hi there
i am wondering if its possible for a breastfeed baby to overfeed. my son is not even 3 months yet and i'm a bit sick of the comments about his size. he was 5.73kg on the 21 december and his height was 53.5cm i know he is short for his age and a bit on the chubby side.i demand feed he wont go longer then 2-3 hours without a feed. he has reflux, although it is settling down, the dr thinkshis vomiting may now be due to him filling his belly up and then not having room.is there a way to stop overfeeding?he wont take a dummy.

Dear Jessgray
Please dont worry about your baby's size - it is great that he is doing so well. His feeding pattern sounds normal for a breastfed baby -many breastfed babies have an early growth spurt then slow up after the first few months -then as your baby becomes mobile he will seem to 'slim down' and fit his body better.

Re reflux - you could try keeping your bub upright after feeds; carrying him in a sling and popping him on his tummy at a raised 30 degree angle.

Are you allowing him to 'finish the first side first'? I describe feeding info for reflux in my book 100 Ways to Calm the Crying ( see www.pinky-mychild.com (http://www.pinky-mychild.com)) amnd also cover food intolerance ( which can cause vomniting/ reflux symptoms) in Sleeping Like a Baby.

Your baby obviously finds feeding comforting so just continue as you are - following your baby's lead -you cant 'overfeed' a breastfed baby - every drop is healthy!
