 140 (that is from together). I am breastfeeding, expressing and bottle sometimes and the odd formula when im not prepared !!
So far it all seems to be working!!
I have the flu atm and feel awful!! Thank god Jett is slowly strecthing his night time feeds out. Atm he is 5 weeks and is doing a 5 hour block, then a 3 or 4 during the night...which is great. Cant wait till the full nights sleep! :fingerscrossed:
He is really congested and fluey atm too, i didnt think there was anything i could give him but panadol, but a friend told me yesterday that you can get infant demazin which is from 1 month. So..(our chemist is an hour away!!) i will be off to the chemist tomorrow to stock up on meds!!
He hasnt pooed now for 3 days..i know breast fed babys can go a while, but hoping its not the odd formula bottles making him constipated!
freddie- my bub hates swaddling too, but i havent tried him for a while..maybe i will give it another go!
sugar n spice- Feeds in 15mins !! Wow..sorry you have probably previously said but are you breast or bottle? My little man spends ages on the boob, and if i give him a bottle it takes him about an hour to get through 150ml!
leisa - my bub is 5 weeks, feeds every 3 hours during day, is on boob bout 40 mins. He is putting on heaps btwn 300-400gm a week. When i express i get about 150mls average.
I wouldnt worry too much, if bub is sleeping soundly for 4 hours, she is obvioulsy full and content!!
We are off to the clinic now, will check back in later !

finalcountdown - im bottle feeding.
ashton also does the sleep feed play routine aswell.
Finalcountdown - was it you that mentioned the infants demazin? If so it wont help if bubs has a blocked nose. My ashton has a cold so do i and all my other boys and i havent needed to use my infants panadol yet im just using baby fess. i think i have the Nyal brand that you get at woolies.

We seem to have settled into a good routine as I am able to express 100mls in advance for each feed (so I am now 1 feed ahead all the time). Which means either me or DH can feed him straight away when he's ready and I can then express for the next feed within an hour or when it suits me. This is really working well. Reece is not 4kgs yet so 100mls seems perfect for him, he refuses to take anymore anyway. He feeds every 4 hours during the day and 5 hours at night. I do have a problem settling him at least once during the night but I really swear by the lullaby music CD, which we play for 30 mins. To those of you having problems settling their bubs, have you tried playing the lullaby music?
After reading the other posts, I think we are quite lucky with the routine he is in at the moment :fingerscrossed:
We have an appt tomorrow with the Maternal health nurse, so I hope he is gaining weight too.
It's hot here in Melb again so Reece is a bit unsettled today. But I don't mind him being cranky in the daytime as it usually means he sleeps better at night lol.
Sugar - I hope your boys are better soon, nothing worse than having sickness in the house.
Mim1 - Sorry to hear about the unsettled night you had, do you think the heat could be the reason why? Also, have you thought about giving a top-up of formula if Josh still seems hungry? I have done that once so far with Reece and he seemed fine with it.
T Bear - I love the name "Wilf" for short, also great pic in your Avatar. Great to hear the first week went well for you.
Leisa - If you can only express 60mls at one time, try expressing around 20-30 mls in-between feeds earlier in the day (especially first thing in the morning when supply is greater). You can keep adding the milk to the same bottle if it is kept in the fridge and used within 24 hours.
This will give you a bigger amount for the night-time feed and also help to increase your supply.
Charis - I have got the horseshoe pillow aswell, up until now I was using it to sit on for my sore backside  The good news is that I am slowly getting back to normal "down there" and it doesn't all look so horrifying anymore.
I don't use the pillow for feeding yet as Reece is still a bit small, but he likes to lay in it on the couch with us instead.
Happy Val entine's day to everyone (I only realised the date when I read Charis's post  ) It's also my cats birthdays, they are 8 today
happybirthday to Bill and Ben xx
Hi everyone. Lots of posts to catch up on.
Kelsey is going well. I am probably like other mums who have other toddlers or kids in that we don't have much of a routine to speak of. Kelsey has to be flexible with her sleeps so that I can do other things and spend time with DS. She is a fairly placid baby but like most bubs has a bit of an unsettled time in the evening. Thankfully it is usually after DS goes to bed so I can spend some time with her. I feed her on demand so she can have whatever she wants when she wants and she usually wakes 2-3 times during the night. She even slept through one night last week and I woke to find the sheets soaked with milk and I jumped out of bed to check she was still breathing!!!
J'dore - It is so hard when bubs wants to be held all of the time isn't it? And you have other kids too which makes it even more difficult. I agree with the other ladies that suggested a baby pouch. I read the baby whisperer book when my DS was a baby as he was really "high maintenance" and she had some good tips on working towards self settling. To wean them off going to sleep in your arms I think she first suggests laying them on a pillow in your lap and patting to sleep then gradually transferring the pillow to the cot and continuing the pat to sleep. After a while you can just put them down with a few pats and leave.
Leisa - I agree with finalcountdown that she will let you know if she is hungry!!! Kelsey is a speed feeder and only spends about 10 mins on each side.
Bubs is awake so I am off. Take care.

Hi everyone! Thanks for your congrats and thanks heaps Charis for posting for me. Will have to be quick as I am so flat out, just got home now and so much to do and soooooooo tired!!!
My big boy really didn't wanna come out, had to have csec in the end as it turned out for the better anyway and it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought. Can say I went through a long, painful labour at least, but we are recovering well and got sent home a day early!:smiliedance: Xavier is so gorgeous, i'm just so in love! Definitely worth the wait. Hope everyones bubs are going well, looking forwrd to posting about xavier's progress too. will have to finally upload photobucket methinks! take care all!
finalcountdown I thought Hamish hated swaddling, and so did he! But today we had such a great day sleep-wise. Last night he had a 5 1/2 hour sleep then a 3 hour sleep and a 1 hour to take him to 7am with virtually no time to settle after the night feeds. I had to wake him after this and each two hour sleep during the day and he went down fairly easily each time - well by comparison to yesterday in particular when it took up to 45 mins to get him to sleep and then he only went down for 40 minutes. Tonight he calmly held his arms down as he waited for me to wrap him before bed. what a lovey...here's proof!

I do have a baby sling and Cooper is in it almost all day!! I think that he associates it with sleep time now and that may be why he wont sleep in his bassinet, It is great though, it means I can have my hands free to get on with getting things done.
I've been using infacol at night with Cooper and it's great for bringing his wind up. The only thing is that it makes him do such a loud forceful burb that it wakes him right up and it takes a while to resettle him:rolleyes:
I love Cooper sooo much, he's just starting to really get the hang of smiling and it is so rewarding. I hope you are all doing ok and no one is struggling to much with adjusting to life with their new little one.
Have a great day

Hi all, how would you all be? I am doing really well after a great night sleep. Bridget was quite unsettled last night, screamed for nearly 2 hours! So i gave her a feed and a bath then put her in her vibrating bouncer (which has been a blessing!). She went off to sleep at 9:30 pm and did not wake again until 6:30this morning! I wish she would do that every night.:fingerscrossed:
Bridget was 4 weeks on Tuesday so I went and weighed her. She is now 4260 gm (9lb 7oz). She has put on almost 800gm since birth! Mum said that was how big I was as a new born! OMG!!
I do recommend the vibrating bouncer. When we flew to Hervey Bay last week I said to DH how will we cope for 4 days without the bouncer, so he pulled it apart and packed into the suitcase!
Oops better go, I have just been puked all over- dont you just love that?lol.

well Geoffrey had a much better night last night, fed him at 7.45pm and asleep by 8.30pm and woke at 2.20am and then woke at 7.20am, and still asleep now!! must have been the active day we had y'day, went out shopping for a couple of hours..
hi again,
I was just wondering if those of you using electric breast pumps could recommend one? I've got an Avent hand pump but it doesn't seem to be doing the job properly. The sleep  suggested I hire an electric one for a couple of weeks but preliminary investigations suggest I might as well buy one given how much it costs to hire???

hi again,
I was just wondering if those of you using electric breast pumps could recommend one? I've got an Avent hand pump but it doesn't seem to be doing the job properly. The sleep  suggested I hire an electric one for a couple of weeks but preliminary investigations suggest I might as well buy one given how much it costs to hire???

I have got both the Avent Isis manual and electric. The electric is good, but it's no quicker than the manual, just less work. We paid $249 for it but got a travel bag, bottles and containers included. You can buy just the pump only for approx $199.
I had Reece fed, changed and ready for bed by 9pm last night. This is the earliest we have put him to bed. Trouble is, we didn't end up going to bed until midnight and he woke up for a feed soon after. Had trouble settling him again at 5am. We let him cry for a while and he eventually went to sleep. Is it ok to do this? I don't want to get up at his every whimper as they learn to manipulate us after 6 weeks of age. But if he sounds distressed and cries really hard, then I go to him. What does everyone else do?
I tried feeding him on the breast at the 4am feed, but he just messed around with it and kept falling asleep. So I ended up taking him off and expressing the rest of his feed. I think I will be exclusively expressing from now on, it definitely works alot better for us all.
Sometimes I feel like chucking in the towel and going to formula as it would be so much easier and less time consuming.
But then I feel quilty as I know the breast milk is better for him. I am going to try and persevere with it for at least 2 months if I can.
Hopefully things will get easier when my parents are here and I won't have to worry about housework etc for a while.
This whole thing is making me feel very selfish though :(
thanks Hels, is the electric a stronger pump though? I was hoping it would have a better 'suck' as the manual doesn't seem to do the job - but maybe I just don't have enough milk supply.
on the crying/ sleeping thing, the advice from the midwife I have been seeing (the 'sleep angel') is to quiet him and rock him to sleep in the bassinet so he gets used to sleeping on his own and eventually work towards him going to sleep without too much rocking etc. At the moment this involves fairly vigorous rocking at times and very loud 'shushing' but he is getting better already and knows the cues for sleep - bed time clothes (gro bag), curtains drawn and a good night. Then when its time to get up, open the curtains and say good morning or hello or whatever. Keep the sleep times quiet with minimal eye contact to avoid stimulation.
I let him grizzle a bit as sometimes that is just him getting ready for sleep but go to him if it starts to ramp up into a real cry.
On the feeding, are you expressing because your nipples are sore? Its a long time I know but it took 4 weeks for mine to settle down and now I really enjoy the breast feeding, it would be a shame to throw it in too early, if nothing else it is much more convenient to have a ready supply when you're out than have to prepare bottles etc. and carry them around. I'm not a BF nazi but it is a lovely thing to do if you can - remember, the housework can wait, little one is the most important thing and he'll only be this little for such a short time.
I recommend reading 'The Happiest Baby on the Block' re sleeping, it really helped me.
We had a pretty good night again last night with only 2 wake ups. Kelsey was a bit unsettled before bed but DH was looking after her as I was doing an assignment on the computer.
Freddie - it was you that suggested the book wasn't it? I am off to the shops shortly so I will look out for it - thanks.
Liviesmum - You made me laugh when you said your daughter is now 4260g and that is what you were at birth!!! My Kelsey was born weighing 4260g and 10 days early too!!! She was a whopper! When she was born I remember the midwife saying "look at those thighs"!!
Hels - I agree that it is hard to listen to your baby cry but sometimes I think that a little grizzle at bedtime is just baby self settling. Obviously you know Reece best and know what is best for him but personally I don't respond to every little whimper Kelsey makes otherwise I would be up half the night!!! And sometimes I find she gets a bit grizzly when overtired or overstimulated and she has a bit of a cry when going to sleep. Don't feel bad about it - just go with your instincts. You sound like you are doing well with him and he is lucky to have a mum that loves him and worries about him so much.
Hels, certainly dont feel guilty. Babies need their mothers to survive and that means we need to look after our selves too so we are capable of coping with our bubs. I have just gotten use to letting Tom cry for a bit before going to him.
I had my first nurse appointment today. Tom has grown 1 cm, and put on 760grams in 19 days. He has also gotten 3 cm bigger in the head! He is doing really well, although i have to get his lttle rash checked out. I thought it was just heat rash but she thinks that it could be hormonal.
I got some great advice on sleeping. I am not to feed him less than 2 hourly. He needs to be down in his bed for 2 hours at a time, at the least and we can try and stretch that to 3 hours. He can only be awake for 3/4 to 1 hour at a time then its back to sleep. No more of this snacking business and me picking him up all the time. I feel better that i know the signs for him being sleepy. I thought him being unsettled and thrashing about meant he was hungry so i was feeding him all the time during the day, but now i know that they are the signs for tiredness. I was keeping him awake for too long during the day and he was over tired which is why he has been a bit difficult. I feel like i have been handed all the magic answers! Thankyou Oh wonderful Nurse.
I wasnt feeding him off both breasts either, only one so thats why he was snacking too.
happybirthday Tom is 3 weeks today!
Sorry to rave on about him, i just feel so excited about having this clarity!
j'adore...smiling, that is pretty cool. I cant wait till Tom smiles!
We had a good night after a very unsettled day. Koby was awake and catnapping all day yesterday, he then took ages to go to sleep last night. I was exhausted. DH finally got him to sleep at 8pm and he woke at 12am for a feed, back down at 1am then didn't wake till 4.45am. That's our best night so far!
I spent half the day bouncing on the fit ball with K in my arms yesterday. He loves it. I reccomend trying it if you have one and bubs is unsettled or grumpy.
Koby weighs 4165g (born 3802g) at 16 days old.
Strawberry Shortcake - Thanks for asking....Koby still isn't latching on properley since having his tongue tie snipped, he has a very short tongue. My nipples are paying the price. If things don't improve i will start using the nipple sheild and if my supply starts to diminish i will start topping up with formula. I really want to breastfeed so i'm gritting my teeth thru the pain atm. :fingerscrossed: it gets better.

freddie - hamish is gorgous.
Hels - when you have two other kids like me you have no choice to let them cry a bit as i cant go in there every second so he does cry for a little while but i get in there as soon as i can
Hels...sounds like you have things under control. When I was expressing for TJ, she had about 120ml every feed. And yes, it's ok for bub to cry themselves to sleep. This will help them learn to self settle and lets them know that you're not going to jump and tend to them at every cry (something they will try as they get older).
Flicka...Know what you mean about having the eldest in daycare. I find I need a break from DD1's constant chatter and questions. And yes, DH manages to mess up our routines quiet well when he's home. Although he fed a few times for me, it was often easier to do the feed myself as he was happy letting TJ have 50ml then fall asleep (no burping) on his lap:banghead: . Did manage to get out by myslef and do a few things though, so appreciated him then.
J'dore...Have you tried settleing bub on their tummy during the day. I've found since I've been putting TJ on her tummy she settles quicker and sleeps for longer. If you don't want to leave her on her tummy, my Healthcare nurse suggested rolling her once she was asleep.
Leisa...don't worry of your bub isn't having as much as other people bubs, each bub will only consume as much as they require. Bub may not have as much if they are experienceing a lot of wind and or reflux. DD1 had bad reflux and she never consumed as much formula as the tins suggested at the various ages.
FinalCountdown...if bub is taking a long time to feed on the bottle, check the nipple size. Although I don't know which bottles you are using, Avent have different sizes for different ages. I didn't realise this with DD1 and found she took forever to feed sometimes.
Had another good night here, two 3 hour blocks of sleep. Have been to the Healthcare Nurse this morning. TJ has gained 900gm in two weeks and grown 3cm since birth. At the moment (5 weeks) she is wearing clothes that DD1 wore at 5 months. If she keeps this up she'll overtake DD1 before her first birthday:laughing: . My 'big sister' will become a 'little-big sister'.
Have a good day and lots of sleep,
Lisa
 Hi!
Great to read about all the settling clarity!! Just another thing we're all going through together isn't it.:yelclap:
So yes Acacia, Hunter was the same as Tom, getting kept awake, by too many people talking to him, in-out of car..me pleading with him to go to sleep (heH!) So I completely agree with all the sleep angels + Freddie and I swaddle..and SHH at the first yawn. Am getting a bit sick of Brahms lullabys though Hels!!
In fact he went to sleep in my arms in (the gross) Centrelink of all places!! With me holding him v tight and going SHH into his ear just now.
Hels, I thought it was 6months not 6 weeks for getting us around their littlest cutest finger?? Had a feeling they need to get all that trust+attachment first. But gee of course, let them cry alone, if you can't be there.. I did this morning, but you could hardly call what I had a shower during him crying!! (i usually shower before he wakes up!)Then I put him in his car capsule and he was instantly happy and quiet!!:smiliedance:Great Freddie that Hamish is learning to love it, the secure swaddling feeling. Will come and visit/go out for coffee soon??
Oh on the crying alone sometimes he'll be making quiet little crys, when meant to be asleep and it takes me a few minutes to go and check and he's in some terrible position.. or has moved up the whole bassinet and is rubbing his head on the top!! (and all his hair off, like Daddy)
J'adore gorgeous about the SMILES, lucky thing!! Post some shots!!
Flicka, yes re the milk soaked bed, it does mean you've had a nights sleep..but I think I should have a personal mattress protector. They were squirting (just walking around) this morning, TMI I know!!
Leisa thanks for the donnalix (sp) info. I hope it is working well!
MouseBrown, great about the weight gain!! lol (not) about Men and burping!!
Happy birthday to puss cats Hels. What do they think of Reece?? Mines a bit disgusted I think! She misses her pats too.
I do understand why midwifes say its the lack of support from our DPs or DHs that stop us BFing, or why they can feel usurped. H was awake or feeding between 8 and 11.30 (usual) which makes any just parent time pretty scant. Another of natures contraceptions!!
Aries Moon great to see you here, you amazing girl! I did think it was a long time from when your induction was scheduled to your txt!!! Gosh, what a labour and to 9cm WOW, tell us about yr first days and home, when you have time!!All the best to Xavier:yelclap:
hi all
Just a quick one while DP out and I can get on comp.
He lost his job 3 days ago so a bit of stress now :(
Just hope he gets something real fast, is the last thing we need with a 7 week old baby.
Anyhow clinic visit Katie is now 3850 grams! birth 2415 and 51cm from 44cm
Thats a good gain and she was more than impressed with her neck movement and how shes so happy go lucky and easy.
every night now we get a 5 or 6 hr block then a 4 or 5 hr.
Shes also finally big enough for cloth nappys!
which was lucky as the 2nd box of huggies newborns I had were ALL faulty! All stuck on the left and out of align, have sent back 4 and should get replacement soon.
Sorry no time for personals, soon as DP back at work ill be able get on here more.
hope everyones doing well xxxx
Vicki
oh and I didnt even get flowers for V day :crying: This was quite a big deal to me as when I was preg I told DP that even if I never got flowers any other day, the day I give birth to his child I should and what do you know? I didnt...
So was hoping V day would make up for it
not a happy gal at the moment..

