View Full Version : have u started thinking?
has anyone started thinking about what kind of parenting you will be using once bub is born cloth vs disposable nappies, breat vs bottle feeding, dummy, co-sleeping, bassinet or cot, type of birth, place of birth, strictness of routine etc making desicions and will it be the same if you already have children?

Cloth Vs Disposies :I know i will be using cloth from the start if im able to but if i feel too overwhelmed im happy to use sposies till im in a routine.
Breast Vs Bottle : I will yet again try to b/f but if it doesnt happen this time although i doubt i will have the troubles i had with Boof lol ! I wont hate myself for changing to the bottle nor will i let anyone berate me for it !
Dummy : If this bubs wants a dummy then im happy to use it like Boof same again with sleeping on its side. I will do whatever to make sure bubs is happy just as we are !
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Will be using a bassinette from the start if the baby isnt a hippo like Boof was lol just for ease with b/f. We cant co-sleep due to not having the room with DP's injury.
Routine & Decisions : Never had a routine with Boof so doubt that will change. And like last time all decisions will be made my both Dp & myself but we already have the ground work so tis easy for us.
Type Of Birth & Place Of Birth : Will more than likely be at the same hospy where i had Boof unless something changes lol. But the birth will all depend on whats decided after what happened with Boof's so its all still pending heh.

Cloth Vs Disposies :I know i will be using disposable. I tried using cloth with the others but in the end it didn't work for them as they both had very bad excema and very sensitive skin and i had to stop using them, i expect this bub will be the same, plus i can't see myself having much time for washing them with three babies, 3 and under!
Breast Vs Bottle : I will yet again try to b/f but if it doesnt happen this time then i'm ok with it. My supply is pretty bad, and last time i kept going even when i should have given up. It ended up being the wrong thing to do as DD didn't put on enough weight and was much happier on the bottle.
Dummy :Yep, probably. Both of the others needed one, as they were comfort suckers! We'll see if this bub wants one, if so I have no problems giving it a dummy for up to the first year.
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Bassinette to start with in the bub's room. We have not had our other in our room and it had worked well, so we'll stick with what we know!
Routine & Decisions : Unfortunately this bub won't have much of a routine, as we will be busy running around with the other kids, especially as DS starts pre-school this year. Hoping this bub is happy to go with the flow!
Type Of Birth & Place Of Birth : Same as the last two times, looked after by the midwives, in the birthing centre, drug free. Hoping to get there quicker this time, as i had DD in the hallway of the hospital,. I'd really like this one in a room and so i have time to get antibiotics (strep B+) so the bub can stay with me instead of be taken away for hours of observation.

Cloth Vs Disposies : Cloth. But am open to using disposables now that you can get biodegradable ones.
Breast Vs Bottle : Breast - if I can do it.
Dummy : probably not
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Probably bassinette to begin with...
Routine & Decisions : not something i've thought about.
Type Of Birth & Place Of Birth : as natural as possible, but in a hospital. Would love a waterbirth but find the idea of a homebirth frightening as I don't live near a hospital. I am going private as I don't like the idea of giving birth in a teaching hospital - unless it becomes a high risk birth. I have this fear of former students being in the room when I give birth ;)

Cloth Vs Disposies :I will be using disposables but will use cloths if this one is like my first she always got rashes with disposables.
Breast Vs Bottle : I will be breast feeding and if my boy doesn't wean himself I will be tandem feeding.
Dummy : If the bubs is a sucker I will be yet again using one..
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Will no doubt have the cot all set up and bubby sound asleep in our bed.
Routine & Decisions : Hubby and I make decisions together except in regards to breast feeding that is my bady and my decision although he always supports me. I will get routines in place naturally but hopefully so my boy and bubs sleep at the same time so I can get one on one with dd.
Type Of Birth & Place Of Birth : Will be natural again hopefully.. I can go to the hospital I wanted as I had both natural so not considered to high risk now..

Breast Vs Bottle : Breast
Dummy : If bubby wants dummy then yes.
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Cradle, then move to cot when around 3 months hopefully
Routine & Decisions : Same routine as daughter, as long as it works, otherwise play it by ear.

Cloth Vs Disposies : Disposies
Breast Vs Bottle : I will yet again try to b/f but if it doesnt happen this time (like it didn't with DS) I will change to bottle without it being an issue.
Dummy : I doubt it.
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Porta-cot set up at the end of our bed and sneak in co-sleeping every now and then.
Routine & Decisions : Loved having a routine with DS. If bottle fed - def a routine. If b/f will go with the flow I suppose. Decisions - similar to DS if possible.
Type Of Birth & Place Of Birth : Same hospital as DS. Assume natural, but will go with whatever is safest, least traumatic and best at the time. I won't be devastated or feel like a failure if I have to have intervention.

Cloth Vs Disposies : Definately disposies
Breast Vs Bottle : I'll try breast again but if it hurts as much as with Zac, straight on the bottle.
Dummy : Yep
Co-sleeping, Bassinette or Cot : Same with Zac, Bassinette in our room until about 6mths old, then into cot in our room until about 8mths then into cot in own room
Routine & Decisions : I'm not really a routine type person only with sleeping mainly, worked fine with Zac
Type Of Birth & Place Of Birth : Place will be either where Zac was born or main hospital, had to go to city because had an epidural with him and my hospy didn't do it. Birth will be natural hopefully although won't turn down an epidural, best thing i ever had with Zac and definately would have it again. Hopefully it'll be a quick one this time:fingerscrossed:
