Can't say I know of him well, but from what I've read, he sounds like Michael Moore ripoff. Is that the same one O's mom???

Hey K's mum:
I've never heard of him being referred to like that..but I suppose thats pretty spot on.
He had a scrap many years ago with Ray Martin for scumaging through his garbage bin.....and he was also on the firts "Race around the world".
He now does a half hour on SBS..last night (MON) at 9pm: Called Speaking in Tongues.
He seems to re visit religious conversation and debates.

Loathe him! I don't see how he & his programs get classified as a comedy.

Only got to see 5 minutes of last night's show, KB so can't really comment. My husband is loving 'Numbers' on channel ten so as soon as I change the channel in the ad breaks he starts pestering me to change it back. Men can't stand to not have the remote control!

Personally I love Safran, I think he is witty, intelligent and thought-provoking.

Also, I love the way he and Father Bob interact. Safran obviously has great respect for him, and I like Father Bob's straight-talking "call a spade a bloody shovel" attitude.

I really like him, especially in Music Jamborree. That was a great show.
But to be honest I got a bit jack of listening to him on 'Sunday Night Safran' with Father Bob. This is going to sound rather bad but I just got sick of hearing about religion week after week with only Father Bob.
I really enjoyed the vs God series but week after week with Bob was too much!

loved the music jamboree series, but he can get a bit tiresome after awhile, that voice can get rather annoying. some of the vs God series was also funny, specially when he got the fatwa put on Rove, but i think he just goes for shock value rather than making the effort to actually write some good comedy, i mean did we really need to see him vomiting over and over again out in the desert? ewwww gross

Oooohhhh that voice, it really grates on you doesn't it.
I really like the 'Jew Town' song he did. The film clip looked really professional.

Clearly I've been living under a rock. Never heard of half those things you're talking about. Could it be because I rarely switch to ABC or SBS? I know - very uncultured in my house. :o

I think we established that in the Missy Higgins thread, Ellen! :p When I confessed to being a big Missy fan, not to mention Kasey Chambers. :o

ok, as uncultured as I might be, I am very open to learning new things so if someone could explain the unleavened bread thing, I would be eternally grateful. Or was it a 'had to be there' kind of thing...

Speaking of uncool, could Queenie or Kaidensmum maybe get their butts over to the B&B thread and update me on yesterday's episode? Last I looked it hadn't been posted.. but I will go check now in case I missed it!..

I think it's a line from his very hilarious 'Jew Town' song from his TV show that went around the world looking at different religions. He is Jewish and he did this kind of hip hop (as I recall- could be wrong there) song with a very pro looking film clip about being Jewish. The lyrics are prob on the net somewhere if you have absolutely no life and want to go looking for them (I might do that later...).

What about the episode where he tried to get his "Extreme Mormons" movie made? I thought I might die laughing :) Didn't catch enough of his series though - missed the last one which I really wanted to see.

BIG John Safran fan here.

Missed last night's show though. Damn!

We have the whole vs God and the Music Jamboree series on DVD. You gotta love someone who tries to undermine entire institutions. Very Aussie!!!

I also loves Dave Hughes, so i think it's something about dead-pan, dry comics with very annoying voices that I LOVE!!!

Oh and LuWa, I agree. That "Extreme Mormons" episode was one of the funniest things I have ever seen! ROFLMAO!!! And you learnt so much!! I have morman friends, but i never knew they wore magic underwear.

Thanks LuWa for explaining my attempt at humour LOL...!! Cosmic, it's a line from the "Jewtown" song.

DH and I really like John Safran, music jamboree was great and so was the Vs. God series (except the ep. where the goat was sacrificed... way too gross and horrible and evil and the poor goat :( i ran away from the tv.....)

LOved the extreme mormons LOL !!

The "speaking in tounges" show was good too last night... i do love the way he and Father Bob interact ...
