View Full Version : do i stop bf and ff? need advice!
Hi,
I need some advice... i have a 4.5 mth old baby girl, and she has started on solids eating only one meal a day mainly in afternoon. I have been bf but in the past week after i have fed her, and she wont want any more from me, and she has been having 125mls of formula that is after i have given her a whole feed from both sides. Should i still continue to bf and give a ff afterwards as my supply my have dropped as she is sleeping thru and may not be getting enough or should i continue just ff altogether?
Im not sure if i should also increase her meals to maybe two a day or not. Please any advise is needed!
Thanks in advance
hi jess86,
It depends on what you want! personally i would keep BF and loose the FF more so now at this age bubs does not have to work as hard drinking the bottle and will become dependent on it, plus your supply will drop if you are dropping a feed for the bottle, make sure you are eating well and drinking heaps of water so the boobys are full of nutrients for bub, as far as the solids are concerned, 1 a day sounds good along with boob but some babys do want more and bub will let you know that...lol:thumbsup:
If you want to continue (and I encourage you to!) you shoudl drop the formula and the solids at least until she's 6 months. The more you feed her other things, the less your breasts are getting the message to make more milk.
porridge made from rolled oats (not instant) will help give you a boost, as will flax seed. I take flax seed oil tablets (from a health food store) when my supply dips from my period.
Also look on the Hub for "Lactation cookies" as they will give you plenty of help as well as being yummy.
Good luck!

I agree, I stopped breastfeeding due to extremely bad info and regret it HUGELY. At 4.5 months, a baby doesnt need solid food, it gets everything from you. Keep going, and there are a few different ways of increasing your supply, but when bubs starts drinking more, it will do it by itself.
good luck

Yep Agree.
Personally I would not give the Formula and stick to only breast at this age, but it's up to you.
She doesn't need solids at 4.5 months.