hello to all!!!
so looking forward to smiles - you lucky ladies that are getting them now - it makes it much more precious...
Tayla has been so much more settle the last few days since putting her on the medicine- and as you all know i have been worried about how much milk she has been getting - well i went to weigh her today and last weigh in Friday she was 3.4 kilos today she was 3.64 kilos - so she has put on 250 grams in a little under a week - :smiliedance:
i wasn't sure she was getting enough milk - she had heaps of wet nappies - and now she only feeds for 10-15 mins each feed- i have increased her feeds during the day - to every two hours today to get my supply up -
this is what i have calculated - when i was expressing i would get 30-40mls with each let down - so i figure that each feeds she gets one to two let downs per side - so she gets a minumum of 60mls per feed and when she gets the full four let downs she gets min of about 120 mls - does this sound possible in a span of 10 mins - i know that within 10 seconds of her being on the boob she gets her first let down... - i know that she is getting milk now with her weight gain - but still not sure if she is getting enough -
sorry - i hope this all makes sense...
cheers leisa
Hi there,
Had nurse visit finally on Tuesday and had the little miss weighed. She is 4.690kg, 58cm long , 37cm h/c. This means that she has put on 1.185kg (in three weeks) since leaving hospital - thats 395g per week!! She has also grown 5cm!
I guess she's gonna be a chubba bubba!
Sorry no personals... just dropping in to boast about the weight gain!
Hope all is going well - I barely get time to read the posts anymore.....
Take care!
Cordelia

oh my goodness - so many posts!! I can't even begin to do personals or anything sorry...
Re: amount to express. I've lost track whether i've already said this or whether it was someone here that told me but I really wanted a guide as to how much she should be having and I read somewhere that breastfeed babies have an average of 800ml a day so you divide that by the amount of feeds they have every day. so Caitlin has 7 feeds, and tends to drink just over 100ml of EBM. Now this must be completely wrong as it doesn't take into account the baby's situation but hey! I just like having some numbers.
Caitlin's crying seems to have escalated. So embarrassing - I feed her and play with her b4 we go to the shops but twice this week she has just been sssccreaaamminnnggg when we're out. Two days ago I had to pick DH up from work and there was a bush fire and we were stuck in traffic for 2.5 hours and she ssscccreeeeeeaaaamed the whole time and there was nothing I can do bar the 20 minutes where I pulled over and tried to feed her. The guy in the ute next to me was givign me the worst look as if I could do anything about it!! I was so distraught when I got to DH's work.
It was my birthday yesterday (valentines day baby!) so mum and sister looked after caitlin while I had my hair done and a pedicure... and had flowers delivered, and my beautiful piano tuned for the first time in 3 years and basically had the best day ever! It was nice to be completely selfish and spoilt for a day. DH even came home early to make dinner for me! AND to make matters even BETTER... Caitlin slept soooo wellllll... yayyyyy... now if only that would continue tonight!
PS Caitlin is now 3250g.. so she's gone up 1180g in 7.5 weeks which is an average of around 160g a week.. I guess that's not too bad for a tiny tiny baby. I know she's feeding enough because she has lots of wet nappies - i just wish the weight loss would be as much as bigger babies!!
Did any of you watch Saving Babies??? I just cried the whole way thru!! Well, so did DH so at least he couldn't laugh at me.

good to hear of all the weight gains with bubs! its so exciting and makes you feel proud!!
Geoffrey had the best sleep ever last night....fed him at 9.15pm, in bed at 10pm and didn't wake up till 5.30am!!! yay!! hope that this sleeping through the night continues!! then when he woke at 5.30, fed him back to sleep till 8.30am and then another quick feed, back to sleep and still sleeping now. we had a fair bit of awake time y'day, so i think thats the key!!
It's taken me a long time to catch up on everyone's posts......so much good information!!
Audrey is doing really well - we are getting a good stretch of sleep from about 8pm to 2am so that's keeping me sane! She's feeding off the boob now without nipple shields!!!! I'm still topping up with formula though......and expressing. After all of that there's very little time to do much else!
My parents are coming to visit next week...Audrey will be 6 weeks so they can deal with the dreaded unsettledness that is to come.
I'm really interested in all the settling discussion. She is generally very good except for the morning 8-10am. She just won't go to sleep - we rock, we cuddle, we have the music going, the vibrating bouncer works sometimes...but she'll be awake for hours with just little nods off occasionally!!! It's really starting to drive me crazy - I think I'll try the swaddling again but she is a serious houdini and has managed to get out of just about everything in the past - even when in her sleeping bag she ends up with her feet stuck out between the clips!
She loves the baby bjorn - with the fantastic brisbane heat we went with the active version and it's really cool for her. When i don't feel like walking with the pram, we pound the pavement in it!
DH is great - he will bath and dress, bottle feed, cuddle, get up at night, and pretty much anything else including washing and vacuuming.....he does not change pooey nappies though! He tried last night for the first time...and chickened out! I figure if that's the only thing he won't do I'm doing quite well!!
Welcome to all those new bubba's....I'm loving seeing all the great names people are calling their babies!
Oh yeah...I finally worked out how to do an avatar!
morning all
how is life in babyland today? you really do have to take one day at a time don't you?
Hamish had one 3 hour sleep then woke every two hours through last night and only an hour after the last feed....sigh...I got so excited when he did a 5.5 hour then two 3 hours! at least it shows he can do it. maybe its another growth spurt but sometimes I think he's been on one since he was born!! We went to the community nurse yesterday and he's now 5.105 kg (about 11 pounds) so still growing well - 75th percentile for weight and 54cm (+3cm from birth) and average for height too.
Acacia - I relate completely to your descriptions re sleep. We're on 1.5 hours up and 2 hours down but don't always make it. It seems a bit boom and bust: one day I have to wake him up for a feed then the next I can't keep him asleep.
Sugar - thanks for the nice words about my lovely little Hamish!
Charis - yes to catch up and coffee soon
Tabby - I really hope your DH finds work soon and buys you a big bunch of flowers to celebrate
Leisa - I'm so impressed with your calculations on the amount of breast milk. I think the best gauge for whether or not they are getting enough is if they aren't crying out for more, are growing, and there's plenty coming out the other end! It sounds like you're doing very well on all these counts.
Well, this has to be the first time I've really managed personals - sorry if I missed anyone out.
:fingerscrossed: Hamish stays asleep for another hour at least as I've got heaps to do...
kx
ps cate, you posted same time as me - gorgeous avatar and I'm SO jealous of your night sleeps. I think one of the keys to the sleep/ settling is to keep distractions to a minimum and have a routine they get to know means sleep time.
Gosh don't we all know so much more..than a week/a month/2months ago :)
Cate - great avatar, Audrey looks such an alert cuteypie. Hamish does look just beautiful and is getting perfectly weighty! Freddie. My H is just tall!!
About the 8-10am 'wont settle'..maybe this is her 'may stay awake 2-3hrs of a 24hr cycle'? Secrets of Good Sleepers by Ngala. 0-3months also 'usually tired after 1-1.5 hrs awake, may sleep up to 6hrs.' Ngala is just WA? I think so cos its a Noongar word. H stays awake from 8-11 most nights, not tired/yawny or all that fractuous till you try to put him to sleep. So I stopped trying:)
Though was going to ask if anyone knows how to change their awake time..then again he night feeds once or not at all. Perfect last night. 6.30am feed, which he considered still night and I considered day, so he went straight back to sleep tummy full and I got a lot done, but in a relaxed manner. Phew!!
The heater for nappy changes is just great!
Cordelia the driving/bushfire day sounds v v hard! Poor you, so hard to focus when your heart strings are all so pulled! 10mins driving when he's hungry and I start going mental!!
Hehe.. have you all realised at one time or other that you can mentally make yr milk come:yes: I guess this helps when expressing and why they suggest that looking at a photo of bub may help the 'let-down'.
5weeks today and he was just minutes old!! Gosh sometimes the future and time seems daunting, ie school lunches! sometimes it seems so far away. They are a precious aren't they!!!
Happy Fridays all!!:smiliedance:
Sounds like we all have booming babiesfrom the recent weight gains.
Tabby...:hugs: hope your DP gets another job soon. As for flowers, my DH refuses to buy them (nope, no flowers in hospital), instead he says I can go to the nursery to buy something for the garden. Which is great as I usually get a few plants, but sometimes it would be nice to actually get flowers. My parents grow flowers for a living and when in hospital with DD1 I got a huge bunch, this time in hospital I didn't get any - nothing in flower early Jan:rolleyes:  .
Had a bad evening with TJ yesterday. We fed at 8pm and she didn't settle until 11. Couldn't work out what the proble was, and I still ahve no idea. She didn't burp, poo or want any more milk. I think in the end tiredness got her. Then when she woke at 5.45am DD1 decided it was time for her to get out of bed. After a barney with her and lots of tears on her part, she finally went back to her bed. She joined me at 7 and we slept 'til 8, yah!
Hope everyone has a great day!

Hi there, hope you are all well. Sorry to gloat but I am doing well again today. Bridget had another big sleep last night. she went off at 10pm and did not wake til 6:30am. Yes I am gloating and have enjoyed my sleep but was wondering if I should allow this to go on while she is this young. It could be a fluke thing that she has slept through 2 nights in a row but if it does continue should I be waking her for a feed or is a 9 hour sleep acceptable?
Tabby- :fingerscrossed: your husband finds another job soon, it is a horrible and stressful time especially with an infant.
Better fly have to go pick DD up from school!

Freddie - Love the pics...he is sooo cute!! he looks soo peaceful all swaddled up there!!! I did try in again the other nite, but he just screamed and screamed, might have to persist!
Tabby - sorry to hear about your hubby loosing his job. Keep your chins up!
Cordelia - HAPPY BDAY......thats great that you treated yourself, i think we should all be doing more of that!
Mouse brown - Yes I was using the wrong teats, it was a bit confusing actually! I am using the Nuk bottles, I tried Avent with my first DD and she just wouldnt take them. Plus i read somewhere to try and use teats as close to your nipples, the avent are sooo big, hard and pointy!! LOL Not like me!
Anyhow, i ended up buying the smaller teats as i was expressing alot, and the small was for Breast milk. So now i have to make sure i use the small for breast milk, and the med for formula!!! His feeding time is down to about 20mins now..(on bottle that is though!)
Just when i thought everything was settling down, Jett had 3 hours of inconsolable screaming last nite. Was around the same time as the night before...so...do i "class" this as colic? If you ask me it was a bad case of wind. I tried to stay sane and just went through the motions....its such a form of torcher though..for mum and bub alike. :banghead:
Eventually i got him to sleep, and he did a 4 hour then 3 hour stint. Im dreading to see if we are in for the same tonight....I tried Infants Friend yesterday instead of the Marina....but alas...no help.

Finalcountdown! - The lady from the lactation clinic i went and seen, said the teat closes to a nipple is the Pigeon brand Peristaltic Nipple bottle. They work wonders. I was using avent bottles before changing to the Pigeon ones( Talon hated sucking the avent bottles).
Last night Talon slept really well. I was up only once for a feed. Now I just have to try and get him to sleep during the day. He's just catnapping and i'm not getting anything done. Does anyone know any good baby music cd's??? Hels i looked everywhere for the cd you recommended, can't seem to find it.
Anyway better go I'm in the middle of doing my own Thank you cards for the people who sent me flowers and gifts when i was in hospital and when i got home. Would like to try and get as many done today before master Talon wakes up.
Take care everyone

Freddie - The Avent electric pump does has a better suction (than the manual) and you also get to preset the intensitiy (manually) before switching it to electric, then it remembers your favourite setting.
Charis - I know what you mean about the leaking nipples... can be quite embarrasing at times! I have found that the pigeon breast pads are best for me as they are a bigger size than some others so they can't be seen under the bra. I am very conscious of this lol.
The cats are ok with Reece, although we don't have them in the house as much now and never unattended around the baby. The cats would run away when he cried, but they seem to be getting used to it now. How are your's coping?
Tabby - Sorry to hear about your DP loosing his job, I hope something else comes along real soon :fingerscrossed: That's great that Katie fits in her cloth nappies now, which one's do you have? I have ordered some peapod pockets, but he is still too small to wear them ATM.
I didn't get any flowers either, sort of forgot it was even Val entine's day until later in the day.
Liviesmum - If Reece was sleeping for 9 hours I would let him do it. I think if you're happy that Bridget is getting enough feeds during her awake time, then make the most of it (you lucky thing!!)
Cordelia - Hope you had a happybirthday on the 14th and enjoyed your bit of pampering.
Strawberry_shortcake - The CD we have is by Fisher Price and it came from Target. It was in the Baby section and not the music part. If you get really stuck finding one, message me your address and I will burn a copy of mine and post it to you.
Thanks for the referral on the bottle, we are using Avent but I'm not overly impressed with them and some of them leak or the teats (all newborn ones) are too fast or slow.
Us - Well, we went to the Heath nurse yesterday and unfortunately Reece hasn't gained much weight. He was 6lbs 13oz at birth and after 3 weeks he still only weighs 7lb 4oz. So it turns out I was actually right in thinking that he wasn't getting enough milk from the breast. It's still early days for expressing so I will stick with it but we also have to add a formula top-up each feed. The nurse said we can mix it in the same bottle with the breast milk, I didn't know we could do this. Will see how we go this week, he gets weighed again in a week :fingerscrossed: The good thing is that he is still feeding in 4-5 hour lots during the night so we do get some sleep.
2 days until my parents arrive :smiliedance:
We managed to dust and vacuum half of the house today. But I spoke to my mum on the phone who said not to worry as she will do it all when she gets here. I still want the place clean before they get here though, but then she can do it all for the next 6 weeks lol

Liviesmum – that’s great on the vibrating bouncer, we have one given to us but I haven’t tried Ariane on it yet, must do that tomorrow and see how she likes it.
Hels I don’t think they can really manipulate us but they get used to having things a certain way. I wouldn’t call that manipulating though. I don’t go to every whimper but I also don’t let my baby cry. In regards to topping up I would only mix the breastmilk with the formula if you are sure that Reece will drink it all, I mean you’d hate to throw out a partially drunk bottle if it’s got breastmilk in it, that stuff is liquid gold.
Freddie it may just be that your body needs to get accustomed to the breast pump rather than it not being a good pump. Is there anyone willing to loan you a breastpump to trial ?
Acacia good to hear you sorted out the tired signs and can avoid snacking now
Tabby I hope your dh can find a new job very soon.
Leisa your calculations sound good, she may even be getting more than that as I’ve always noticed that baby seems to deflate my breasts so much better than a breastpump so I assume that baby is actually drinking a lot more than I can ever get out with the pump. Great weight gains so what you are doing is obviously working.
Cait I have similar weight gains with Ariane too, it’s wonderful, congratulations.
Cordelia what a wonderful Valentines day for you
Cate congratulations on being off the nipple shields. Is it possible to pound the pavement with the baby bjorn during the fusy 8-10am time
US well Ariane has been sleeping well both day and night, some nights she's only awake once for a feed and occasionally a second time for a cuddle and resettle as she doesn't want the feed, which means I've woken up with mastitis as she only feeds on one side overnight and for most of the day. She only gets both sides in the afternoon/evening. I managed to take care of it with panadol and homeopathics, thanks to a brilliant herbalist/compounding chemist nearby as well as expressing, it took my a while to find all the parts of my breastpump though.
Ariane's weight was 4370 at 3.5 weeks so she has gained 1130 since birth, and it was 200grams from Friday to Tuesday. I was very impressed she is growing so well. I'm organising her christening at the moment and we have a family heirloom gown so I'm glad it's only 2 weeks away and she should fit in it just in time.
hi all ... been a hectic few days, no time for personals sorry.
josh decided on tuesday that he wanted to feed almost constantly and so he's been feeding heaps in the last few days. we saw the child health nurse on wednesday and she said he was trying to increase my supply cause he's growing so well and needs more milk now. so to help increase my supply i've also been expressing after feeds. it's so time consuming, but it does mean i have extra milk for overnight. he still has his days and nights mixed up, but we're surviving. having some EBM meant that I could go to bed last night and not have to get up the moment he was hungry so that was great. dh spent 3 hours with him though, but oh well.
Josh has grown 4cm in length since birth and put on 500g in the last 2 weeks, so he's doing really well.
anyway, should go see if he's hungry and if not go back to bed for some more sleep! I went out for 4 hours today and i think i exhausted myself!

Just a quick question...
We are going out tomorrow night and my mum is watching Cooper. I was just wondering how many mls of breast milk should I prepare for Cooper for one feed? He's 6 weeks old.
Thanks in advance :D

J'dore - Half your luck!!! have a good nite out!! They are all different, but my little fella is 6 weeks and i express 150 for him, and he usually takes just about all of it.
Hels - Thats interesting about mixing formula in with the breast milk, i hadnt heard that one either. Im on a similar path as you at the moment, i am expressing and feeding. But of an evening ive been giving bub a formula feed to fill him up and also to let me play catch up with the expressing. Its hard work!! My hubby is really worried that im stuffing him up with changing milk....(we ve had some bouts of screaming!). And now he hasnt pooed for 4 days and i wondering if he could be constipated? Some days i think 'thats it, i give up' but want to continue to do the best for him, dont know how long ill last though!!
DS had the classic reflux symptoms so was put on zantac. Was good for a while. The last couple nights around the same time, after his last bottle 7ish, he s been screaming in pain. I ll work on him for ages and he will eventually let out a few fluffs, so im thinking its just bad wind. I have tried, warm water, marina, infants friend, pumping his legs, rubbing his tummy, rolling him from side to side, dummy, rocking, patting, you name it, ive tried it.
What i dont understand is for past few weeks he farted and burped like a trooper, but now hes having trouble. His screaming is sooo full on, and he is in sooo much pain that i end up in tears feeling soooo helpless. Surely the little fella shouldnt have to suffer like this.
Now im wondering, is it the reflux, or colic, or wind as i thought? Any comments are welcomed....any other ideas on helping to relive wind ladies? I ll try anything!!! LOL...
Freddie - I have the avent manual and electric pump. I do find that i can get more out with the manual as it has a little stronger suction. but the electric is definetly alot easier. Try to relax when expressing, drop your shoulders, deep breaths, close your eyes, to encourage let down. I find pushing on certain parts of the boob whilst expressing can trigger certain ducts to let down too.
 Well after 4 hours of screaming DS is finnallly asleep, for how long im not sure.....i was tempted to put him on his tummy to sleep but still to scared..is anyone else sleeping bubs on their tum?

Sorry..but forgot to say thanks Strawberryshrt for the tip on the teats. I have seen those ones around, might have to give them a try. Also, the CD we have is just from Woolworths in the baby section, its great!
CATE - just wondering how you went about getting bub off the shields?
thanks everyone :hugs:
am feeling better today, just a bit down for the first few days after job loss, im sure he will get something fast.
On the subject of teats, just today I swapped to the avent ones and so far so good, she is and allways has been quite a piggy and choked or gulped lots of air and no matter what "slow" teat I got it was never slow enough, so far so good with the avent colic teat and bottle. little air and less milk brought up after and no grumbling and tossing from tummy ache, so :fingerscrossed: ive got it right finally as have an abundance of teats and bottles that I have been buying and trying and were suppose to be "slow flow" but didnt end up being any slower than normal. $10 a bottle they had better be good lol
Hels; am just using the normal cloth nappies. The thin flannel ones at the moment folded as I was shown with ds1 for newborns and toweling for later when bigger. She is really still a little small to be in them but such a money saver, At the moment its cloth when awake but huggies at nights as we all know they draw the wetness away and longer sleeping pattern at nights is my number one priority and anything that helps.
Mousebrown: Ive had a couple of unsettled periods with katie too lately ,usually late arvo, Seems tired but pop to bed and calls out for me 5 mins later wanting to get up then 10 mins later tired again. this happens over and over
no idea whats wrong either but settles eventually early eve from tiredness.
liviesmum: personally if bubs is gaining weight fine I would let her go through, I was lucky enough to have ds1 sleep through from 4 weeks and 9 hrs too most of the time.
cordelia: Happy birthday! :hugs:
must go katies waking..
More personals tomorrow!
Hope all sleep well xxx

finalcountdown - we are almost constantly sleeping Geoffrey on his tummy, I was really worried at first and only doing it during the day so I could keep an eye on him. now its night and day and he is sleeping so well at night, again last night slept from 10.45pm - 5.45am, so am pretty happy with that!
i guess you are the best judge of whether they should sleep on tummies, but Geoffrey loves it and sleeps the best and longest on his tummy
hi!
Got a question: When do you all express? Just would like to get a couple of feeds frozen and to increase milk supply for 6wk growing spurt..I read that after the morning feed the best time..but this seems a long time after feeding. Play/settle/sleep then express?? Thanks !!
Strawb Short, so glad you're still doing your thankyou cards. Me too. I addressed the envelopes when still preg. But by now some of the recipients have even moved house, its been so long
Finalcountdown, v sorry about the 4hrs of crying. I was there a week ago. Three things have worked. Had all the same, clenched fists, head throw back, naughty little hands hitting face, straight legs, cry, cry, cry too. Was thinking it colic/wind, but actually think he was just overtired.
-I do burp him straight after a feed to make sure all the air goes up, rather than causing issues down..
-So same as Freddie/Happiest Kid on the Block book, swaddle (though may still seem like they hate it!) sway/swing and shhh and use sound-music/white noise and no more crying, maybe even asleep. They do get to like it.
-H has also been to the Chiropractor 3 times in the last week, as my Mum though his neck/head throw back was bad..I still am v sceptical if anything was wrong. But his neck/back all gorgeous now. The baby massage left him v blissed out:)
J'Adore how was your night out? Sounds like a v nice thing to do.
Strange morning seems like another Saturday all over. Woke H gently (i know what a sin!!) for a feed at 5am and bundled him into the carcapsule. Had my ski already on the car to take to the Rottnest Swim for a friend who was to paddle it alongside a team. Huge event, each team/solo has a paddler and a boat. Major organisation for everyone getting everything there. I'd just turned the car on, about to leave at an ungodly hour and got a txt saying its cancelled!! Good timing. Little sweetypie H didn't even wake getting manhandled back into his bassinet :smiliedance: A combination of relief and disappointment for most, I think!!Lovely having three more hours sleep !
Happy Saturdays girls!

