View Full Version : 10 Week Bloods
I was just curious-do u have to have your 10 week bloods? The reason i am wondering is because i am 9ish weeks now and i only had bloods taken 2 weeks ago and they were fine and i really dont handle having blood taken very well as i tend to pass out so i was just wondering if it is a neccessity??
Is anyone else having them? or not having them done?
 Stephie,
I don't think its a necessity unless they were concerned about something from your last blood test. I have them regularly to check my iron levels but thats it. I only know of the 12/13 weeks blood test which accompany's the nuchal fold scan and of course an early pregnancy one to confirm HCG levels.
I never had blood taken at 10 weeks with any pregnancy. Just had some taken at the start, then not again until the Glucose Tolerance Test at around 26 weeks.
I chose not to have blood taken for down's syndrome test.
oh ok good cuz i just dont think its neccesary thats all. I had bloods taken a few weeks ago and my hcg levels at 5 weeks 5 days were 10,800 so they werent concerned so i dont see the point in taking more blood as my iron levels etc were fine
i'm sure at any stage of the pregnancy you can choose what you want. in the old days when my mum was pregnant i'm sure she wouldn't have gone to the doctor as much as we are throughout the pregnancy, and definitely didn't have any ultrasounds!
ask your doc what they are testing for and weigh up if you think you need to know that or not. i guess the more tests you have the more information you have - but what you do with all the information is still your choice!
My dr just gave me a referral thingy for 10 week bloods when we confirmed my pregnancy as we confirmed by urine not blood so maybe thats why but i figure ive had bloods since that at the hospital so whats the point?and ive had an ultra-sound and seen the heartbeat
Ahhh, just remembered. My oby asked about hepatitis B, C, Rubella and other dieases and wanted a blood test to check my immunity. I didn't have to have it in the end as my GP, god bless her, had asked for that to be done. He wanted blood typing too but found that in my previous file as he had delivered my last kid  Maybe that's it?
