I've read some absolute horror stories on Bubhub about flying with car seats. We're going to Melbourne for a week next month, and while we'll be able to manage without a pram or stroller (yeay Hugabub!) we will still need to take Sarah's car seat.

I'm assuming you check it in with your luggage? I was thinking of putting it in a big bag to try and keep it clean and in one piece. Is this a good idea?

We're going Virgin Blue, I'll give them a ring in the morning if I remember...

yeh they carry that and a stroller up to three items free. If you are worried about it getting marks ets i would but it in a bag. Ipersonally have done it many times and have had no probs

I have also travelled with carseats a lot and had few problems - and have never put them in a bag - but probably should have!

No probs with a car seat for me. You check it in oversize luggage, if you are worried then just put it a big clear plastic bag. If you put it in a bag they may charge you as additional luggage. Virgin have a policy of including ALL baby items as worth 5kgs of included luggage. If you want to take a stroller you are able to take it right up to the gate, then check it in there and they will put it in the plane, then you pick it up with the car seat in oversize luggage. Alternatively buy an umbrella stroller when you get there for like $20 from kmart / big W and if you don't need it then give it to vinnies when you are done. Have fun!

I went to Qld a few months back and took the car seat and stroller. Had no worries what so ever! I put the car seat in a big black garbage bag thing I got the from supermarket as protection (it was a really thick bag) and they just loaded that and the stroller as oversized. Just make sure all the straps etc are all safely away or they cang et caught. It will be fine