CHARIS, just read that bit about how you thought H had colic, with all the signs he was displaying. X is like this right now, and it is soooooo trying, seems to only happen at nite too!!!I spend ages burping him, so maybe I should just try and get him back to sleep sooner?? Hmm, no point to what I just said really, lol, just comforting to know im not the only one experiencing this, just feels like it though! He doesn't stay swaddled either, it's all so frustrating at the moment!!
Well of course he is sleeping peacefully at the moment as it is daytime now:rolleyes: , should go and get my shower in while I have the chance!! Hope everyone's bubs are going well! Can't wait until I have more time to post, just seems like all we do is feed/settle repeat!
enjoy your saturday ladies
I haven't managed to catch up with all the posts, it is pretty crazy with Billy and Imani (4 year old)!
Between getting up, racing to make beds, dishes, washing and the usual in time to take Imani to pre-school for 2 3/4 hours, BF and the rest! I just don't seem to have enough time.
Sounds like mummies are going well. Billy is sleeping between 3 - 4 hours at night and seems to be a huge baby. It will be interesting to see how much he weighs at his 6 week check.
Imani is really great with him and has grown up a lot since he came into the world. She also helps out and I can ask her to get the nappy bag ready, car keys etc when we go out.
Anyhow, hope to find some time soon to catch up on how everyone is going.
Happy Valentines for the other day!

so as you all know - i have been worried that i wasn't supplying bubs with enought milk - well it is official i have been starving my bubs - well not really ;)
we had our post birth chech up - only four weeks coz we have been having adjusting problems -ie no milk -
Peadiatrician confirmed that bubs hasn't put on enought weight - due to my milk supply. He put me on some medication overnight and wait for it - i expressed 80mls just now. Two weeks ago - i was lucky to express 50-60ml and last week i was lucky to express 20-30 ml. And so proud to of gotting 80mls. In between me getting my milk back and all - she has had two bottles of formula as top ups and she is much more content and her face looks fuller too.
She has grown over three cms in length since birth but has only put on 100gms on her birth weight. I have until friday to get 120 grams on her or i have to give her 30mls of formula after each breast feed.
I knew she was getting some milk ie wet nappies and somewhat content - sleeping between meals and most days very well adjusted.. iykwim.. but very happy to be felling full in the (.)(.)'s again...
cheers to all

Hi!!
Sugar wow!! You're an amazing woman:) How on earth!? Everytime I go to settle H-y the last few days I wonder how you/benGs/JennasMum/TiredMummy/MouseBrown/Noah+Owens/Karrina do it! Ok so I missed someone.. Simply not enough hours in the day for it all. I don't think you can spend more than 1/2hr pacing around to put them to sleep??? Great that the little ones learn to help, Imani!!
Leisa your title is v cute, I know its not meant to be funny;) CONGRATULATIONS on the 80ml. That is huge. The best I've ever done is 30ml. Go Go Go for the 120grams.
I was lucky enough to hear from the wonderful BrisMummy before and hope she'll pop in here too, Lily is 7wks on Wednesday:smiliedance: Her lovely Mum is going well too, told her we all miss her.
Where are the original December girls? I used to read about Sabby+Clare..? Lost them now.
Happy sleeps! Hunter is strangely asleep and its only just after 10pm!? Thus the post.

Hi,
Finalcountdown: Have you tried a warm nappy? Pop a cloth nappy in the microwave for about 20/30 seconds (depending on your microwave). Then wrap the warm nappy around his middle, put him over your shoulder and rub his back (you can try on his tummy too - or what ever position he prefers - it's all trial and error).
Of course you've probably already tried this among a million other things!!
Good luck!!

Leisa good luck on the 120grams, you'll probably get a growth spurt of twice that much now
Sugar - did you say Ash was in size 2? size 2 what?? that is a major growth spurt
Leisa- great news about the fuller boobies. Hopefully Tayla starts to put on some more weight quickly.
Charis - good to hear brismummy is doing well, hope she pops her head in soon to say hi.
What a good lil sleeper H can prove to be, being carted in out and out of cot, carseat. Always the way, when your all organised things get cancelled...i bet if you were running late with a screaming baby it would have still been on!
Koby seems to have fallen into a bit of a routine. He likes to be awake, catnapping or being held from early morning 5-6am till about 11am. Then has a good 3-4 hour sleep. Does the same from about 3-4pm till about 7-8pm. It makes it hard to get anything done. Night time, getting up once or twice, but easy to settle after a feed so thats good.
I rock or bf him to sleep, put him in his bassinette and 10-15mins later he's awake....repeat! Note to self ....don't start anything...like cooking, washing etc all gets half done. Oh well, thats life with a newborn. :)
Happy Sundays all round :hugs:
:banghead: Had almost finished lots of personals when DD1 decided she wanted to see "the magic one":wizard: and moved/click the mouse button and I lost it all. So here's a condensed version:
LiviesMum...let her sleep. If she's gaining weight then she's getting enough feeds in during the day.
Finalcountdown...Hope bub starts to settle better at night soon. Giev the reflux medication a couple of weeks, if still not good, try Losec. I settle TJ on her tummy during the day.
Tabby...good muck with teh Avent bottles. I have always used them. If you find they leak, you've got the top on too tight.
Sugar...size 2?! He is really progressing well.
Got to go TJ awake now.

We have had a real roller coaster weekend. Both yesterday and today have been very very hot in Melb and Reece has been so unsettled. He just cries and screams nearly all day long. Have just resorted to swaddling him really tightly and he's in his basinette in a cooler room with his lullabys playing. He screamed for quite a while but has not gone to sleep at last :fingerscrossed: .
In comparison, he was an angel last night. Was fed and put down 3 times with no tears, just straight to sleep. So I suppose we can't have it both ways. It's meant to cool down this week so will see how he goes.
I was really crook yesterday, had one of my bad headaches and was throwing up in the morning. Didn't want to give bubs my breastmilk incase I had a tummy bug so I ended up pouring 120 mls down the drain :( Then DH fed him a whole bottle of formula which must have been too rich for him so we had our first projectile :barf:
I am thinking of weaning him off the breast milk now. I feel that I spend too much time attached to the pump and I want to be with my baby more. I'll see how things are this week when my parents are here to help but I definitely won't be BF'ing anymore after they go home.
We pick up my folks from the airport tonite at 9pm, I can't wait to see them again.
I might have to take a leave of absense from BH for a while as I don't think I will have the time to get on very much. I'll try to read posts when I can.
All the best to everyone and bye for now
Mousebrown: thanks for the avent tip!! wondered why sometimes they leaked and other times not.
They are definitely working, less wind going in for sure, even yesterday she drank the whole bottle without stopping and wouldnt burp after trying for ages so put her down anyhow thinking she'd be up with a belly ache but she still slept like an angel, was quite surprised.
Hels: hope you have a wonderful time with your parents.
have noticed this last few days that Katie has lots and lots of awake time now.
Still sleeping well but today must be start of another growth spurt as since 8am its 3hrly and last night was 4 hrly ( had been 5+ for a week )
better go get her bottle done
hope you all had/having a great weekend
Vicki
Hi everyone,
I feel really sad atm. Tom hates the new routine and has been awake most of the time for the last 3 nights. He was in a really good pattern before and now and im wondering if i needed to change anything at all. Im very tired and i just want him to sleep like he was before because im not seeing anything positive from it. Sorry to moan.

Liamsmumma - Thanks for that idea, nope hadnt tried that one but will definetly give it a go!!
Last night we had noooo screaming at all HOORAY!! I have been b/f and giving the occasional formula bottle (karicare AR). I think what happened was he became quite bound up, as he hadnt pooed for 4 days. Later that night after the hours of screaming he did an absolutly huge explosive poo. So im guessing that was the pain! Im now giving him a little prune juice and water 3 times a day just to keep him regular.
Alas there was no screaming but he feed 2 hourly last night and constantly today.....he just hit 6 weeks yesterday so am guessing its a bit of a growth spurt & him trying to increase my supply?? B/f all day......so eggs on toast it is for tea tonite!!
Hels - Thats no good to hear your sick. It may be worth checking out but i heard somewhere that its ok to feed bubs whilst you are sick, they wont get it???
Mousebrown - thanks for that...he seems to protest being on his tummy at first but eventually gives in and goes to sleep. only on the floor on a rug though, wont do it in his cradle!? He was on infant demazin, marina, nilstat..and zantac...have taken him off everything and gone back to basics , just giving him the zantac now and he seems to have come good again, but will definetly try losec if things get worse
The weekend has been great!! Not having to get out of bed and rush bub through a feed to get DD to school......ahhhh back to the grind tomorrow.
Hope everyone and their bubs are doing well...
As hard as it may seem some days, enjoy every minute while you can, before you know it they are off too school, and dont need their mummas anymore!!!

HI everyone,
Just a quick question. Anyone got any ideas on how to combine both breast and bottle feeding. My little one is not gaining enough weight and I am trying to biuld my supply but with a 3 year old and a 17 month old its hard to express and feed. I really dont want to stop breast feeding if I dont have to. Any ideas on how to combine would be greatly appreciated.:banghead:

victoria75 - i know what you mean - i went the the peadiatrician on friday coz she wasnt' gaining weight - and he diagnosised her with silent reflux - so she taught herself to not feed as much - little time on the breast and not enought weight gain. he put me on some medication (to get my milk back up - the whole supply thing ) and also told me to make up a bottle of formula a day and give her 30-40 mls after each feed. This way she gets the goodness in the breast milk and i try to express inbetween . she has been sleeping thru for 8 hours over the weekend - so i get up when i would normally feed her whilst she is sleeping and express - so know i have breast milk instead of formula- and i give her 30-40mls of that instead. But don't stress if you don't have enough milk just give them the formula after the breast whilst you build your supply. His suggestion has worked great...
we have one much happier baby - if you have read my other posts about starving my baby _ :o
good luck with it though - see your doctor if you need help with your supply as i said they have medication if you need help - i started it on friday and my milk has gone from expressing 10mls to 60mls now. i was in the same boat as you i have a 6 and 5 yo and after school i was getting so stressed that bubs was not getting enough milk and very stressed that with the reflux was not pleasant -

Hi there to all. Had another good couple of nights, Bridget sleeping all the way through. Looks like this could be the way it will be from now on:fingerscrossed: !!(lol)
Tried expressing with an electric pump over the weekend and it hurts and I did not get much milk out anyway- about 2 oz. I have been expressing at the end of every feed which is what i was told to do- any other tips? I go back to work in term 2 (only 3 days a week) and only wanted to use breast milk, but I said to Dh last night that I might need to use formula. Bridget will be about 14 weeks old when I do go back, starting to freak out about it though!
Liesa- :fingerscrossed: Your little girl will start putting on weight soon, I had similar problems with DD1- it is upsetting, but at least you are aware of this and you are focussing on getting it all on track.
:hugs: go out to Acacia- I hope you start feeling better soon. I know routines are good to have- but babies are different from one day to the next- maybe just focus on happy days with Tom not setting him a routine and that may just follow as you learn to get use to each other. (Just a thought!)- Dont forget too that you need your rest and it is important to get it if us mums are to cope with our little ones at all!
Hope you are all well this week, my god February seems to be flying by!

Just wanted to stop in and say hi and congratulations to everyone! I know I'm a little late, the last time I was here I was complaining my baby would never come and my labor started that night! Have had a rocky start with my gorgeous boy and now he's a month old (hard to believe) he's being kind enough to have a sleep so I can get on bub hub again! I haven't had time to read everything yet!
I wish I'd had time to get on the computer a couple of weeks ago, I was having breast feeding trouble, not enough milk I think... No one (not the dr or the midwives or the health nurses) told me there was medication to help your supply! He was getting frustrated, I was crying all the time. We were topping him up with formula but it seemed to be getting worse. I ended up putting him on formula. It was such a hard decision and I still feel so guilty.:crying: He and I are much happier and less stressed... I just can't get past thinking I gave up, and he's not getting the best. From now on I'll make sure I have time to ask the bub hubbers advice! If I'd read what Leisa had to say earlier things might have been different.
He's awake again... I might be back later!! Hopefully in under a month anyway!!
hello all,
I read the posts last night and now can't remember what issues were raised so sorry, no personals today. I do agree about the routing thing though. We've got a routine laid out but I'm trying not to stress when we stray from it - especially on the weekend. Obviously its there as a guide only (bubs can't read the clock for one thing) but its really hard not to feel like you're not doing the right thing when it all goes pear shaped! I'm much lessed stressed than the first weekend anyway but just desperate to get Hamish to sleep during the day. He's lucky to manage 45mins or maybe an hour at a time when he's supposed to be having 3 two hour sleeps! Sometimes it takes nearly an hour to get him to sleep as well. On the up side, he was pretty happy most of yesterday and just lovely so it can't be all bad. At least he sleeps well at night.
On the BF front, I still worry about my supply too. I was told to express 10 mins each side 3 or 4 times a day and within an hour after a feed. It takes up so much time though, I'm not that good at it. We've been having a formula top up at night if we need it.
:hugs: to those feeling sad, frustrated or confused at the moment - its such a rollercoaster isn't it?
aaah, H is awake after only an hour's sleep :banghead: !!

there's just so any new posts to read thesse days, by the time I read them , i have no time 2 reply!
u can always tell a post where someone is holding bub - this is one of them!!
re: routines. it's funny that Caitlin always wakes up at the dot of 6, 9, 12 and 3 .. even if she's just had a feed 90 mins earlier. i think i've really got gher body clock working. really annoyng when you want to go out and her feed to not land smack bang in the middel of the outing.
does anyone have anything for cradle cap?? she only has a bit ovr her eyebrow.. olive oil worked a bit but i'm not sure that's ok to keep putting on.
looks like i might have an infection/retained placenta or something. i'll spare u all the details - TMI!! have to go for a scan :( stupid.
caitlins a bit frustrated i'm not giving her any attention so'd better go have as play.. hope you're all having fun with your bubs!
Yep I'll agree about the routine bit to all. Sometimes it seems like its there and othertimes all to pieces. Our bubs do it, but I reckon we do it too, ie if they're sleeping longer in the morning we don't wake them!! am happy for some flexibility. HA, she writes that in the morning, when all is happy:laughing:
I had to lie down last night while rocking cot, too high to pat, while Hunter was making those 'fuff fuff fuff' sounds and swinging his arms and legs..yes the unswaddly houdini.
I did read a bit of 'raising newborns' site yesterday about bubs who hadn't been sleeping for long during the day and wanting to be held (H yesterday). Nice wise advice saying 'they're just tiny babies and does it matter so much if we do have them close'.
It does feel like an unworkable-forever at the time, I know, but they are getting bigger every day!
Waiting4bub great to hear from you! Sorry about yr little boys dfficult first month!
Question abt DPs, do they share feeds now some of the bubs are on formula??
I am also still struggling to find a time to express, within an hr of a feed, heh..after tummy time/settling all I want to do is answer the calls Ive missed or do something 2 handed! Was it Karrina ages ago who said do it on the other boob at the same time? Then I'd have to stop bubhubbing though!!
Freddie, its not the chair (v ordinary ikea..) its the breast-feeding pillow! v ugly thing (present with cutesy sea animals), but gives me one/two hands free. !!
Happy thought for the day:
ps:imagine a boob the size of yr head!! thats pretty much what they all have

Hi Charis,
my dh does maybe one feed in the evening when he's home from work. On the weekend he helped during the day, I still did all the night time feeds, then when Nathaniel woke at 7am for his first 'sun up' feed I woke dh and said "its your turn". He doesn't offer... But the break is nice when I force it on him!

1 month old today and Ariane is 4.68kg now from 3.24 at birth. She woke just once last night but stayed awake for an hour and I'm not used to that as she is normally only 10 minutes and back to sleep. The consequence it seems she is not sleeping much today at all, just catnapping but it could be the heat instead.
I've had my discharge appointment with our midwife too and all is well. I'll go back at 6 weeks for my pap smear.
Charis I love that advise, it's really such a short period of their lives and our lives. Cherish having them close now.

Hi everyone
Hi waitingforbub, congratulations! sorry to hear bout your b/f dramas. I sympathise with you, Im battling on with it atm, with minimal support as we have no ABA here or lactation consultant, and its hard!
OK ladies, spill the secret on getting these bubs to sleep through!! Jett is 6 weeks and is not really in a solid routine, usually goes dwn newhere btwn 7-9pm, then sleeps 4-5hours, up for one hour and back for 2hrs.
freddie, i agree with you its such a rollercoaster!!! and i think quite often we find ourselves wishing the time away and before we know it they are one year old, but no matter how hard it seems at the time, we tend to look back and think ...'oh it wasnt that bad!!' LOL
As for the posts with bubs on lap, mine is usually the breat pump in one hand and typing with the other !!!!
Thanks for the hugs Liviesmum. Im feeling a lot more human now. I ended up going to a friends birthday dinner last night and had a nice night, then let Tom stay in my bed and he was pretty settled. Waking up to feed reguarly but settling soon after so i was happy with that. Today my mum picked us up and we are visiting her for a few days which is nice. It gives me a break. Im finally on parenting payments too, so thats exciting! I still havent got the family tax benefit or the baby bonus, but im sure it will come soon!
Mum suggested i express milk so she can feed Tom a bit, but i have no idea where to start. How long does the milk keep for etc? Mum also asked when can i give him water? Anyone know about that? I suddenly feel like i know very little!
I hope everyone is well...sorry no personals yet, im trying to get a post in before Tom wakes.

Hi Ladies,
Waiting4bub- Great to hear from you.
Charis - Hubby and I share the feeds. DP loves feeding Talon. Especially when he smiles when feeding.
Mamabearof3 - Great to hear your bub has put on a nice amount of weight in her 1st month.
Cheeki 28 - My hubby is going back to work tonight after 7 weeks off. I'm going to be lost without him. I have to start getting myself into a routine.
Acacia - I was told from the lactation clinic you can store breastmilk up to 48 hours in the fridge( put it at the back of the fridge not in the door). You can also freeze breastmilk aswell. Acacia you can also give thomas water. I give Talon 20mls of boiled water every couple of hours.
As for us. Talon is having his 8 week needles on friday:eek: Not looking forward to that. Talon is still capnapping during the day but i must say it has been hot here aswell. So i can understand why he isn't sleeping for a long period of time. Have started putting him in his cot during the day so he can get use to it. I brought Talon a Fisher price Ocean wonders 'Aquarium'(it plays music and lights up) He loves it. He smiles at it all the time...
Anyway Talon is sleeping on the lounge under the fan, better go and stack the dishwasher and fold up the washing before he decides to wake up.
Have a good evening

hi all, im another one that has been reading but not posting. bubs is on my lap now content with hiccups.
final countdown Clea has almost the same sleeping pattern as Jett and she is 7 weeks...i think that is good for bf babies.he rick with clea is getting herback to sleep at 3am. she decides its a good time to smile at me and wants to play!
we arent really having any issues now. bubs is pretty happy she sleeps, feeds and burps well. some reflux but i make a point of keeping her upright for about an hour after day feeds and at least 10 minutes at night feeds. this seems to work.
i dont know how all the mums with toddlers do it! after feeding, changing, massaging, carrying for an hour, putting her to sleep... then me eating, showering, washing clothes and nappies, cleaning house... then its back to feeding.... where do you fit another child or two???

