View Full Version : My foot is swollen!

My right foot has swelled up. I noticed that it was a bit sore around the ankle (at the front) a day or so ago and today the whole foot is swollen.
Could it be gout?
I don't usually drink but the other night I went to a wedding and had a few wines, then a couple of nights ago my friend stayed the night with her kids and we had a few wines.
I don't remember hurting myself or getting bitten by anything (there's no marks that I can see)
What do my esteemed members think...I dare not ring the 'smother in law' and tell her of my woes...she'll want me to lop it off! ;)

Gout is incredibly painful and usually underneath the foot in the vicinity of your big tootsie.
The symptoms of gout include:
Sudden, intense joint pain, which often can wake a person from sleep.
Swollen joint that is warm to touch.
Red or purple skin around the joint.I wouldn't ring the SMIL either  but maybe the nurse at your GP's....

Is it just swollen or is it hot to the touch and painful as well?
If it is it could possibly be cellulitis (an infection in the skin cells that needs to be treated with AB)

Thanks for the replies.
Well it's not gout then because I don't have any joint pain & I don't think it's cellulitits, my Dad had that and it looks nothing like his leg.
I put a cold pack on it last night and when I was on the 'puter I had it elevated on the 'puter desk. It's a little better today, not as swollen. It's a mystery.
Thanks for your help girls.

Got any anti-inflammatories MD?? Nurofen? That'll help with the swelling. Try and stay off it as much as you can and it it gets worse, see your GP
hmmmm this happened to my mum, turned out she had been bitten by a snake, sadly not poisonous lol i'd go get checked MD, my mother had no visible marks on her ankle at all. Hopefully it's nothing serious!
