One of my friends is having her first baby soon (EDD 4February), but at her last Ob. visit she was booked in for a c/s a week earlier.

Her bub is in a transverse breech position and it's head is pushing up against the placenta.

Just wondered if anyone else's has had a c/s for a similar reason, would love to hear about other's experience's so I can give her some reassurance.

TIA!:hugs:

You might find someone over at www.birthrites.org (http://www.birthrites.org) who has had a similar experience, you can connect to their forum or email group.

Also, refer your friend to www.spinningbabies.com (http://www.spinningbabies.com) as she might find some useful ideas ideas to try and get bubs to turn.

Another place full of information is http://www.breechbabies.com/contents.htm

Why hasnt her Ob offered to do an external version? If he cant/wont, she could look for someone who does. These have been known to be very successful, my VBAC classes teacher had success with this, and went onto have a vbac with a baby that was breech up till about 38-39 weeks. Also, Accupuncture is another thing to try, for which I've heard many successful reports about.

Also find out about her menstrual cycle, as women who go longer than 28 days are notorious for having gestational periods of about 41-42 weeks. We wouldnt want to risk iatrogenic prematurity, as, if her cycle is longer (and therefore her gestational period longer), having a c/sec at about 39 weeks could mean her babies lungs arent fully developed yet.

If she is determined to follow the c/sec route, there is a 'planning a positive c/sec' section at www.birthrites.org (http://www.birthrites.org), if she wants to check that out.

If she is unhappy about the c/sec route, tell her to get a few more opinions. It's not too late!