Hi everyone i have just found this thread and thought i would just pop in and say hi:wave: My little guy is now 5 weeks old and doing well. Although it hasn't been all smooth sailing. At 3 weeks of age he contracted a nasty infection in his lymph gland in his neck and we ended up in hospital for a week. Now i have cracked and very sore nipples, i think this may be due to when he was in hospital he wasn't feeding to well and was pulling on and off alot and probably wasn't reattaching properly. Apart from that he is still putting on heaps of weight and is sleeping well so i shouldn't complain to much.
Anyway enough from me for now, hope mums and bubs are all well. Talk again soon.

welcome lukeandmattsmum!!
dragoonflyblu - good to know someone else on similar path.
I just tried something different tonite and am crossing f ingers that it works, so far so good------! Jett just woke at 1.30am, he stirred a little so i went and heated up a 200ml bottle of EBM , and shoved it straight into his mouth while he was still asleep. He polished it off withhout even opening his eyes. But the trick is now, to hope he doesnt wake with pains in t he tum from not being burped. Or his nappy leak from not being changed.
Does everyone change bubs nappy during night if they wake for feed?
Cheeki28 - just looked at your pics, they are gorgeous! And i loveeee their names. i wouldve considered that for my little man if id heard it !!
Well done b/f twins, you are doing an awesome job!!
Acacia - I was told with the breastmilk, 3 days in the fridge, stored frozen for 3 months. When you defrost just put in a bowl of warm water or let it defrost in fridge over night. Make sure you dont heat breastmilk in the microwave.
Strawberry - really love your little mans name too!! Whats his middle name?
I dont know how you mums with toddlers do it either, hats off to you!! I have a 5 year old and that is hard enough!!!

Yes i change his nappies when he has a night feed.
my man slept though last night. he went to bed about 9.30 after his 9pm feed and slept till 7am:smiliedance:
finalcountdown I was told i was ok to 'dreamfeed'. Hamish usually goes straight back to sleep after the first night feed but not always the second. I try to check his nappy while he's feeding and if it doesn't feel wet then not disturb him by changing it. We have had a couple of minor spillages though recently. I usually change him in the middle of the second feed (between sides) so he is less disturbed. Before that he never needed a change until the morning. The midwife I saw (my marvellous sleep angel) also said you can put a double nappy them to catch the drips!
We had a great day yesterday - took the train to have lunch with DH and a cousin going back to the UK. Hamish slept from the time we left until when we arrived (about and hour), was delightful all during lunch and then fed all the way home!
Off to our six week check up this afternoon so :fingerscrossed: . More later.

My little man is 5 weeks old, its hard to believe hes been around that long its so amazing how they change everyday theres always something different happening. You can never imagine what its going to be like.

Cheeki: what gorgeous pics! your twins are adorable
Acacia: hope things settle for you again :hugs:
I was advised to give water by clinic nurse at 4 weeks as bubs was a little constipated tho, she said 20mils a day. Now Katie has it every arvo regardless.
Strawberry: Yes needles here this week also!

mummymo ... any toys that make noise and are colourful are what are recommended at this age. Babies love noise and lots of visual contrast - but remember they can only see about 30cm in front of them, so bring the toys close up. Joshua loves his kick & play piano from fisher price. We lie him in the cot and turn on the music after he has a nappy change. He is enjoying it more and more each day and now reaches for the piano to touch it.
Had a rotten night. Josh was extremely distressed and wouldn't lie down and wanted to constantly feed yet in the end just 'pretended' he wanted food but wouldn't attach. He ended up screaming for 20 minutes straight which is extremely unlike him. I'd been thinking reflux was possible but then not thinking it was causing too much of a problem. It was clearly reflux last night and a lot worse than preceding days. So, I spoke to his paediatrician this morning and he's on mylanta as a trial for 48 hours. Poor baby, the stuff tastes disgusting, he was VERY unimpressed with his first dose! He settled well after his first dose, so hopefully it will work!
Better go catch some sleep whilst I can, only got 4 hours of interupted sleep last night.
Hi again ladies.
DH went back to work yesterday so have had my first couple of days on my own with a 2 year old and Kelsey. Things went well and I even got them to go for a sleep at the same time and I put my feet up for an hour. Kelsey is going well but has that typical unsettled period in the evening before going to bed around 9.30pm. She is still only waking once or twice and goes back to bed well. She is smiling heaps which has been really cute.
Cordelia - I think olive oil is fine for cradle cap (that is what I used on DS) but the other day at the chemist I saw some stuff on the shelf specifically for cradle cap. Can't remember the name but maybe you could ask the pharmacist????
Charis - I agree that you can't really spoil a baby that is so young. Even though we all are busy and have things to do, their needs are so basic - just to be fed and cuddled and held. They have no concept of time or the fact that we have other demands in our lives.
Hello to Lukeandmattsmum and Mummymo.
Mim - Sorry to read you had a tough night. Hope the mylanta works and you get some rest today.
Cheeki - You sound so organised!!! You are a legend coping with 2 bubs so well.
Finalcountdown - I am also an advocate of the dream feed. If I wake up during the night with very full breasts, I just bring Kelsey into bed and give her a dream feed. Also find that it helps bub sleep longer over night.
Take care everyone.
Also, those ladies who are breastfeeding - I picked up a great book from a second hand book shop called "The womanly art of breastfeeding". Don't know if you can still get it but it is fantastic with lots of tips and stories from newborns through to weaning.
Welcome Luke+Matts Mum and MummyMo, our bubs all share the same birthday :smiliedance:
Sugar, woohoo on that sleep through awesome!!! V cute avatar, do your boys have yr lovely smile too?
Freddie awesome for the train + calm/happy Hamish.
Mim1 wow, yes toys that are colorful and make noise great idea!! At childhealth parents group yesterday we had a lovely librarian come and talk about books, like those nice squshy books, tactile ones.. little 14wk old next to H was absolutely looking at the images!! Great to start reading to them. I'd started, but I think with too old books, clear shapes on white backgrounds good.
Jennasmum v big pity re lost post !!
Oh yes and I also change nappy at intermission between sides at night. ..Must say last night I put him down and could hear one!! didn't pick him up to change as was almost asleep!! Oops negligent mother:smiliedance:
Mim1 was it you who needs to go back to hospital..:hugs: hmm I know you said TMI, maybe I'll pm you, as have either got my AF (whatever that stands for!) after 5weeks!! ? or some drastic effect from running a week 'early'!!
Flicka lovely advice all, what happy dreams our little ones have, mm imagine eating !! and sleeping xx
Happy feeding, playing, sleeping bubs all:wave:
mummymo: I have used a play mat with the overhang toys from about 4 weeks to lay her under for toy stimulation. She has really started hitting them around this last week and hardly takes her eyes off the big bright orange bug one lol
Mim: Hope your getting some more zzz's in and :fingerscrossed: the mylanta does the trick.

Welcome lukeandmattsmum and mummymo.
Finalcountdown!- Talon’s middle name is Riley. We wanted a name that was unusual.
I gave Talon a feed at 2am this morning and master Talon decided that it was play time not sleep time. He was constantly smiling at me. After 2 hrs of smiling and playing in my bed Talon decided to go back to sleep.:yelclap: I’ve finally finished sending out my thank you cards, now its time for me to start planning Talon’s christening or naming ceremony. Not to sure what I’m having but I have planned it for 1st weekend in April.
I picked up Talon’s hand and feet sculpture from Twinkle Toes today and I’m very happy with it. She did a very good job. You can check out Talon's plaque http://i155.photobucket.com/albums/s305/kelleigh75/DCP_3008.jpg. Anyway I better go and try and get this little fella down for a sleep.
Hope mums and bubs are all well.
Talk soon

Welcome LukeandMattsMum and Mummymo
Mim1...Hope things start to improve soon. Yes, you can get/use Losec for babies. DD1 was on it from 4-14 months with reflux. I also think you can get it in liquid form - Omeprazole (check with phamist as I may have my facts wrong). If the mylanta doesn't work, definately try the Losec. Also try settling bub in his tummy for sleep. This used to help DD1.
Acacia...:hugs: hope you're having a better day today.
Freddie...you mentioned Hamish is only sleeping for 45 during the day. Is he showing any signs of reflux? This is what DD1 did and it drove me mad, I could actaully set a timer to her daytime sleep pattern. Does he settle on his back/side or tummy?
Charis...FYI, AF is Aunt Flo.
Hels...hope you are having a great time with your parents
Sugar...00 sounds lots better. TJ is struggling to fit into some of her 000 clothes. I'm going to have to go througyh my boxes of clothes and see what I have in 00.
We've had a couple of half decent nights here. TJ still having problems not settling properly between 6-10pm. Last night she fed at 6, then continued to fiddle and snak until 10 and finally settling. She slept 'til 3.30, so :fingerscrossed: we will be sleeping through in the next few weeks. Don't know how I will go at work if she's not sleeping throguh by the time I'm ready to go back.
Hugs to everyone,
Lisa

Hi
Well i tried the dream feed last night and it worked a treat,he started to stir around 1.30am so i popped a bottle of EBM straight in his mouth without even taking him out of his cradle. He drank the lot and kept on sleeping, so there was no resettling time! This morning when he woke @ 5.30am he had a wet sleeve, mustve had bit of a perk, maybe from not burping, but apart from that it worked a treat!!
Tonite will try it at around ten when i go to bed and see if he will sleep that little bit longer.
Jett had his 6 week check today, he s doing great, weighs 5.65kilos, little chubba!!
Just a note to remember, real little bubbas can be easily overstimulated by lights and colours etc and something as simple as black lines drawn on a peice of paper is enough to stimuate a 6 week old. (advice given to me)
sugar n spice - thats no good about the diareohha. How do they class the runs in bub..(is bubby b/f) I am b/f and the occasional formula, and all my little mans poos are very runny and watery??

Strawberry - What a lovely name! The plaque looks amazing. I really wanted to get one done with the 2ids, but then i realised you had to supply your own pic. I wanted something really professional so would have tto pay for photos on top of cost. What did you do ?

Well i have had a bad day, not so much with bubs but with my two year old throwing tantrums. I feel bad because i am a bit sleep deprived and am probably losing patience with him quicker plus most of my time is taken up with bubby. Does anyone else who has toddlers feel like this?
mummymo and charis the 12 must of been a popular day for giving birth. Were you early, ontime or over due. Did you have natural or c-section. I was four days early and had a very quick natural birth.
Hope everyone has a good nights sleep.

Hi Ladies,
Talon has had a bad night last night. My poor little boy. He’s now sleeping:yelclap: . I’m wondering if anyone can help me. Talon is on Karicare Ar due to his reflux. At the moment he’s became painfully constipated. I was told to give him coloxyl drops at the time. Been on the coloxyl for 2 days now and still constipated. He drinks plenty of water and I’ve also tryed brown sugar. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

all i could suggest is more water. my dr told me to increase the water in milk bottles by 10ml for abot 5 days. it worked by the first feed. im going through diarohhea now though on ar formula. im wondering if i should change to ha ar formula? strange if it's the ar causing it as he has been on it for 6 wks before this

my bubs sounds a lot like yours - she is on the karicare ha ar after breastfeeds due to her lack of weight gain and her reflux. she is usually screaming for hours before her bowel motion - i usually take her in for a hot bath with me ( i do mean quite hot !!) and she relaxes so much i lie her between my legs and she gets to float and kick her legs - - she either does her work just after (once she relaxed so much she did it in the bath (what the  ) - it works a treat - obviously this involves more cleaning on my behalf with the bath and all but it helps her do her work and settles in less than an hour - opposed to several hours ....
someone else i read suggested putting them in a rather hot/ warm bucket as they get to emmerse in the water and relax with their legs kicking - haven't tried this i prefer to bath with her...
good luch with it though - hope bubs settles soon for you ..
as for me - i learnt a lesson yesterday - i have to watch what i eat - ie - no onion - citrus - spicy foods or other heartburn foods... tayla didn't sleep at all yesterday and was up until 3am this morning - the last four days she has been sleeping 8 hours thru the night and now she is just exhuasted - and all i can put it down to is reflux (from my food??) and now she is finally asleep - hoping she will sleep all day so i can :fingerscrossed:
have a great day ladies ..
leisa
Oh Leesha, i really hope you get some sleep today too! You poor thing.
Sounds like everyone is having a bit of a rough patch. I hope babies all settle down soon.
Tom was a terror yesterday. He didnt sleep at all, but luckily he slept well last night and now he is asleep and has been for a few hours. I think he might have been really gassy yesterday. My tunny is hurting a lot today so maybe he was sick yesterday.

Hi Strawberry Shortcake you could try and put a small amount of prune juice in his milk or water it works a treat. You only need about 1ml. Maybe even try 1/2 ml first to see if it works.
Good luck

I was also recommended the prune juice and if b/f then you eat a coouple of prunes too. Not too many though or else that can give bubs a tummy ache.

Thanks Ladies will give the prune juice ago. Have to go grocery shopping today so that will be on my list for sure.

Sounds like quite a few of us had bad days yesterday. Josh was really restless cause of the heat and really drowsy at feed times during the main bit of the day, so my milk was overflowing and he wasn't that interested. Then he was awake from 8pm til nearly 6am. Ok, so he had about 4 powernaps of less than 10 minutes duration in there, but mostly he was awake. He only had one screaming episode, compared with multiple episodes the night before, so I think the mylanta is helping a bit. But for my placid, easy going baby who doesn't cry much at all to be screaming the house down and completely inconsolable for 40 minutes at 4am was a real challenge. Thankfully dh was awake too so we both took turns trying to settle him. He eventually settled with a feed, but I don't think he was hungry cause he'd just been lying down for 15 minutes when the crying started and he'd just had a feed.
dh is sick and became unwell when Josh was screaming last night. we think it might be from some UHT milk he had a couple of days ago. So, at 5am this morning I had my dh with tummy pain and feeling sick all of a sudden and my baby still recovering from his screaming ... ah, the joys of parenthood. Thankfully dh felt better with panadol and a heat pack and is still asleep now, and Josh eventually fell asleep at 5:30am and I was able to sleep til nearly 9am. I had to wake him up then though cause my milk was overflowing. He settled after 1 1/4 hours of being up and now he's sound asleep.
Hi All,
Sorry to hear so many unsettled babies and hope everything rights again soon for yous.
I have noticed that since Katie started sleeping 7-8 hrs at night it has coincided with not much day sleep at all, just 1 hr naps here and there. Which is great as today was the first day I actualy felt like getting up before her as I had had enough sleep.
Mim: Could it be that Josh maybe had the same tummy pains as dad the night before? Maybe it was a tummy bug..Just a thought, hope they are both feeling better soon.
As said Katie seems to be now sleeping through from 9pm - 5am or 8pm - 4am and lots and lots of day wake times to play/cuddle and just watch tv. She loves the tv! even to the point of moving her head to feed and watch at the same time and theres no changing her mind. lol
Shes bored with her bouncer beside me so had better go.

this is just a rejoiceful post.......X slept a whole 5 hour stretch last nite!!! I soooooo needed that! It's amazing how you can feel half human again after even such a small amount of uninterrupted sleep. Had the CHN come over this morning and X has put on half a kilo since leaving hosp!! Is now 4.6kilos, so that would explain his constant feeding episodes in the afternoon.....he seriously just wants to feed from 3pm to 10pm!! it's insane, but has to be done i guess as hes such a big boy.
We are having a "meet the baby" thingo tonite for a few hours, I wasn't really ready for anything like that, but of course MIL is organizing it all:rolleyes: , and well if she's doing the clean up etc, then whatever!!! kinda bittersweet though as my mum is leaving tonite to go back to Canada after 4 weeks here, will miss her terribly, and i'm horrible at goodbyes:gloomy: luckily DF doesnt have to return to work until mon. now, was meant to be tomorrow, but that would've been far too depressing.......anyway must go.......hope all lovely mums and bubs are having a peaceful day!!!
hi all
thanks for the suggestion that Hamish might have reflux (finalcountdown? sorry I can't remember who said it!). My theory is he is still a bit hungry as yesterday I topped him up mid morning and he slept for just over 2 hours from 12 to 2.15! Today he's been in bed for an hour but waking frequently although its easy to settle him back to sleep it doesn't do much for my mid day napping!
We got the all clear from our 6 week check up yesterday. I can't believe how fast it has all gone. Sorry to hear lots of you are having sleeping and other troubles. :fingerscrossed: they are sorted soon.
We had a sad day yesterday as my mum lost her 11 year old poodle to cancer with very little warning, a double whammy as it is only 2 months after she lost her husband to cancer as well - bizarrely both had spread to the liver. I look at little Hamish and really appreciate how precious and short life is.

At the moment he’s became painfully constipated. I was told to give him coloxyl drops at the time. Been on the coloxyl for 2 days now and still constipated. He drinks plenty of water and I’ve also tryed brown sugar. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

My little boy was constipated, it was so awful watching his little face in pain! Brown sugar didn't work for him either. My Mum's naturopath recommended 'Brauer Stomach Calm'. It doesn't have a dosage for under 6 months but she said he'd be fine with a couple of drops and it worked really well for him. Lots of poo's now!! Brauer makes a lot of different homeopathic (sp?) things for babies available at the chemist. Talk to the chemist about the dosage.
It's just taken me over half an hour to read all the posts! It sounds like every is travelling along well - i cross my fingers and knock wood everytime people talk about reflux and colic etc.... No signs of either in Audrey!
She has settled down well during the day - she's being more active and alert which is good - its nice to start feeling some interaction - shes nearly smiling - its so close!
Someone asked about getting off the nipple shields - finalcountdown! i think. All i did was to start the feed with them on, feed a bit and then after a nappy change, or wriggle when she popped off, continue without. I only did a minute or two with them off initially and then built up to longer until now when she is entirely off them.
I'm still struggling with my supply though - I'd love to know what people are taking to increase. Both the paediatrician and obstetrician recommended fenugreek tablets (it's a herb used in curry!!!) I just got them from the health food shop - only been taking them a day so will wait and see if it works!
Both ob and paed 6 week visits were good - no problems with either. I'd love to know how people are going with the 2 month immunisations!!!! My sil says I should give Audrey a dose of panadol before she goes???? Does this work???
Lots of sleepy thoughts to all babies who are still a bit unsettled. Audrey is in a really good routine now with feed bath cuddle with dad sleep. She wakes up at 2:00am on the dot feeds for 30mins and then straight back to sleep until 6am. She often wakes a bit earlier near 5am but will just lie and look at her mobile or come into bed for a cuddle! I refuse to feed her until 6am! It's the only one I'm strict about - all other feeds whenever.
Hope everyone is going well!

Cate - my dr said not to give panadol unless they need it and i didnt need to give ashton any at all. Completely up to you though.
kewlchicmum - you have come to the right place, welcome to the hub
Cate: Im having the panadol handy if needed after but not giving beforehand, personally I dont think it makes a difference at needle time. Its over with rather fast and any affects ( if any ) from it wont come till later, thats when I grab the panadol if needed. Hope that makes sense ....
we are going friday for Katies :crying:

Hi everyone,
I have managed to grab a few minutes to hop on here and write a post. It's been great having my parents here, mum is really good with bubs and she is busy cooking our dinner at the moment :hugs:
I am still having feeding issues. I got sick of expressing as it would take 45 mins to feed, change and settle bubs. Then I would have to give him to DH or my mum so I could go and express, which would take another 45 mins. It was depressing me as I was missing out on being with him. Sometimes the best moments are after they are fed and are sleepy and content and just want some cuddles.
Now I have re-introduced him back to the breast and he is doing ok. I have been giving him formula top ups aswell and I have also bought some pigeon peristaltic teats for his formula bottles which are heaps better (they fit the Avent bottles too). He has less wind and latches onto me better now when BF. I just need to work on getting the balance right. I have plenty of milk so I feel guilty about taking him off breast milk. But I don't think it is enough for him, so he seems to scream alot in hunger.
Any suggestions?
Lukeandmattsmum - I know what you mean about 2 year old toddler tantrums. My DS seems to know when to be demanding (like when I am feeding) and he also knows when to throw one (in the shops when my arms are full of baby and groceries). Any chance someone could give you a few hours without your toddler so you can have a break? Mine goes to daycare 2 days a week to give both him and I a break from each other and so he can play with some other kids. Don't feel guilty though - we all lose our patience with them. Some days I also say to my Dh that I feel like all i have done is grumble at DS. On those days I just try and make an effort to praise him for the little things ("You are playing cars very nicely - what a good boy etc). It is so easy to notice them misbehaving but much harder to notice them being good don't you think?
Well, we have had a very tiresome day. Kelsey had her 6 week check up today and the doc was taking a while and I gave Dh a look of "what the heck is going on?" and then the doc says Kelsey has a heart murmur and he thinks she has a hole in her heart. As you can imagine I just broke down and imagined open heart surgery or her dying or something. Doc was great and sent us for an ECG (ultrsound of heart). That was very nerve wracking and she cried the whole time. Turns out after a very long day that she has a small hole in her heart and has to see the specialist doc next time she is in town. Long term they are hoping the hole closes on its own otherwise she may have to have surgery later on (like about 3 years old). Anyway, they said she is healthy and it isn't affecting her at the moment and we should treat her normally but it is hard not to worry. I feel like all I have done is cry all day!!!
Sorry for the long post and thanks for listening.
:)
That about says it all!! First smiles just now on waking to his Dad, who fortuitously arrived just after H had a 2.5hr arvo sleep!! WOW.
Now I feel human + he obviously does too! (day settles after 2nd playtime yawn have been awful recently) In the last settle before this mammoth daytime sleep I could understand why a person with a petrol sniffing addiction could give their bub a wiff! S'ok I was never about to!!

