I have about 3-4 dozen terry flats that I would love to dye blue. I tried once before but after about 3 washes, they had turned back to white, even though I had followed the directions. So how do you do it properly and get them to stay coloured?

I know that adding vinegar to the rinse of fabric with leaking dye (new stuff) works so fix it, maybe that would help?

I used Dylon dyes, they come with a little colour fixer thingy. I did Sarah's pink and purple and while they have faded a little, they are still very pretty.

That's what I used last time, the itty bitty tins. Is that the same as what you used?

I do quite a bit of dyeing. If you wash on hot all the time, you will lose some colour but there are some great dyes out there. I'll send you a link to a great site that sells heaps of them and all different sorts.

If I remember, I'll take a pic of them all on the clothesline.

I boil the dyes in - leave the nappies boiling for a good 20-30 mins. Then, after they have cooled a bit, transfer them in to a bucket of really salty water and leave them overnight. Then rinse as normal. They will fade a bit but not hugely.

Not at all :D it was a pretty fun way to spend an afternoon. It's all trial and error. Somethings work, something don't.
