What age can you give it? DH wanted to give some to almost 2 yr old DD,but I wouldn't let him as I was told it's a choking hazard. Is that right?

My ds will be 2 in feb, and he has popcorn once, he didn't like it though, there was times that it got stuck.. that was a bit scary... just make sure his juice is near!

But even me, at my age still get it stuck sometimes!

I think they say 3 because yes It can be a choking hazard.
Both my kids had popcorn from 2 as long as I was there watching

Maybe if you pulled it into smaller bits. The problem is when there is shell left on the piece of popcorn from the kernel and it gets stuck in your throat. Its actually one of the reasons I dont like the stuff myself. But if you feel you could give it safely by brekaing it up . .why not .. just be ready in case!!

DS2 started having it at around 18mths I think. He's never choked on it. But then again, this child was having really lumpy food by 6mths of age so was used to chewing things properly.

my bro offered ds1 popcorn the other day he wasnt a fan  he spat it out onto my bro's leg lol
i think if a child can chew well it should be alright but only under supervison:thumbsup:

DD was 2 she loves it, I just pop it in the microwave & give her a bowl of the ones from the top of the bag(they are nice & fluffy & normally popped completely) I do not leave the room whilst she is eating it

I would say when the child is around 7 -8 only because even I cough up when I eat popcorn I think it's dangerous and unhealthy.

my kids love pop corn. they get the microwave stuff and gave dd some. (1 yr) they broke it up a little by the time she had slobbered on it, it had sort of just melted in her mouth. she loved it!you would have just have to be very careful.

How is popcorn unhealthy????????????
My son is 21months old and loves it.
I of course am with him when he eats it (mainly coz he tends to make a huge mess with it lol), and he has it plain.
The only way I can see it being unhealthy is if it is covered in sweet or salty coating.

I think it's unhealthy.

Unhealthy:confused:
Maybe the coloured sugar popcorn or the ones covered in salt & butter but the one I give DD is healthy.
Popcorn is always on the list in books as a healthy snack(air popped of course)

I haven't tried it with my DS yet. Too scared he'll choke. I can't remember how old my other kids were though... I do know my popcorn maker is lost somewhere in the kitchen cupboard! It's been that long!!

I would think that 2 would be an ok age to have popcorn whilst at home with their mum supervising. But just a little vent it annoys the hell out of me when we go to a daycare or playgroup party and someone has supplied popcorn.
It IS a choking hazard and it is a food that needs to be supervised, I have nightmares about a little kid wandering off with the stuff and getting into trouble. Also there tends to be younger siblings at these things at well and popcorn tends to get all over the place.