KwelChic welcome!! Another WA girl woohoo. How's yr bub going?
Sugar hope yr having a lovely time now yr at cocktail party.
Freddie v sorry to hear about yr Mums dog. V sad time for her, these last 2 months.Very precious life, yes! Great she has you+Hamish.

mim1 my heart goes out to you. That is such a hard night and you still got on here. Maybe pursue a sleep angel, like Freddie+DP used.. Ngala in Perth have wonderful such consultants, hmm can't remember what state you are. Last resort is getting in car and driving safely then you park with windows a bit open and all sleep. I haven't done this yet. Nights are ok..days are the hard ones, usually here.
How do you know if yr milk supply is dwindling or low??
Oh yes and yes AF (thanks mousebrown for abbrev!) is officially here 5.5wks:eek:

HI everyone
Havent posted in a while, been really busy and very tired. Its hard keeping up with 3 girls and all the housework lol. Starting to feel a bit run down, had a bit of a sore throat and sniffles this morning so hoping it doesnt turn into anything. DH doesnt do any of the nighttime feeds, so that doesnt help really. Sorry for the winge.
Sierra had her 4 weeks review with the health nurse last thursday and she is 3.8kg so gain about 700gm in 4 weeks. The nurse said that was ok and it was pretty average. She has grown 4cm in 4 weeks though so she was really happy about that.
Its been very hot and humid in Melbourne... really awful lol. Sierra has coped pretty well with it though, been a little grizzly but not too bad. She seems to be pretty unsettled on the days i take DD1&2 to kinder. Probably cause we are in and out of the car so much and she just wants to sleep and be left alone.
Should probably try to get some sleep while i can... sorry no personals tonight, just a quick post to catch up.
Hope you are all doing well, take care

A good couple of days, Bridget has been behaving so that is fantastic. It has allowed me to have a 'Prison Break' Marathon over the past few days- trying to catch up- watching season 1 and half way through season 2!!:smiliedance:
Just wondering... Do all your babies seem to have very white tongues ATM? I mean all the time even when they havent just fed? I was told they dont produce saliva glands til later so the tongue doesnt get cleaned properly like salive does to ours.
Freddie- Question: How on earth do you feed and change at the same time? A special talent no doubt!
Strawberry Shortcake: What a beautiful plaque, well done looks fantastic!

Welcome Kewlchic!
Sugar you were asking about Mylanta. DD1 had reflux pretty bad.She was not only on the AR formula but also had to have infant gaviscon in every bottle. This was to help keep the milk down and settle heart burn because reflux causes pretty bad heart burn- I am assuming the Mylanta is the same.
Stay well all!

Flicka - how stressful for you :/ How long do you have to wait for the specialist? Let's hope the hole closes on it's own.
Welcome kewlchicmum :) Stay with us!! Did you have a girl/boy?? Name?? Sorry I'm a bit of a sticky beak!!
Hels - hope te bf is going well. Sorry about the screaming :/ Are you sure it's hunger? Maybe it's wind - Caitlin quite often screams after a feed due to reflux and wind. It's quite distressing because i'm not sure whether she wants more and I try to force it on her which makes it worse!
liviesmum: I don't know about white tongues sorry! caitlin won't let me in for a look! :P
The in'laws 'have arrived'. I'm already annoyed with all the stupid oold fashioned advice and the inference i don;t know what I'm doing all the time.. and SHE keeps snatching "her baby" off me without even asking. Keeos going on how DH is a great dad - I mean hello! He is of course... but all this encouraging him for changing a nappy and being so dismissive of me. And the rubbish they've brought with them. I really don't want a house full of junky toys. She's making a metre long dog that "cost $120 just for the fur" and has asked a friend to make a rocking horse for "her".. she doeasn't have to keep all this rubbisdh at her house. grrrr 5 sleeps to go...
Oh dear! that was a long ramble - sorry!!!

Oh Cordelia you are so funny, you sound like me! How far away do your inlaws live and how often do you see them?
Question: why dont you heat breast milk in the microwave?

kewlchicmum welcome and congratulations. tell us all about your new bub.
liviesmum clea has a white tongue all the time. bf babies tend to always have milky tongues. i checked it with the doc just in case it is thrush, but she said it is normal.
Flicka, hope all goes well with bubs. My cousin has a hole in her heart and it hasnt made her sick or resricted her in any way. heres a big :hugs:
Clea had reflux last night for the first time. poor little thing kept projectile vomiting her milk. we massaged her little belly with some calming oils and gave her a deep bath. she settled down at about 11.30, she had a feed and feel asleep, thankfully keeping her milk down! then today she did another vomit after a feed. i am going to keepo her upright as much as possible today. she isnt crying but wants lots of cuddles, hope it settles soon. i am assuming it is just a stage she is going through. she is also starting to dribble alot of spit so i guess her body is changing again.
poor little things, its hard being a baby with all this reflux and wind and nappy rash.... and to think its just started, they are yet to become toddlers and crawl - and fall over:eek:
liviesmum: I was told at the hospital to never microwave for bubs as it continues to heat up for ages after removal and too risky to burn her mouth.
Flicka: Hope all goes well too :hugs:
Dragonflyblu: awww poor bub, hope that its a passing phase and things settle back to normal fast
Cordelia: :hugs: to you !! im sure youll need it by the time its over lol. Am lucky mine live over an hr away as I know she would be here every day otherwise, shes lovely but only in small doses as a bit overpowering otherwise. Once she even woke Katie for a hold ( was asleep on the lounge ) and I can tell you DP heard all about it after, poor guy lol . Now I hide her in the bedroom when asleep if they are coming and have told her outright she has to wait as its me who has to deal with a cranky girl later..Ive never been one to sugar coat words :D
Another good one here, feel confident enough to say we have a great established routine now, last 4 nights = 7-8 hr stretches..tho last night she woke at 12 am for a top up of 40mils then promptly dozed off in my arms, back to bed and next things I know its 630am. Bliss!
xx
Thanks to Charis, Lukeandmattsmum, liviesmum, cordelia and dragonflyblu for your kind words and support. After the inital shock I am feeling heaps better today. Apparently about 1 in 100 babies are born with a small hole and in 90% of cases they close up in the first year. And as the doc said, she is so healthy otherwise - putting on weight and developing that it obviousky isn't affecting her.
Cordelia - Totally know what you are saying about your inlaws and the rubbishy toys. Mine are the same and when they give the kids a bunch of rubbish, DH goes over the top to thank them. My MIL also thinks she knows best and I let her push me around a bit when our DS was a baby but not this time. But, in saying that I try to bite my tongue as much as possible for DH's sake.
Hels - I agree with Cordelia that the crying might be wind. A friend explained it like this - babies have such small tummy's and when they get wind it is like a ball that fills their stomach. Then they cry and we try to feed them and every feed the ball of wind gets bigger and bigger until their whole tummy is wind and they can't fit in any milk yet they are hungry so they cry .......and the cycle just goes on. Maybe you could just take 10-15 mins to really try and get some wind up - maybe expect more than just one burp before feeding again. Honestly, this was a lifesaver when my DS was a bub and it semed to work. Also, can't remember the wise mummy who said about the warm nappy around their middle. Love that idea:thumbsup: .
Lukeandmattsmum - So glad you got a break. I bet you feel human now!!! And hope you got a good nights sleep. I have just had a stand off with DS who didn't want to go for a nap. Up until 5 mins ago he was yelling out "Mummy come here"!!!! I think I won though cos it is quiet!
Well, off to put my feet up as the rugrats are asleep. Take care.
Missed your post Tabby - thanks for the kind thoughts!
liviesmum - I had to go and look at what I wrote! I mean I check his nappy while feeding and not change him if i don't have to as this would disturb him...if that makes sense.
anyway, we decided 4.00am was play time last night and only got back to sleep by 5am and only for an hour so i'm a bit tired to say the least, especially as Hamish only slept 3 1/2 hours to start when usually its at least 4 1/2 or up to 6 on the odd marvellous occasion. The whole day has been thrown and he's really overtired so we're having a mid day sleep battle as I write. He's been in bed for an hour but only quiet for the last 5-10 mins. I'd best make the most of it and try for a nap - with heat pack to soothe a rather large and painful blocked duct that seemed to emerge between going to sleep at 5am and waking again just after 6...
kx
ps we've got our immunisations next Thursday morning - what sort of reaction do they have afterwards? Its also the first day of our parenting class so hopefully he'll be ok.
Freddie: Not all bubs even get a reaction, A little sore at the injection site for a day or 2 is all hopefully
With both sons they never really had any except the sore spot and ds1 had a mild temperature , have some panadol handy just incase :D as all babies react differently. You may find bubs is a little unsettled/ grizzly the first night also
Ill let you know how Katie goes after tomorrows :(

Sorry no personals today, I am siting here expressing and typing one handed lol.
We had our 4 weeks appt with the mat health nurse today and Reece has gained over 400g in 1 week :smiliedance: he is now 8lbs 2oz, last week he was 7lbs 4oz.
We also taked about the feeding issues and things change by the day here lol.
I am now weaning him off the breast milk and onto formula. Unfortunately my milk is just like water to him and he was always screaming for more. Today he has been just on formula and he is like a different baby. Last night he had a huge feed of 170mls and then slept from 11pm to 5am. He brings up his wind really well and is actually calm between feeds now, we have been able to have some playtime and cuddles again. Prior to today he would always be screaming, shaking his head frantically and opening his mouth against anyone's chest looking for boobie (including DH).
My only problem now is trying to lose my milk. I managed to leak all down the front of my Tshirt today and that was through both a breast pad and a cabbage leaf
I am too scarred to go out over the next few days incase it happens in public lol
hels ... at least you've made a decision about feeding. I know it must be hard to give up on breast feeding, but at least you can relax now that the decision is made. Your milk will dry up quickly, don't worry.
Josh is SO much better, it's amazing. He's drinking so much less milk - shorter feeds and much longer gaps between feeds. He doesn't demand top-ups 1/2 hour to an hour after finishing a feed either. I've had to express multiple times in the last day just for comfort! But, most importantly he slept last night!!! YEAH! Yes, he slept from 10pm til 2:15am (my need to feed woke me at 1:30am though!!), fed, took his mylanta and went straight to sleep. He then woke at 6am, same routine and woke again a 9am. He woke up to 'play' at 11am and after being awake for 1 1/4 hours put himself back to sleep whilst in the bouncer! Wow! That has never happened! It's like I've got a new baby!
The mylanta is a treatment for reflux. The treatment starts with mylanta, then progresses to zantac, then to losec ... each is more effective, but if the zantac works he won't need losec. So, given that the mylanta trial worked he is going to start zantac tonight and he'll come off the mylanta in 2 days. I'm SO happy! I feel like a new woman with all this sleep overnight and all this extra free time during the day. Feeds now take 1/2 hour, instead of taking 1 1/2 hours of stuffing around trying to work out if he needs more milk or not.
Sorry for no personals, I really should go and get the zantac script and get to the chemist! dh is feeling better, so he's minding Josh for me whilst he does some work.
Hels/Mim
It does take us a while to work out what works and what doesn't but when it all comes together doesn't it feel great? so glad to see your both have much happier babies. Heres to lots of happy playtime and great sleeps!
Hels: I got told when giving up the breast that if leakage is a problem to cut sanitary pads in half and if your like me you probably have heaps left over? not very flattering I know  but may help while at home at least.
I love this time in a babies life, so much joy! They expressions, the learning, the laughter, everything! all begins now in leaps and bounds.
Katie had everyones attention today while in a queue, she was looking over my shoulder while in a pretty pink dress and having found her voice she was letting herself be known to the amusement and ooh ahhs of all the ladies there lol
Think its mummy nap time, wish me luck....anyone else have the problem I have, the nap I decide to take is always the one and only nap where she wakes and unsettles? no matter when I choose lol

5 pages back just to catch up so apologies to who I miss out
Acacia how long have you been waiting for your baby bonus. Ours came through fairly quickly (10 days) but I’ve been told that’s because we are already in the system and first baby’s take up to 28 days to be processed. Did you get your information about expressing?
Dragonflyblu mums with older children do things differently ie no cleaning and I wear ariane to get washing done and I don’t always get to shower ha ha ha
Welcome like and mattsmum
Finalcountdown I don’t change nappies at night if she is in a bamboo and I can’t smell poop, but Ariane rarely poops at night anymore. Wow Jett is a chubbabubba I thought Ariane was at 4.68kg
Mummymo we just got Ariane the most beautiful wooden baby gym so that’s for playtime now but we also read during playtime too, up until now it’s juts been our faces that’s playtime enough.
Mim hope the mylanyta is helping, I’ve suggested to others chiropractic and or cranial osteopathy it worked a treat for us with alexander
Flicka I loved that book a few years ago. Another great one is “the natural way to better breastfeeding” by Francesca Naish and Jeannette Roberts. It’s the follow on from the better babie, better pregnancy, better birth one’s
Mousebrown we’ve been getting cluster feeding during that time sometimes too and then a long sleep, last night we got 7 hours sleep after 3 hours of cluster feeding. My early childhood nurse suggested getting dh to take over the settling rather than feeding again because they are usually just overtired rather than hungry and we’ve done that and it worked really well, but I let her cluster feed when I know she didn’t feed well throughout the day like yesterday.
Ariesmoon hope the meet the baby thing went well for you
Cate are you taking enough fenugreek. It should be 9 capsules a day (3x3) and it takes about 3 days to see a difference in my experience
Kewlchicmum looks like you are in the right place
Hels thanks for saying the peristaltic teats fit the avent I need new teats and have avent bottles still from last time. I need something for the occasional bottle for dh to give Ariane. Have you tried to trigger another let down when you are breastfeeding to help get a top up for him without formula. Here’s how to do it. While dh is burping or if you can rest baby next to you on a pillow massage the breast tissue, then roll one nipple between your fingers and as the let down begins reattach baby to the breast. Or while baby is slowly feeding on one side roll the other nipple between your fingers until it triggers a let down. Works just the same as a top up!
Charis I only know milk supply is low or dwindling if baby appears more hungry or wakes more often between feeds but others will know from low or no weight gain (although babies do have growth spurts so may gain nothing for a couple of weeks and then gain a lot in a couple of days)
Georgia great weight gains for Sierra
Liviesmum yep white tongue here too, yes I was also told not much saliva is produced yet too, some but not much and then when it does start working properly is when they are drooling heaps and this is not a sign of teething just a sign that the glands are producing a lot more and they haven’t learnt to swallow saliva like everyone else does routinely without even noticing.
Don’t heat breastmilk in the microwave as it kills off some of the goodies in breastmilk (antibodies and good bacteria etc)
Cordelia good luck with the in laws I’d die if mine had to stay with us.
Tabby enjoy the routine, I always found the routine would change as soon as I verbalised that we had it with a time. I tend to refer to routine as a way of doing things rather than with a timeframe attached. ie feed then play then sleep and then start over (replace play with bathtime at some point in the day)
Freddie both my boys have had reactions to their needles so after my first we delay vaccinations and only give one needle at a time for the one’s we do (we don’t do all the vaccinations) and Ariane will get the same. My 4.5 year old just had his 4 yo needles a few weeks ago and got a temp of 40 degrees 7 days after the vac. Most common time for a reaction is 5-10 days after the needle and first couple of days it’s often swelling at the injection site
Hels have you seen lilypadz. They are silicon breastpads and they work brilliantly at containing leaks. Mothersdirect.com.au and babybeehinds.com.au both sell them. After you finish breastfeeding you can still use them instead of a t-shirt bra.
Yep Tabby as soon as I even contemplate nap time is when Ariane will be unsettled.

After that mammoth effort I forgot to say how things are going for us!!
Pretty good, I'm getting organised for Ariane's christening next weekend, just need to get to the jewellers to get her initial charm onto her bracelet beforehand. My grandmother gave her the bracelet and my great aunt grandma's sister now deceased) gave me an A for my 21st and I've never used it so it would be special for my grandmother to see Ariane wearing it.
Anyone have any ideas on how to convince my boys not to pick up Ariane everytime she makes a noise and opens her eyes? she will go back to sleep sometimes if they keep their hands off her. I can't seem to get that message across to them.
anyone got any tips on trimming the nails?
Katie has quite a strong will already and its quite a fight to hold her still.
Ive tried when shes asleep and she just stirs too much, so hard to keep her hand still while trying to do it awake.
I was right about choosing the wrong nap time again for me to nap as well lol ah well, shes bathed/fed and settled for what i hope is the 5th night of 7+ hrs in a row so am off for a early one too
hope everyone gets a good night xxx

Wow mamabear that was a post to put anyone to shame!!
Sorry but i cant match that one, im fighting to keep my eyes open and expressing with one hand.
Feeling a bit discouraged with everyone having these great routines, we are all over the place atm.
The last 4 nights weve had hours of screaming due to wind. Despite constant burping him, using infants friend also, at around the same time every night he starts. Ive managed to get the screaming down from 5 hours to 1-2 just with massage, hot water bottle etc.
He has reflux and is on zantac.I am b/f but having a few dramas with it, him refusing breast some feeds, feeding constantly etc, so started giving him some formula feeds. Put him on the A/R but no matter what size teat he d either choke on the large or scream with frustration with the others as he couldnt get it fast enough, plus became bound up & constipated despite giving him prune juice.
So have started back on normal formula
. He doesnt seem to fussed on it, & seems to have tummy troubles but when he has a bottle of ebm he is fine. Prob is i just cant keep up with the expressing.
I was in tears tonight seeing him in sooo much pain, just felt so helpless.
My husband seems to think im 'stuffing his guts up' by giving him formula & b/f??????????????
Oh and to top it off the 'dream feed' didnt work last night as it did the night before, gave him dreamfeed at 11pm both nights, the first he slept till 4am , then last night just till 2.30am.
I also find if he does sleep a 4-5 hour stretch he wakes up frantically hungry and is impossible to feed as he cant get it fast enough so he just screams, anyone else have this problem or is my little man just a piggy??
Anyway, sorry no personals, and for the big whinge, just had a bad evening, & it seems like everyone else can get their bubs into a routine, sometimes i wonder what im doing wrong??:(

FINALCOUNTDOWN don't stress yourself out about not being in a routine yet my guy isn't either. We have actually changed from being a good sleeper at night to terrible. From day one Matt was sleeping about 5 hours straight at night would wake, feed and then straight back to bed. Now i'm lucky if i get 2-3 hrs sleep he then wakes feeds dozes off i put him down and he wakes again. We usually are up for a couple of hours, while he thinks it is play time. Sometimes he thinks because he is awake he has to eat, yet when i put him on the boob he sucks for a few minutes then goes off to sleep, i think he uses me as a bit of a dummy which i wouldn't mind so much if he stayed asleep when he came off. Man this is difficult.
Anyway sorry this ended up a bit of a whinge instead of trying to help you out.
Hope everyone else is keeping well.

