Has anyone had more than one premmie pregnancy, without a reason for it?
My son was born a month early and now I'm pregnant again I'm worried about another premmie baby. All worked out for us, but it was heart breaking to have to go home without my baby :( I wouldn't like to go through that again

My first baby son was born by emergency c/s at 4 weeks prem and weighed 4lb 1oz.
My second son was born by elective c/s 1 week early and weighed 8lb 9oz!
I too was worried that the same might happen again, but it's true what they all say, each pregnancy is different. These were like chalk and cheese (except for the vomiting, that was exactly the same!)

Hi Emma,

A girlfriend of mine had her DS at 29 weeks (so early and he is such a perfect 2 year old now - you'd never know !). They could find no reason for such an early labour.

Her DD arrived then at 41 weeks so no problem there at all !

Best of luck with your pregnancy ! :D

Hi mumofnoah

Amazingly ages ago i posted here a thread with EXACTLY the same title !!
My DS was born at 36 weeks and spent 10 days in NICU just like your little man...a horrible time :(
When i got pregnant again i was so paranoid about going through the same thing again...

I was hospitalised at 35 weeks due to contractions but they stopped after some forced bed rest...
I am now 37.5 weeks and going well :)

Goodluckwith your pregnancy and heres hoping for a full term and healthy bubba for you

Wow thats weird! Thats great that you were able to stop your contractions :D If you're 37.5 weeks that means you are already full term thats excellent! It's good to hear that it doesn't nessarsarily mean I can't go full term

I hope your pregnancy is a lovely long one where bubs gets to cook to perfection :) I read some research today about premmies that might interest you. And here are some great sources of info that can really help even if bubs is a bit over eager to meet you ;)

Diet influences preterm delivery?
Issue 23: 14 Nov 2005
Source: American Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology 2005; 193: 1292-301

Adopting a cholesterol-lowering diet could reduce the risk of preterm
delivery in low-risk pregnancies, according to the findings of a new study.

Specialists from centers in Oslo, Norway, randomly assigned 290 women aged
21-38 years to, from 17-20 weeks' gestation onwards, either continue their
usual diet or to adopt a diet with a high intake of fish, low-fat meats and
dairy products, oils, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and legumes.
The women in the dietary intervention group met with a dietician at the
start of the study and at weeks 24, 30, and 36 of their pregnancy. The diet
(described in detail in the published paper) included limiting the intake of
cholesterol to 150 mg/day, reducing saturated fat to 8% of total energy
intake, and aiming at a weight gain of 8-14 kg from pre-pregnancy levels.

All of the women in the study were non-smoking, white, with singleton
pregnancies, and had no previous pregnancy-related complications. About
two-thirds were nulliparous.

Lipids lowered
Writing in the latest issue of the American Journal of Obstetrics &
Gynecology, the researchers report that maternal levels of total cholesterol
and low-density lipoprotein were significantly lower in the intervention
group than in the control group. There were no differences between the two
groups in levels of cord and neonatal lipids.

Overall, one of the 141 women in the dietary intervention group had a
preterm delivery (defined as a live delivery before 37 completed weeks of
gestation), compared with 11 of the 149 women in the control group. This was
a statistically significant difference. There were no differences between
the groups in the incidence of other pregnancy complications.

The researchers write: "In conclusion, a diet that was reduced in saturated
fat and cholesterol, and enriched in a number of micronutrients, modified
maternal cholesterol levels, but not cord and neonatal lipids. It was
associated with a lower incidence of preterm delivery in low-risk
pregnancies and had no adverse effects."

They say the findings warrant replicating the study in a larger population
of pregnant women, involving both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies: "The
marked observed effect of this diet on the reduction of preterm delivery in
low-risk pregnancies should encourage future larger studies to clarify the
role of such a diet in the prevention of preterm birth."

Glad to hear it !! I was so nervous about another premmie and now i am like "would you come out now please !!??" hehe :D

Hopefully when he actually arrives he will be well and not have to spend anytime in NICU but i can fill you in on all that afterwards :)

Relax and enjoy your pregnancy

Well my GP yesterday took away part of my positive thoughts. He said he'd be very surprised if i didn't go early. And he just hopes its not before 35 weeks. Damn. I'm still going to aim for 37.

Hey Emma

Firsty can i say that since 35 weeks my docs kept telling me they would be surprised if i didnt go into labour "any day now" and i still made it to 39 weeks and 2 days !! so dont worry about comments like that, they really are just making assumptions that may or may not be accurate.

Secondly i had my bubba boy on the 25th and he is just perfect !! No time in care at all, its been a wonderful and joyful time for DH and I and i just wanted to really encourage you and remind you that "it may not happen again!!"
Obviously i cant make a promise to you that you wont have any problems this time around but i hope my story has you feeling encouraged and i will keep you and your unborn bubba in my thoughts and prayers that all will be ok for you second time around like it was for me.

hugs xxxx

Thank you for your support, I guess doctors have to cover thier bases. I hope I'm as lucky as you, I've read your other posts and once again congrats!!
By the way my mum owns a craft shop too! Actually technically it's a patchwork shop, but she used to own a general craft shop long time ago too.

You probably don't want to hear this one, but at least the ending is happy. My friend's first baby was born at 25 weeks and their second was born at 26 weeks. After the first, they also wondered if the early birth was due to the baby or a predisposition to having prem babies. Obviously it was the latter! One is now a toddler and the other has had his 1st birthday and both are beautiful and healthy!