Hi all, I have been so busy so i have had three pages to catch up on, sorry but i skimmed alot of it. Ashton is becoming a good sleeper but i hate how my kids run around screaming in the arvo and keep waking him up:banghead: They dont do it on purpose but still its frustrating.
I went to the cocktail party last night and the waiter kept topping up my glass so i was quite well um you get the picture kinda above tipsy but not wasted:laughing:. nice change and mum baby sat luckily the party was down the rd so we walked. I dont know how im going to cope on saturday at my sister house. One drink and im tipsy. The hens night will be cocktail party from 4pm - 7pm followed by dinner at the pub and then night clubbing but i think i will have to skip that. i dont think id be able to hold myself up that long as im not use to drinking very often, so when i do it goes straight to my head:rolleyes:
Hels and other im sorry to hear some of you have windy babies. They grow out of it by about 3mnth and should def by 6mnths when they start to support themsleves.
Well im off to bed so look after yourselves and i will try and post tomorrow.

anyone got any tips on trimming the nails?
Katie has quite a strong will already and its quite a fight to hold her still.
Ive tried when shes asleep and she just stirs too much, so hard to keep her hand still while trying to do it awake.
I did Reece's with baby clippers but couldn't get them very short. Next time I used a pair of nail scissors and got them real short, then used a small soft nail file on the edges.
I found the best time is during a feed.
Feeling a bit discouraged with everyone having these great routines, we are all over the place atm.

Sorry to hear all this, I can understand you frustration.
The only things I can suggest are the pigeon peristaltic teats, I just love them.
Also try to cluster feed before bed maybe?

Well what a c#@p night i have had. Matthew has been up since 1:30am and it feels like he hasn't been off the boob. I gave him a bottle of ebm at 11:30pm, of 120mls which he struggled to finish, in the hope he might sleep a little longer, obviously that didnt work.
Today i have my six week checkup and i have to get a bloody pap smear. I am so not in the mood for it, but i know i have to get it.
I so think i will go insane soon if i don't get a proper nights sleep.
Anyway enough whinging from me for now .
Finalcountdown: sorry to hear your feeling so discouraged. With ds2 I had the same trouble as you and I know how hard it can be.He was so hard and I feel for you. :hugs:
Ive just been very very lucky with Katie this time round.
Like Hels suggests, maybe try the teat she said, even with katie in the first few weeks I had to try numerous teats and bottles to get one which suited her, same problem as you, excess wind, choking because it was too fast etc. Finally got an avent bottle and teat that works, it says on the bottle and teat that they help colic. So with that has come a more settle and happier baby for me, Hope that helps somewhat and your feeling better soon :hugs:
Lukeandmattsmum: Hope Matthew settles better for you tonight so you can get some much needed sleep!
sugar: glad to see you had a good time! and hope you have a great time saturday as well.
I was looking forward to a night out soon but with dp not working thats now a no.
Hels: I do have little baby scissors in the kit too so ill use them, I did use the clippers last week but like you said they wernt short enough. Ill get dp to feed her today while I do it, thanx!
Its needle day !!! I dread this part so much!
Well i just read through all the posts and now i can hear my lil man stirring, so a quick one...
I bite Koby's fingernails, haven't tried the nail clippers.
He seems to want to be awake quite a bit throughout the day, it's kind of frustrating coz you read they should sleep "so much" so i find myself trying to get him to sleep half the day as he seems tired...tired signs, yawning...yet he's awake within 10 minutes.
Sugar i know what you mean about your kids waking up baby. Jenna just does not understand how to be quiet, or she does and she just continues to be loud to test me!
Koby has got really bad milk spots. It looks likes bad acne all over his face, poor bubs, makes hime look awful, :fingerscrossed: they clear up soon.
Better go, he's getting restless...

Hey everyone,
Thanks for your support....sometimes i feel better just knowing others out there are understanding what im going through!!
Lukeandmattsmum - thanks for that, im glad im not the only one! I understand about the whole falling asleep thing! We had a c**p night last night too. Firstly he screamed from 7pm till 10pm with wind, then he was sooo tired he wouldnt feed. Went to sleep and i tried the dream feed at 11pm, he drank 50mls then refused and went bak to sleep. Woke at 2am and from then on it was feed for 10 mins on the boob, sleep for 20, feed for 10....i was soo tired i kept passing out too!! I had a shocker of a time with my first bub, reflux, non sleeper etc etc, was praying for an easy one this time! Good luck with the papsmear. I didnt worry about going to my 6 week check as feeling great and he charges me $85 to say 'yep your fine' but i did forget about the whole pap smear thing...hmm i guess i ll have to do that
Just looking at your familys DOB, you are exactly 0ne month older than me, and your hubby is same age as mine! I keep trying to remind myself that all this wont last forever, but on the same token i want to ENJOY every day with him!!??
Tabby & Hels - Thanks for your thoughts and advice, we are off to Rocky today so will try and get some of those teats and try him on those. Am going to totally change formula too, Ive been using that Heinz Nurture, but am going to give the S26 a go. Im really at a loss though as to whether what we are going through every night is wind or reflux!?? Or maybe a bit of both!!! I guess with bubs its always a process of elimination isnt it!
I bite Jetts fingernails while feeding him, i feel bit safer, im scared i ll cut him other wise!
Tabby - good luck with needles, ive got a week to go!!
jennasmum - I thought jett had milk spots too, and i asked the peadtrician and she told me he had blocked sweat glands and that they sort themselves out after couple weeks !!??????
Sugar - Good too hear you had a nice night. Isnt it amazing how you can feel human again, just getting out for a little while!!?
Well, im meant to be packing while Jett is asleep. We are heading into rocky today (3hr drive) for the weekend so that hubbys family can spend some time with bub. Whilst i cant wait to show him off, im not looking forward to them constantly hogging him, rocking and patting him for hours and hours when he sleeps..and all the advice that makes me feel like i must be totally incompetant!! I was looking forward to b/f while i was there as that gave me a reason to take him off them for a while, and stopped them from being able to take him visting and doing the rounds as he d need me for a feed. But the little bugger has been refusing the boob for 2 days now....so i guess when they see him having bottles i cant use that excuse!! Man....i nlaws!!! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend....
Back on monday !!

Well I had a terrible first half of the night too last night so I do sympathise lukeand mattsmum! You know what its like feeling tired with a screaming baby...and boy oh boy did Bridget scream.:devil6:
Tabby- funny thing is the other night I had run out of breast pads and needed to change mine desperately but was too late to go out to Coles so i Got a sanitary pad choped in in half and use it... It worked a treat!:yelclap:
Someone was asking about cradle cap last week- here is some info I found:
If your baby develops a yellow, hard crust on his or her scalp, don't worry - this is called cradle cap and it's very common. If your baby develops a yellow, hard crust on his or her scalp, don't worry - this is called cradle cap and it's very common. To soften the flakey skin, try rubbing a small amount of vegetable oil (such as olive oil) on your baby's scalp, leave it on for about 15 minutes, and then use a fine-tooth comb or soft brush to gently brush the flakes off. However, be careful not to brush too harshly; your baby's scalp is delicate and can get sore and red if brushed in the same spot too long or too hard. Make sure you wash your baby's scalp after applying the oil; leaving the oil on can cause the flakes to stick even more. To help dissolve all the oil, leave the shampoo on for a few minutes before rinsing off.

mamabear ... that was some post! impressive! :)
finalcountdown ... our 'routine' is really nonexistant, even with the reflux settling down. All the books I've read say that routine is not easily achievable at this age so not to worry. I know it's frustrating though when you get a really good night with a long sleep, then have to wake up multiple times the next night. I had visitors arrive yesterday after Josh had just chucked up a large amount of his feed. I thought the timing was bad cause I was about to give him more milk cause he seemed hungry. Instead I let them cuddle him and within 20 minutes he was asleep and he stayed asleep for nearly 2 hours! So, make the most of your relatives and hopefully you'll get a bit of rest yourself!
jennasmum ... that frustration with tired signs and being awake all the time was my frustration. however, it's heaps better with the treatment for reflux. Suddenly it's harder to get him to sleep, but once he goes to sleep he usually stays asleep.
I don't know what to do about baby fingernails either. Lots of people suggest biting them off cause fingernail clippers can cut their skin, but I can't get my teeth near his nails for more than a few seconds! So, I just get scratched! Although actually his scratching of himself and me has settled down in the last week.
I can't get over the change in Joshua in the last few days. He's more awake and happier during the day and yet will still sleep for a few blocks. He's feeds are so much shorter and waking up shortly after going to sleep is the exception rather than the rule. I don't really know myself! It's so nice! I got nearly 8 hours of sleep overnight in total.
Well, should go and make the most of this time! Josh is awake in his bouncer next to me but is looking sleepy ...
well it really is great to hear I'm not alone with sleeping issues - although I would rather we all had perfect sleeping babies of course!
I thought we were really getting it sorted but had a @!# night Wednesday and then I just couldn't get Hamish to sleep during the day yesterday. The only thing that worked was a long walk in the pram in the morning but it meant I couldn't get a nap in so I was wasted by the end of the day and in tears with frustration and exhaustion. DH got him to sleep in no time come 7.30pm though and he slept 6 1/2 hours straight then another 3 hours and has been back asleep for over an 1 1/2 this morning so its all boom and bust here.
We've also been having some attachment problems due to excessive squirming during feeding - he tries to hang on and just about pulls my nipples off! Not sure if its wind or milk supply its so hard to tell sometimes.
Hopefully things will start to settle over the next few weeks for us all :fingerscrossed: .
We're off to visit work for the first time, they've all been hanging out to see Hamish so hopefully this big sleep will have him at his best.
good luck all you tired and brave mummies and have a lovely weekend :hugs: .
kx
mim - great to hear Josh is doing better. I think you needed it you poor love. You sound like a new woman, it's amazing what a decent sleep can do for you isn't it.
finalcountdown - I think the milk spots are a combo of milk spots/heat rash/ blocked sweat glands/hormone rash. Can't wait till they go! Honestly he looks like a spotty teenager
liviesmum and lukeandmattsmum - i hope your nights get better quickly. I've been really lucky so far (touch wood) Koby seems to sleep for 2 lots of 3-4 hours blocks during the night, he's usually awake around 5am regardless of when he last fed, which is usually 3-4am. But no screaming. I did go through it all with DD so i can sympathise.
Tabby - good luck with the needles, it's not something to look forward to.
freddie - i'm sure Hamish will charm the pants off everyone at your work.
:hugs: to all you mummies with sleeping, feeding and wind problems. We have our fair share of it in our house.
TJ had a couple of big night sleeps early in the week, but the past couple has returned to 4 hour sleeps. At the 2.30 feed last night she took and hour and a half to settle. The night before she settled at 10.30, I got to bed at 11, DD1 woke at 11.30, 12.30 and 2.00 for a drink then TJ woke at 2.30 for a feed:banghead: . Looking forward to DH being home next week so I can have a couple of Nanna naps.
Luke&Matttsmum...know exactly what you mena about being grumpy with the older kid(s) when youa re tired. I tend to have my grump sessions with DD1 first think in the morning and at her bedtime. Good luck with your checkup today, I went through the process on Monday. Talked about DD1 childcare while OB was 'down there' doing the pap smear:rolleyes: .
Jennasmum...I think the older kids get loud jsut to get the attention. I know this is what DD1 is doing, that and being rude and naughty.
Finalcountdown...Enjoy your break. Don't panic about the routine. We are still not setled into a routine and probably won't. With daycare dropoffs and pickups, shopping and appointments lately I always seem to be waking TJ up and strapping her in the carseat. To help ditermine wind from reflux - my experience - with refulx DD1 wouldn't feed properly, she would have 5-10 mls of milk before coming off the boob or bottle and then arching her back and throwing herself backwards. with wind Tj feeds ok then gets wriggly, with arms and legs going in all directions.
Flicka...:hugs: for you and Kelsey. Hopefully the hole repairs itself as she grows.
Liviesmum...if bubs tounge remains white, she may have thrush. As for Breast milk in the micro, I though it is because microwaves kill all the goodness in the milk.
Hels...good luck with the transition to formula. Time and effort was certainly a factor in me deciding to switch to F.
Mamabearof3...It would be great to get DH to settle TJ during her nighttime cluster feeds, but he works away in the mines, so most of the time it's just me. I've resigned myself to just sitting with her when she is unsettled until we've got rid of all the wind and she's happy to go down. As for older siblings 'helping' at every noise, DD1 is overhelpful. Have explained to her that TJ is allowed to cry and sometimes needs to cry, and have moved TJ into her room for all sleeps as DD1 would spontaneously kiss and cuddle her while asleep.
Phew! Had a few posts to catch up on. TJ has her 6 week checkup today and we're off to mum and dads for the weekend. Decided I need a change of scenery and some adult conversation. Went into work yesterday to do a show and tell and to catch up on all the gossip and happenings. Not looking forward to going back.
I'm thinking of having a Perth Jan Mums get together soon. Anyone interested and what day would suit best?

Every time I have a minute to get on the computer there seems to be pages more here! I wish I had time to read it all, Nathaniel doesn't seem to want me to have time to do much at all.. I'm sure you all know how that feels!
I noticed a few mums have switched to formula, I feel a little better now. I felt so guilty when I gave up breast feeding, like everyone else in the world was doing it and I wasn't! I was told I'd feel sick for 'a few days' when my milk was drying up, it's been nearly 3 weeks now and I'm only just feeling better. My milk only just seems to have stopped leaking!
Apart from the guilt I still feel occasionally, Nathaniel and I are much less stressed now he's totally on formula, and Daddy gets a turn to feed! Even if it interupts his importand tv viewing!

Hi everyone,
Its very hot & humid again today. Sierra is coping really well, i wish i could say the same for me lol. We dont have air con so it makes it pretty hard. It was hot yesterday but Sierra and i spent most of the day at the shopping centre while DD1 & 2 were at kinder. So that was really good and nice and cool.
We dont have much of a routine really. She has a few big sleeps during the day. Around 8-9am and she wakes at around 12-1. Then she asleep again by 2-3 and awake again at about 6-7. Then awake for another 1-2hrs and then asleep again lol. She seems to sleep alot! She also quite good during the night. Still wakes every 4-5hrs. I have starting watching TV when i feed her during the night just so i can keep my eyes open. Its been hard the last few nights, i've just been so tired and the other night i only got 3hrs sleep cause it was quite hot and humid and also cause i went to bed late a Sierra woke soon after.
Havent been feeling the best, i have ulcers on my tonsils and dr says its just cause i'm a bit run down. DH says i have to take it easy but thats ok for him to say. He doesnt have to constantly keep an eye on 3 kids and do everything else that needs to be done. Why dont men get it? One of the mums at DD1 kinder says he DH is exactly the same lol. Hoping i feel abit better by tomorrow. Its our 7th wedding anniversary on Monday and we are going out for dinner tomorrow night and spending the day together on sunday. So i hope i dont feel too bad.
Regarding milk drying up. Mine took a few weeks. It didnt the other 2 times. I was leaking badly for about 5 days and then it felt like they were filling up every few hours for about a week after that. It was quite sore. But glad that its all finished now.
Hope everyone has a great weekend and you all get some much needed sleep.
I can't remember who has asked what....
I trim Audrey's nail with baby scissors while she is asleep....deep deep sleep though!
Thanks for the advice about the panadol and injections....I didn't really want to give it to her but my sil was so adamant about it! I'll have some handy though.
Our lactation consultant recommended the pigeon peristaltic teats too.....they are great and Audrey has no problems swapping between them and boob....you just need to make sure you get the small size for newborns.
On the subject of breast pads and leaking!!! What breast pads does everone rec....???? I'm using the pigeon ultra slims...tried to use some Johnson Johnson or something but they just looked terrible!! The pigeon are expensive but good and slim and don't make you look bulky in a fitted shirt.
Now is anyone else having the nappy issue....Audrey is a bit too big for the newborns....but the Infant 4 - 8kg look huge on her and I'm worried about leaks.....and the other bummer is they don't come in bulk!!!
Are there any Brisbane mums on the southside that would like to organise a catch up??? Let me know.
Don't worry about the routine thing....the only bit of routine we have is the nightime feed, bath, topup sleep and one feed at 2am.....during the day it's just whatever goes!!! I'm jealous of all those babies sleeping 7 hours!!!!! When does that happen!!!
Finalcountdown: Hope you enjoy your weekend away, maybe a good chance for a bit of a break. good luck finding a teat which suits him.
Have you tired him on infacol or infants friend or gripe water? sorry if youve mentioned it allready.
Cate: We have just gotten home from needles, yes needles! There was actually 2 so I was a bit taken aback by that as was only expecting one. It went pretty well, Katie had to have one in each leg ( leg because more fat there as shes such a tiny 8 weeker at only just over 8lb )
I will say it does hurt, no good sugar coating it is there? and she cried terribly but by the time I walked out the surgery she had stopped and only 3 mins to get home by car, gave her a bottle and she had only 20mils and fell asleep and is now sound asleep in the pram beside me, DP went and got us some panadol just incase, dp confirmed that if any side affects its usually just a slight temp and maybe a bit restless tonight. ill let you know how went.
The dummy worked well to help soothe her after too and of course a huge cuddle, I plan on lots of them today
lovingmybub: my milk also took weeks to dry up, every time I thought I was at the end they would start up again lol.
Kaites restless and now stirring so am off to give a cuddle ! will finish this later. oh and thanks everyone on all the tips for nails, will try em all xxx
Katie woke to finish her bottle off and is now sound asleep in our room :D I also gave her some of the panadol as her injection sites look awfully sore and when I had an injection the other day it throbbed all day so figure give her some now anyhow.
Cate: All babies differ with sleeping through, ds1 was sleeping through at 2 weeks, ds2 never slept longer than 20 mins and ended up in my bed most of the time so we could both get some sleep! he almost drove me insane lol and katie started at 7 weeks+. All the best for it happening soon for you .

We dont seem to have too much of a routine during the day either, he does feed every 3-4 hours though and his last feed at night always seems to be about 7pm even if he only feed at 5:confused: I think he's had enough of the day by then.
The best sleep he's done is 7pm until 5.15am:D Isn't that amazing!10 hours!!!! That was on tuesday night, it was my birthday so I think he was giving mummy a special happybirthday present. Normally he wakes inbetween 2 and 3am for a feed though.

wow - i keep reading this thread and don't have the time to respond until now...
tayla has been heaps better now with the mylanta and she put on 330 grams by the looks of it (which is a huge thing for us - considering she was four weeks old and had only gain 110 grams... What the!!!
the mylanta settles her - and she is sleeping about 8 hours thru the night now - and she has a feed play sleep routine during the day - which is great now
better go she is stirring for a feed now ,,,

Hi everyone my day hasn't been to bad hopefully my night gets much better. I'm trying to do lots of feeds this arvo to see if this helps Matt sleep any better tonight. Trying to keep him awake though is proving to be a bit tough.
CATE i'm on the southside and would like to meet some new mums and bubs. Where abouts are you?

Hi Ladies,
Gees go away from the computer for a day and have some many posts to read.
Lovingmybub – I was in the same situation as you. I felt guilty when I decided to put Talon on formula as I wanted to breastfeed him till he was roughly 12 months. But just wasn’t meant to be. Don’t feel guilty, you’re doing what’s right for you and Nathaniel.
Freddie – I so know where your coming from regarding latching problems. Talon was the same. It got to the stage where he didn’t want to be breastfed. It was so frustrating. Hopefully Hamish will settle down for you.
Finalcountdown! – Talon has milk spots and heat rash. Gets really bad on hot days. I usually just put a cool damp face washer on his face (now and then) that seems to relax him. I can't wait till they go either!
Cate – On the nappy issue. I brought Huggies newborn for Talon. I found they used to leak. I wasn’t really impressed with them at all. He’s grown out of them now anyway. I’ve also tried the Aldi nappies. I’ve heard so many ladies saying they were really good, so tried them for myself. They are pretty go. No leakage yet, but the downside is that they don’t come in bulk. At the moment I’m using Babyloves and I must say they not to bad either. As for breast pads I used to use the pigeon ultra slims and also the avent reusable ones. They did the job for me. I’m interested in catching up with some brissy mums and bubs. I’m on the west side (Ipswich way).
Tabby – I hope all went well with Kaitlyn’s needles? Talon had his today aswell.
As for us - Talon had his needles today. Poor boy was smiling at everyone at the dr’s surgery, he was even smiling right before they gave him the needles. Then that was it he cried and so did I. Thank goodness DH was there to comfort him. After the needles he’s been abit grumpy, but no high temp yet (touch wood). Also got Talon weighed today he’s 5.3kgs. I’m really happy with that. Anyway I better get going. Take the washing of the line while Talon and his daddy are sleeping (what a life lol)
Take care
Kel

Hi.. I have been reading these posts for months now and thought I would finally write something. My ds was born on 15/1/07.
It's so interesting to see that we are all experiencing the same issues...
Hope everyone is having a good day.
We have been struggling today as my poor bubby is just not sleeping.. same as yesterday. He was awake ALL day crying despite everything we have tried (he cried all day yesterday as well... aaaargh!!). I feel so sorry for him as he looks soo sad with the tears in his eyes and the trembling bottom lip.
He sleeps pretty well during night and up until now only work once during night- but when he has been so unsettled yesterday he work all through the night for feeds..
I rang a private midwife (specialises in settling babies) and arranged an in-home consultation for Monday morning so I hope that helps.:fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed: :fingerscrossed:
Welcome WildatHeart!!! Lovely yr joining us. Oh yes the tears are just awful aren't they, so tear at our heart strings. I hope yr lactation consulant/angel type does wonderful things for yr household!!
J-adore that is an awesome bday pressie!! 10hrs sleep. WOW, and leaking boobs..:) ?
Freddie I know what you mean about the squirmy-wormy frenzied feeding eels! Yes these were the same darling little kickers we carried all those months, I recognise some kicking :smiliedance: Sorry about the soreness, remember to rub BM on them..I have the same with my H for at least the end of one feed. I though maybe I wasn't letting down enough, so tried what someone here (sorry) suggested to stimulate this and it seemed to get better.
 for Talon+Kaitlyn today.
Had a great day today!! Well before tears when my Mum told me that my stress was affecting H. I'm not really stressed at all.. just with her!! :o Anyhow, earlier I left almost-DP with our first bottle of EBM..(just in case)and drove off (for work) for an hour and a bit. Amazing how much more human I felt..even 10mins down road YAH. Great feed he had on returning from his Dad (on rdo) and I also and we managed to actually have lunch together!!
Gosh and with another pair of hands can get so much done!! Lovely seeing his Dad feeding him, v nice indeed.
Okay, one tip.. The night settle, I hold a little blower heater over H..he relaxes straight away. Too hot obv to work in the day, but nights are a bit cooler here at mo
Also moved the night bath to the last thing, last night. He was floating (supported)in deep and looked v relaxed with massage after. Only few mins of crying before sleep rather than 1/2hr or more..!!!
Goodluck tonight all. MouseBrown - love a Perth catchup Wed arvo..Fri??

Oh my goodness! I have had 2 ngihts of 6 hors sleep - i feel like a new woman. It was a really rough start to the week. We just haven't managed to get back into the routine since she had a cold a few weeks ago. So yay!
It turns out I managed to get an infection so I'm on antibiotics for a couple of weeks. Was getting really dizzy and stuff so hopefully this clears it up! Don't want to go back to hospital... does anyone know how this affects the bub? (the antibiotics I mean)...
After always promising never to use a dummy.. I bought one. It was so miserable when she was in the car and crying because she haaaates it. It's a lifesaver. I will only use it when she is in the car (having said that DH is rocking her to sleep with one in her mouth right now!!)
I'm avoiding the subject of "the in-law's visit" but I should address it as they have just broken the news that they are returning in a MONTH.. WHAT THE... Do they think I don't have a life to get on with? Yeah, I want to spend all my days sitting around and cleaning up after them and cooking for them while the ooh and gah over MY daughter.
I just deleted a 500 word essay on some in-law horror stories that occurred today.
mousebrown: would looooooooooooove to get together with Perth January Mums! Most days are fine for me - Fridays are good.
Josh went 6 hours between feeds!! Yes, he started a feed at 8:50pm and the next feed was at 2:50am!! He was asleep from about 10pm til the feed at 2:50am! It was great! I got to have a nice long shower, then a good 4 hour sleep. He settled well after the feed at 2:50am and I was asleep again by 3:30am. I woke at 6:30am and heard him stirring. Then I heard him make a burp/choke noise and the next thing I knew he was screaming the house down. Poor dh was asleep when he started screaming so he woke up quickly. Josh was in my arms very quickly, then did a big burp, then screamed even louder. Poor little thing. Reflux isn't much fun for babies.
So, he's now had a feed, lots of cuddles, some mylanta and some more cuddles. He's still in my arms and appears to be just drifting off to sleep now. Yep, he's asleep. poor thing must be exhausted from all that crying. I'm not sure I'm game to put him down. I feel that after his distress was so bad he needs lots of cuddles, even if asleep.
On a different topic I was thinking that it was time I started exercising again. With my pelvic instability for the last few months of my pregnancy it's been a very long time since I went for a decent walk and it's time I start again. So, my plans were that after his morning feed (9 - 10am ish) I'd take him for a walk around the block. Starting this morning. mmm ... good idea, but believe it or not I woke up to rain! Yep, it's raining! It's the first rain we've had at this time in the morning for ages! How ironic! But looking at the forecast it will be fine for the rest of the week so maybe I'll start walking in a few days.
Wild at heart: welcome! Hope the midwife helps.Hope you had a better night.
Strawberry_shortcake: Thanks for the wishes. She went well. howd talon go?
Lukeandmattsmum: Hope you had a good night as well after that better day.
Leisa: glad the mylanta worked and Tayla feels heaps better.
Charis: thanks for the  ! Nice to see you had a great timeout and lunch, sure does refresh you hey.
On the night bath, Ive allways given Katie a bath just before last night feed and Ive always believed it helps settle her for the night, helps for them to get to know the routine too, to associate that with the end of the day and sleepytime. Hope it keeps working for you.
Cordelia: wonderful news on the 6hr's! It really does make a difference doesn't it, sleep deprivation is a horrible thing. Hope its the start and continues for yous.
Hope that infection clears fast :hugs:
Sorry cant help you on the affects to bubs but am sure someone will soon.
Mousebrown: Im up for a Perth meet, providing I can get there, we only have one car and while DP out of work its ok but if he obtains a job not so close to home it will be hard for me to get there because no car. Let me know whats decided and Ill do my best!
The after needle day/night:
Basically she was a little grizzly/unsettled/crying out till about the 5 pm feed but a dose of panadol AND lots of cuddles helped get through that, I fed her again at 9 and then a bath and a dose of panadol and a topup at 10pm before heading to bed and she slept through as normal,7.6hrs. She seems to have gotten the sleepiness as a side affect, dropping off before end of bottles and dozing most the day. So thats good that it was all she got. I gave her the panadol as I recon the injection site would be sore more so for her especially as shes tiny and not much bodyfat. He put on two normal bandaids, am so not pulling them off as well, they can fall off with her baths lol.
Well again she fell asleep short of the end of the bottle this morning, luckily we got a burp midway as she seems still quite sleepy and totaly out to it so am off back to bed for a couple more hrs.
Hope all the bubbas slept well!

mim1 i know what you mean about exercise im thinking of walking with my neighbour each day to pre school in the arvo to pick ds up. Its a 20min walk down hill but then its up hill coming back. I really should do it i just don't know how ds will cope with it but that said he will probably talk to his friend all the way home.
Dr phoned me last night and said ds stool test was fine even though 2wks on he still has diarohhea so the drs suggests trying him on soy formula as he thinks he may be lactose intolerant. None of my other kids are but my nephew is.

Finalcountdown, routine schmoutine. Don’t let it worry you at this age. Do what is working for you, if it means it’s all over the place then just go with the flow. Our routine is all over the place in terms of time most of the time but we have a routine with the way of doing things and I’m just letting Ariane set the routine and adjusting things around her. Yep Ariane wakes after a long sleep starving and takes a while to settle into the feed and gags to get herself started.
Trimming nails, I just bite Ariane’s as she’s feeding.
Lukeandmattsmum. I’ve never found that making sure baby is full makes them sleep, in fact with Ariane when she does a massive spew that looks like it’s been the entire contents of her tummy she will then settle for a long long sleep.
Jennasmum sounds like my first child and I spent his first few months of life trying to get him to sleep. He was just overtired and overstimulated and would wake easily. My answer with him instead of trying to make him sleep I just wore him in the sling and he would have much longer sleeps that way and I got to continue doing what I needed to do.
Mim sounds good to have an improvement
Mousebrown, how great to have dh home next week, that’s a great age for him to be around bubs now so much.
Tiredmummy hope the tonsils clear soon. I don’t think men will ever get it.
Cate I’m using lilypadz, silicon breast pads so no leakages at all because the light pressure prevents the leaks. Check them out at www.mothersdirect.com.au (http://www.mothersdirect.com.au/) or www.babybeehinds.com.au (http://www.babybeehinds.com.au/) They are supported by the Australian Breastfeeding Association now too. Expensive but a one off cost at least. Sorry no nappy issues because I’m using baby beehinds bamboo.
J’dore that is an amazing sleep for a newborn. Hope he keeps it up for you.
Leisa great weight gain sounds like she had a growth spurt in there now.
Welcome wild at heart, hope the sleep expert helps you and pass on any tidbits of information too.
We've been consistently having some great nights now, I don't know how but after some cluster feeding and unsettledness before 10pm Ariane then sleeps until around 3or4 and then back again easily until 6or7.
I'm off to Sydney later this morning to see the family so wish us luck for the drive.
~J'dore~

Well I think I spoke to soon about Cooper! Last night he feed like a newborn again!!! Every 3 hours. I'm really tired now:thumbsdown:
Oh well, I think it's just because he's got a little cold at the moment:rolleyes:
mamabear - how exactly do the lilypadz work? Do you not leak at all? I'm spending a fortune on breast pads, i'm using the pigeon ultra slim. But they need changing pretty regularly. I've also got some material washable pads but find they stay too moist.
I will try bubs in my hug-a-bub next time he won't settle. At least i can do a few things around the house that way.
Good night for us last night. Koby went to sleep about 7.30pm, woke at 1.20am for a feed and then didn't wake till 5.20am :smiliedance: I'm starting to feel more human again. I've also started taking blackmores preg&bfeeding vitamins as i was feeling pretty run down.
sugar - i hope the soy formula works for you.
Welcome Wild at heart - glad you decided to join us.

well had another great night last night....we did have a big day yesterday though....went out with a friend for lunch, went down to the waterfront in the afternoon to feed geoffrey, then we drove about 1 and 1/2 hours to pick up DSS. Geoffrey slept on way there, then had a feed when we got there. nearly made it all the way home, started screaming, so stopped and fed for about 10 mins and then came home for a big feed and went down at 8.30pm and slept till 8.10am! nearly 12 hours!!!! Yay!!
then was awake for an hour and fed and went back down at 9am, still asleep now at 11.20am, am sure he will wake up soon.
I am using rite-aid breast pads, work really well for me.
jacstar ... 12 hours sleep?? WOW!! I'm hanging out for 5, after getting 4 last night! I can't imagine 12!
It stopped raining so I went for a walk after all! I survived! Josh slept the whole time so didn't get to enjoy the scenery ... maybe next time :)

12 hours!!!!!!!!!! My mouth just dropped open when I read that!! AWESOME.
Had another AMAZING night last night. She slept from 10:30 to 6am... so I think that is fantastic. I'm so excited about it... I hope it keeps up. I've been a bit rude to the in-laws about being home at certain times for feeds and sleeps. Last night I virtually dragged them from a restaurant straight after we'd eaten. They were so not impressed but stuff em!
I've been doing some exercise for a while - but I find I can't do too strenuous... I have a loose chuck of skin above my scar and when I moved too much I feel like my guts are going to pop out! Does anyone know if doing situps will hurt the scar?? It's been 2 months yesterday so I'm sure that it would be okay - it's just a mental thing!!
Tabby: glad the injections weren't too much of a problem. The doctor wanted to leave Caitlin's until she was 10 weeks so we've got that to look forward to this week.
I agree that the bath before the last feed helps them to settle! We got lazy with caitlin and now that we've had 4 nights of feeds she's back to skipping a feed (or two)
mim: i hope the reflux gets better :/ It's so painful listening to their pain :( Good that Joshua's getting some stretches of sleep tho
Hope you have a better night tonight j'adore :)
Hi everyone, I have just read 10 pages of posts and everything is jumbled in my head so sorry no personals. After constantly being on the computer before Michael's arrival now I am lucky to turn the computer on once every few days.
Michael is doing really well. BF didn't work with Ben (on formula by day 10 and he is now a very big 2 &1/2 yr old) So far Michael and I are a better BF team, he has gained 720g in 3 weeks. I have started giving him 60-90mls of EBM after his 8pm feed and he has slept through till 2am 2 nights in a row, then up again at 6am.
We are using the dummy, he seems to love it and gets very fustrated when he loses it, as do I as I have to get up and give it back to him. Luckily this usually only goes on for 20-30minutes of settling at the most and he's back to sleep again and thankfully he doesn't need it after every feed.

wow - we had such a good day - tayla was grizzly from 8-10-30 pm last night but i gave her a feed to settle her and she slept from 11 til 7am - i had to get up to express at 4 and then she timed it perfect at 7 for a feed.
Today she has basically - feed played (getting longer each day ) and then sleeping.
I am enjoying her so much at the moment - she is smiling and cooing - my mum couldn't believe it when she smiled last week - but then i told her she has been smiling for ages.
Funny story though - we have the change table (and bath rollerset ) in the kitchen (easier when we bath her and change her ) and it stays beside the tupperware corner - she lies parallel to the containers and there is this bright blue dish that she coos at when i change her - well i moved it yesteday as it looked like it was about to fall on her - and she went looking for it - her eyes were all over the place and she was trying to move her head.... i realised what she was doing and moved it back into place and she started 'talking' to it again .. what the .... it was so cute - i told my dh and he didn't believe me and so i showed him at the next change and we cacked our selves and now we think it is so cute..
mim1 - i know what you mean about the reflux my little one is a misery at night - her dr has just uped her dosage and she is settling much better and it is always at the night time - so she sleeps really well now - good luck for you :fingerscrossed:
welcome - wildatheart - i think it was you - our bubs are born the same day ...
cheers to all and hope you have a great nights sleep

i forgot to ask -
what is every one using in way of nappies - tayla has a 'routine' for her bowels and she does one day after the miday feed (i hope that keeps going - i already know that it won't though :shame: ) and has been doing so for the last week - since seeing the doctor and being on medication. who is using fitted cloth - i have been reading about the baby beehind???? if that is right - what do you think of them and how much did you pay for them??
leisa
Hi,
Just a quick one - I have changed my username from Liam'sMumma to 2cutekidz.
I was getting a bit guilty about it! I have also managed to work out how to add a photo - only took me about 10 months!!
Not much sleeping happening here - we still feed every four hours - but only sleep for three (feeding and settling takes an hour :banghead: )!
Hoping it will settle down soon!
My little miss likes to use booby as her personal dummy - I refer to myself as the human dummy cause thats what I feel like at the moment. Tonight I refused and after trying a real dummy (which made her gag and nearly vomit) I offered my pinkie finger, it worked a treat! And the best thing about it is that Daddy also has two of them!! So no more "she wants YOUR boob excuse" when she's unsettled - Yay! :smiliedance:
Well, will try and catch up on all the posts now....
Take care - and I am so jealous of the 12 hours sleep!!!!! Lucky Mumma!!

Well i think i jinxed myself yesterday after posting that i had a good day. Not long after that Matt was crying for near on 4hrs, i thing he had a big pain because he eventually did this huge fart and burp and than fell asleep in my arms. Although we were still up 3 times during the night.
Trying not to jinx myself again we had a really good routine type day where he would sleep, eat and play. :fingerscrossed: we have a good night.
wildatheart welcome.
I use rite aid nursing pads which aren't to bad. Dove swisspers are preatty good too. I don't like the Johnson and Johnson ones though. Has anyone tried the avent disposables?
Sorry not to many personals, i tend to forget who wrote what by the time i actually get to posting.
Hope everyone gets a good nights sleep tonight.

Enjoy!

Let me know if you want something changed or added and we can keep the list neat at the start of the thread!
Gosh, I'm sad :P
Good on you Cordelia!!! Excellent list :yelclap:
Great to see Ben+Michaels Mum back on!
I was just going to say..I know I'm not the first, ever..but it felt like it, yes you can get yr bub out of the babybjorn still sleeping. It involved a sheet only on my futon (yes they have a use!) and some v gentle unclipping with me on all fours!
Mim1 was it who was driving to Sydney today, I did think of you out there, I drove an hour to Toodyay and an hour home, timed so well (fluke!) that he slept the whole way each time.
Okay a third one, whoever had the 'exploding poo' on the way from cake buying. At the time wondered what you meant! Ha, today I lifted Hunter up, he'd woken about 10mins before my meeting after sleeping the whole way..not a whimper, so was v v surprised to find babypoo all up the back of his jumpsuit, ugh. One of the first times I took a change of clothes..I know why now :o

hope you had a great nite tayla slept from 12 am to 7.30 this morning Yippee :smiliedance: and now i seem to have enough milk for her without giving her the formula afterwards - you all know how my supply was going down hill -- now it is uphill lol and i even express a bottle during the early hours ...

Hi leisa,
I dont really like fitted cloth nappies. i dontnthink they are absorbent enough and they take ages to dry. I use normal flat cloth nappies. They are pretty big on Tom butnthey clean easy and dry fast.
Well Tom is being a total delight. im very impressed by him. He started smiling last week! He is one month today. the time has flown by!
Too much sadness for 'was-almost'-DP and I to write about. But have wonderful breastfeeding happy hormones and lovely friends Yes it is hard alone:hugs: to Acacia+BrisMummy and me too!
:hugs: I hope your ok. Feel free to pm me if you like.
Thanks Charis, I'm off to change my username now, will update photo soon too!
BTW You sound like you are doing incredibly well considering situation with nearly DP, a newborn and what sounds like a lot of work. I have lots of support and don't think I do half as much as you! Take Care :hugs:
Big Thanks to whoever mentioned that the peristaltic pigeon teats fit avent bottles, I have lots of both but didn't want to have to swap and change bottles with my new avent pump. I managed to get the new electric pump for $159.95 instead of $199.95 just by walking to the other side of the mall.

Hi Leisa I love love love my fitted cloth, but I guess it depends on which one's too as I've got a couple of brands that I bought and I hate them. I'm really disappointed in the cheekybutts and beastly bumz but after a week of the baby beehinds I decided I definately loved them as much as when I had used them about 18 months before now. I prefer the bamboo over the hemp but the hemp dry so quickly in comparison so they are great for rainy days like today. Anyway I loved them so much I went ahead and became a demonstrator and fluffy mail arrived yesterday and I have my kit and now know that there is some exciting news coming from baby beehinds very soon and I can't wait.
Leisa I bought a mega pack of the baby beehinds through a nappy party and the price was the same as on the website but the demonstrator whom I've now taken over from got her commission out of it too and I got an extra freebie. I just sold the small PUL covers as Miss Ariane has grown out of them and I sold all 4 for $12 less than what I paid for them, by my calculation I've almost made money on them for using them for 5 weeks instead of disposables. Of course I still have the medium covers and all the bamboo and hemp to still use for the next two years.
OMG cordelia what a fantastic job
I drove to Sydney yesterday (from Newcastle) and then back home again today. Miss Ariane slept the whole way down and back again, she was perfect with a little chatter and back to sleep around Mt White. I hate driving in the rain too so it was a longer trip home. Hey is anyone else in this group from Newcastle or the Hunter?

last nite bubby slept from 930pm til 445am!! thats a record for us.
found out one reason for unsettled behaviour- a trip to dr y'day revealed an abcess which was infected by staph!!! yuck yuck yuck! poor bubby screamed and screamed when dr stuck scalpel in. now on antibiotics and panadol. gotta go back to docs tomorrow after midwife visit for check with gp and nurse.. poor little boy!!
good work on the list Cordelia, very impressive
:hugs: to Charis, hope all is ok with you both - impressed with the BB effort. I've done similar but its tricky!
Leisa - how did you increase your milk supply? I'm going to ring the lactation consultant/ community nurse tomorrow as our feeding/ sleeping routine has gone to !@# over the weekend and I'm really not sure what it is. Only about 45 mins sleep this morning then 3 abandoned attempts to get Hamish to sleep during the day. I can get him to sleep but can't make him stay that way. sigh.
Leisa and Acacia - I haven't heard about the fitted cloth nappies. We used a cloth nappy service for the first 4 weeks - about the same cost as disposables but gave up as there was so much leakage and they were so bulky. We've now got 'safeties nature nappies' which are new and only in WA at the moment - a fully biodegradable (breaks down in 6 - 8 months in landfill) cloth-based disposable developed locally. About the same cost as other disposables.
mamabear and others - very impressed about your long drives. Hamish usually lasts about 15 minutes max before crying although if I time it perfectly he is ok. 25 mins drive is about the longest I've tackled but we are heading to Denmark in two weeks which is a 5 hour drive and I'm dreading it!
hope you all had good weekends
kx
ps mousebrown - perth mums catch up sounds great, most days suit me but not Thursdays for the next 4 weeks as we start our parenting classes at the community health centre
Ouch Wild at heart! Where was the abscess if you don't mind me asking?
Mamabearof3, I am in Sydney but my Mum works in Charlestown and lives near Budgewoi, we visit as often as we can!
I am a milk machine today, every 3 hours on the dot since 6am. Glad the (.)(.) finally stopped hurting a few days ago!

Really should go sleep while Josh is between feeds - he's awake, but so is his daddy, so I should go ...
But, I've been thinking, what has happened to the february mums? This section is meant to be for bubs born from Jan - March, but we haven't had any Due in Feb mums join us. Should we start a new thread and go to their 'due in feb' thread and invite them? I just thought I'd ask ...
Thanks for the hugs gorgeous girls!! And BenGs+MichaelsMum you've got a whole amazing (cute as avatar!)toddler to look after..I just have to make sure I'm fed and reasonably clean:o
Three sames, H was feeding like clockwork today, 12.01pm! even.
But also like Hamish, Freddie was v unsettled and slept about an hour in 6! It is hot today though as it is for all us WA girls..
Hope its slightly cooler where you are, more south Sugar! Big hugs for DP issues. Can you get out for that walk..leave him to put them to bed??
Acacia that is gorgeous. smiles at 4wks from Tom!!
And the cooing at the blue container, gorgeous!Hmm Caitlin?
Wildatheart, great the absess been found and removed! One of the two couples +bub who came back and talked at our pre-natal class had staph infection in these first few weeks too. V worrying, he ended up in hospital. All fine in the end!
Oh they are so lovely+precious!!

Hi all.
Ok....after a long read, im finally posting !!
Wildatheart - Welcome !
Mim1 - At the risk of sounding rude or nasty, I think feb ones should maybe start another thread, only for the fact that it is good to have a group of posters you can get to know..i personally am starting to get familiar with who is who, and the thread already moves so fast!?? Just an idea though!??
sugar n spice - welcome to my world! :smiliedance: Matey, you are NOT alone!! I think it is just a "man" thing!! My hubby is a great help, but at times he just has NO idea what i do!! Eg..He went to bed early & in the spare room on Thursday night as he had to get up at 6am to get on a plane for a 45min flight to look at a part for work (3hours it took). Meanwhile i had to get up ALL night with bub, pack for 2 kids and ourselves, pack the car, organise the bottles etc and drive 3 hours on a road through nowhere on NO sleep!!?? His argument is always...'well i work hard, i do 12 hour shifts, on my days off i need a break, rah rah rah' Im like " HELLO d***head! I do 24/7 shifts with NO days off!!" He can have a "sickie" I cant!!!
So, chin up, and i just think, no matter how hard we tell them they just will NEVER GET IT!!
And how can we blame them, their mental capacity is subsequently less than that of the female!! HAHA
Cordelia - good job, gee you must ve really been avoiding them !! LOL I must say i was dreading taking bub into town this weekend to visit the rellies, but they were really good, and i let my guard down and let them feed him, and take him visiting etc, as hard as it was I knew i needed the break and my regret it once i got home!!
Well we had a good weekend away, despite the mission it was to pack and get there!! I forgot what its like to travel with a bub!! He travels great though...(not like he has the option, we do approx 40,000k a year!)
As i mentioned in a previous post ive been having probs with bub screaming in pain for hours and it started occuring around the same time every night. Id told the mother in law about it over the phone, but you could tell she thought it was just plain old wind or similar. The first night we were at their house, he started screaming at 20 to 8 on the dot as previous nights.
He screamed for 5 hours and he was totally inconsolable...nothing stopped him! We have tried wrapping, patting, dummy, feeding, panadol, marina, infants friend, warm bath, hot water bottle, pumping legs, rolling from side to side, car, pram, swing...NOTHING WORKED!!
Mother in law who can settle a baby at the best of times, was very distressed and started to think he may have had a twisted bowel or something...it was that bad. I felt like saying I TOLD YOU !! Anyway to make a long story short, we ruled out it was the reflux..thought maybe he is lactose intolerant so put him on the LF formula, and maybe wind or constipation?? The second night i was in rocky, at 20 to 8 it started again...this time i rang the maternity ward and spoke to a midwife. Well....what a waste of time, i got a 20 min lecture on how to swaddle and do controlled crying
I went to the chemist and bought yet another medicine, the brauer colic relief. and to my amazement the screaming only lasted half an hour. THen tonight.....NOTHING!!!!! I also ended up trying the Avent bottles (was using NUK), my daughter would not take avent but he seems to like them, i think its because they are similar to the shape of the nipple sheild.I dont want to rejoice too soon, but im guessing it was colic/abdo pain... whatever it was.....it reduced me to tears every night!!
He slept from midnite to 5am last night..so its a start!! I have also been giving him the dream feeds over the weekend, have been working a treat!!
I have finnally decided to give up the b/f. Whilst i have great supply and love being able to feed this time, he will NOT feed without the shields, and they are giving him soo much wind and was worried they are contributing to the problem. And i just couldnt keep up with the expressing and feeding. Im very sad about it, but just found that he was feeding for ages, not filling up, stuffing around on the boob and pulling off...with the bottle he seems so much more content.
So now...have to see how the whole drying up goes...did anyone just stop all together or did you keep expressing little bits to reduce the pressure?
Still giving him prune juice to help him poo.. and he has started doing one a day.
Hes 7 weeks now and im just loving every minute of it (except that screaming part of course!LOL) the smiles and coos are just sooo cute!!!!
Are there any Central Qld mums about!?
Hope all are doing well.....oh by the way, how do i change the wording underneath my name..it just says 'member' !>??
Sorry if i missed anyone in personals..
finalcountdown: When I gave up bf the only times I expressed ( and very little and just enough to ease them ) was when they started to hurt to much, usually before bed as to even lay on my side hurt like hell.
Great that bubs travelled so well and :fingerscrossed: youve solved his problem, The avent bottles are what helped Katie settle much better and since then we have 7+ hr nights.
To change title go to control panel and then edit forum profile and the second box down is where you can change it where it says custom user title.
Katie is sleeping much less daytime now, seems to like to catnap, but I dont mind as her nights are great, she settles beautifully come 8 or 9ish pm.
Hope all the bubbas sleep well
xx

I post in the due in feb section sometimes and they have decided to wait until they all have their bubs before coming in here.
They also said they will start their own thread for feb mums in this section. But from time to time I expect we will have threads that combine. I agree it would be nice to keep the chat threads separate though. But we will have to start a new one for us in march like we used to, or the mods will close them if they get too big.
Things are going well here. Reece is doing well on the formula, he is becoming a chubby chops now lol. Sleeping well at night and more settled in the day too. We have bought him a fisher price swing which he loves.
Took him to MIL's yesterday with my parents, he was well behaved but screamed as soon as we got in the car to go home
I have just fed him a whole bottle with his eyes closed, then burped him on my chest and he is fast asleep again. Dontcha just love those types of feeds at 4am :smiliedance:
We are going to a sleep and settling class next weekend. Don't really have too many problems with that but thought it wouldn't hurt to go along.
I have also joined a play group which starts in a couple of weeks and runs for 6 weeks on a wednesday arvo. I can't wait to see the other bubs around the same age.
I have to go back to the OB in 3 weeks, I am still not happy with things "down below". Also have to get this cyst checked out in my boob as even though milk is drying up, it's still there
Sorry no personals, took me his whole feed to catch up on all the posts. Hope everyone is doing well though despite the lack of sleep.
Also, good to see some states are arranging meets, Are any of the Melb mums interested in a meet aswell?

Don't worry about making the decision to stop BF'ing, there are alot of us that have been in your shoes, I felt the same last week. Feel good about the fact that you did BF for a while which has given him a good start.
Whilst waiting for the milk to dry up, I expressed for comfort only for a couple of days. Also try running hot water over your boobs in the shower and gently massage them. You may leak a bit whilst in there which helps with the pressure too. Wear a tight fitting bra with breast pads and take a couple of panadol for the discomfort if needed. It can take a few weeks to dry up (apparently), but they feel alot better after a few days.
To change the wording under your name I'm pretty sure you do this via the control panel and then "profile" (from memory lol)

Sending lots of :hugs: to those of you having problems with you Dh's and Dp's. I know it can put a lot of stress on a relationship having a new baby in the house.

hey all !!!
okay so i am a little confused - do babies as young as ours roll yet???
i have been giving tayla tummy time for over a week now - she has really good head/neck muscles and she loves it - she will lie there and just look around ....
yesterday she managed to get herself on her side by pushing her legs up and got herself over... not on her back (her arm was in the way ) but on her side and she stayed there ... sometimes screaming because she is in limbo :) )
i thought it was just a once off. but she had done it again this morning twice now.... is everyone elses precious one doing this ???? i wonder wether i am giving her too much tummy time - is there such a thing???
btw- so totally agree with what you are all saying about dh and dps. when hubby complains now about sleep, kids or being tired... i bluntly remind him now - it is not about him anymore. Until he gets up and breastfeeds on demand and even has to wake at 3-4 am in the morning to express so as not to wet the bed sheets (sorry tmi if know ) then he can complain - as i said until then it is not about him!!!!
cheers
leisa
Wow ladies - so much to catch up on. Good to hear that some bubs are sleeping well and you are getting some rest. :hugs: to those of you who are having sleepless nights.
Charis - Hope you are doing ok. Just look at that beautiful boy of yours and have a cuddle when you are feeling down and remember we are all here for you if you need to chat.
Freddie - You were asking about increasing milk supply weren't you? I read on another thread that you can get herbal teas that are 'nursing blends' from the health food shop that will help to increase supply. never tried it though.
Wildatheart - Hope your little bubba is feeling better. You poor thing - you must have been so worried when you found out.
Sugar - :hugs: for you. Hope you are having a better day today. Things can be so hard at times can't they? And especially when you have a new bub and other kids to look after.
Kelsey is sleeping well at the moment. She has her evening episode of being unsettled with colic but other than that is developing well with lots of smiles. She is also starting to make noises when we talk to her and when she is excited. Very cute!! Am trying to toilet train DS at the moment and he has just come to tell me about another 'accident' so I had better go and clean it up. Take care.
Leisa - We posted around the same time. Just wanted to say that no, I don't think there is such a thing as too much tummy time. You want bub to get a strong neck and look how strong she is - trying to roll at her age is unreal!!!
Also agree with what you said about DH's and DP's. I often have to remind him that the kids come first for me now and the world doesn't revolve around him!!!

A busy weekend for all by the looks of things.
Well done Cordelia on an impressive birthday list! Either too much time on your hands or you really do hate spending time with those inlaws!
:hugs: To sugar. We all know how hard it can be with our DH's and DP's. They are a different breed and do not understand the daily running and organisation of our lives- as well as the physical toll it has on our bodies- hell I feel so tired at the moment I feel drunk!... and not even a drop of alcohol.
Bridget has been a bit unsettled over the last 3 days. We had a good 10 days of her sleeping through but now she is waking a few times a night. She has a cold and finding it difficult to breath sometimes, I think thats why she keeps waking. She also has a rash all over her face. I have been told its normal for around 6 weeks of age- its suppose to be a hormone rash. Anyone heard of it before?
I am really tired, I feel so heavy and slow- everything seems too much of an effort atm.......need sleep!
Again no chance to catch up on everything that is happening here!
Just wanted to let you know that Billy had some major attachment problems with BF and I took him to the doctor. He had thrush in his mouth that explained it, put on medication and everything is cruisy again!:fingerscrossed:
Just have a peek in their mouth and if there is white stuff it could be thrush.
Gotta run and take DD to pre-school:wave:
Liviesmum, rash is completely normal DS1 had it and looked like someone had rubbed his face with sandpaper, it goes away on it's own.
Cordelia, I have plenty of sympathy over the in-law thing, think yourself lucky they don't live down the road!
Flicka, how old is your DS, mine is 2 & 5months but I am too lazy to attempt full-on training yet and I don't think he is quite ready anyway!
Leisa, wonder if this is a sign of a super baby, a friend at MG's little girl crawled at 4months!
Hope this is a silly question, has anyone else noticed bubs having little jolts & jumps while they are asleep? Michael's legs each went a little funny when he was stretching the other day (like he'd had a cramp and had stretched too far so he got a bit shaky)
MEN CAN SUCK! Try to remember the little good moments though, even when they are sometimes few and far between!
BenAndMichaelsMum - My DS is 2 & 3 months and we are doing toilet training on the days that we stay at home. If we go out I still use a nappy and we use napies for naps and bedtime. It is going ok although we have had a few accidents. My mum suggested doing it now rather than later as it is easier in summer when you can leave them in undies and a shirt all day and it doesn't matter if they get wet. Otherwise in winter I will have to change undies, pants, maybe a shirt and jumper. So we are trying but doing the "no pressure" thing and it has taken ages to even get him to sit on the toilet. Now if he does a wee he gets a stamp on his hand or a sticker and if he does a poo we all clap and carry on and he gets a $2 matchbox car!!! Seems to be working.
Also, about the jerky movements and getting the shakes - I think this is completely normal. The jerky movements actually have a special name (someone might know) but it is like a startle reflex and can actually wake them up. Also, not sure why they get the shakes but kelsey does occasionally. Maybe it is just them learning to use their bodies and they get a bit shaky when moving an arm or leg.
Flicka Thankyou, I didn't think it was a big deal but I feel better now. I am off to the clinic on Thurs and will mention it to nurse as well.
Your DS sounds very clever, mine is not really interested yet!

thanks everyone for the sympathy. We sort of made up.
ashton still has diarohhea but he's not sick and the HA AR formula isn't working so gone back to s26 AR
might try lactose free formula on pay day
My sisters wedding this wkend so im busy cleaning ready for visitors today onwards coming to see my new house
Just a quick post while Audrey is sleeping...had sil and 2 kids over this morning.....or should i say to hyper elephants!!!!! They are gorgeous and lovely but just don't get it that when Audrey is sleeping she doesn't want to play!!!!!
Tabby, Luke&Mattsmum and Strawberry Shortcake - when I get a chance I might try and pm you to organise something for bris mums...I'm at Mt Gravatt....where would be somewhere good to meet??? Maybe a park....being a first time mum, I'm not up with what's around - let me know any suggestions.
Audrey doing well - we got a stretch of sleep from 8pm to 4am the other night...but I actually would prefer her to wake at 2am so then I can go back to sleep....couldn't when she woke at 4!!!
Happy thoughts to all!
BenAndMichaelsMum: Katie has done that leg thing a few times, reminds me of like when you scratch a dog and its leg goes nuts, it shook that much. Was the first time I had seen it in any of my children.
and speaking of a first for me, she farts like ive never heard a baby fart before!!! The boys never farted this much or so loud. They are so loud that if im nursing her I get accused of it and blaming her LOL
Cate: I'm actually a Perth mummy.
Katies the same, with 9-4am, sometimes she goes right back to sleep, others she thinks its morning so lets play!.
leisa: Katie has also done that twice now, and as you I was truly amazed how soon she was, but her neck has always been strong, the midwifes all commented on it and the clinic nurse as well. She sits on my lap now with her head unsupported for about 10 mins now.
Katie has been very unsettled during the day the last two days, will go down but wake shortly after and cuddle back to sleep and back to bed then wake again, even last night wasn't her usual self with much grunting and restlessness and only went 10-4 and with many waking inbetween to re-wrap or dummy, so not like her, am wondering if delayed affect of needles maybe.
I wont comment on the "other half" as it will just get me started, with mine home as well now while out of work its like :banghead::banghead::banghead: and the list just goes on and on and on........................
I so need a day out!
Katies napping, gave her some infants friend in hope it helps her settle better. So time to try catch a bit of a nap with her I think.

Firstly welcome Wild at heart
Cordelia - good job, gee you must really been avoiding your relatives LOL
Freddie - You can get fennel tea from the health shop, the lady at the clinic told me about it. She said it worked to well for her lol.
Sugar – Hope things are better today. I totally understand with you. Man they just don’t get it. They seem to think there the only important one on this earth.
Tabby - Glad to hear Kaitlyn’s needles went well. Talon had 3 needles all up. 2 in left leg and 1 in right leg. He went really well. He got plenty of cuddle time after it.
Leisa - You can give her as much tummy time you like. Your very lucky Talon hates tummy time, he screams. As for nappies I use fitted cloth nappies while I’m home (I love them, need to buy more though lol) When I’m out I use disposables.
Talon must be having a growth spurt. He’s feeding every 3 hours and I’ve upped his amount of formula from 150mls to 200mls. Last night was his 1st night that he slept from 8pm to 6am. I’m pretty happy with that. Lets see how he goes tonight.
I hope you lovely mums and bubs have a great night sleep.
Take care
Kel

can i ask how many jan mums are using dummies? i have read so many bad things about them . i have one and i am trying to use it only sparingly - but it really calms her. i feel so guilty though.
I have used a dummy with all 3 of mine, never really understood the stigma attached to them personally as they can be of great use, would rather soothe a cranky/unsettled baby in no time rather than hrs
I think there is way too much guilt put on us sometimes, like the pressure to bf and dummy use.
personally I do whats best for Katie and for me, if it works for you Elembee then try not to feel guilty xxx
A happy mummy is a happy baby.
Ellembee - I used a dummy with DD since she was a newborn. She's 2.7 now and still has it for sleeping. Do i regret giving it to her? No. She was very a unsettled/crying baby and loved her dummy and i loved the peace it gave me. I'll get back to you when we try and get rid of it
I've offered Koby a dummy but he didn't really take to it. I think some babies are more 'suckie' (if that's a word??) than others. Do what works for you and your bubs as Tabby said. Don't feel guilty, that's what they are made for.
Cordelia - love the birthday list, will wait and see how the profiles go...lol
Strawberry - Talon sounds like he's doing well. Great sleeping 8-6am. What a dream!
Koby went to sleep at 7.30pm last night, woke at 10.30pm then 1.30am then 4.30am bf one side...then 4.50am bf one side. Then awake again at 6am arrgghh. Hopefully we have a bit better night tonight.
Ellembee, Michael loves his dummy. He doesn't always use it to settle but 9 out of 10 times he does. I would rather he suck a reasonably clean dummy then his sleeve, hand, thumb or someone elses dirty finger. Ben had his till he was just under 6months when I got fed up with getting up during the night because he had dropped it. 2 nights later he was self settling.

i wish that geoffrey would take a dummy!! we have tried heaps and he just gags and even vomited, so we have given up...he self settles at night, just sometimes in the car, I wish he would take it!!
also has anyone else found bubs moving up in cot? geoffrey is sleeping on tummy and he is at one end of the cot and when I go in the morning he is right up the other end, nearly banging his head!

Hi everyone, well Matthew has had a good day we seem to be settling into a routine of sleep, eat, play during the day. Night times though we are up and down a couple of times, but he is getting better at going back to sleep, thank goodness.
CATE i am in Manly West but can travel anywhere. I'm not sure of what parks are close to you, but i am happy to meet up at Garden City for a coffee if you like. The Coffee Club outside Big W is not to bad at getting prams in. Just let me know what days suit you, I am free most days except Tuesdays.
I so know how everyone feels about their partners. I won't even start about mine.
My two year old has been a right little so and so lately. He has such a temper on him he hates been told off or told not to do something. It is driving me mental.
Anyway i should go to bed and get some much needed sleep.
Catch up soon.
