Hi everyone!
My husband works away, 5 weeks on, 5 weeks off, and we're expecting a baby in july. I'm a bit worried about coping on my own, so would appreciate any advice!
He has the option to work in the company office here in Perth, for the same pay, but that would mean he would only have weekends to spend with us, whereas now, he spends 5 whole weeks at home, and we can go camping and travel etc. such a tough decision. any suggestions?
It's a tough one but if we were in that boat, we'd probably pick doing the 9-5 option. At least the hubby will be there in the evenings and weekends. I don't think I would have been able to handle being on my own for 5 weeks straight after DS arrived. Acutally I don't think I would have been happy to spend 5 weeks on my own even without the baby. Yes having hubby for 5 weeks straight would be excellent but I would hate not having him for the other 5 weeks.
Being away from bub for 5 weeks would mean he would miss seeing him grow. It's truly amazing. DH is so excited to come home everyday just to play with DS and see what's new. The smiles and reactions are all priceless. It's something your hubby will miss the every 5 weeks he is away. If that makes any sense.
I am giving you my perspective from my way of life. I am sure whatever decisions you both make it will be made after having weighed the pros and cons from your perspective of life. Good luck :fingerscrossed:
Given that he'd be on the same pay, I'd opt for the 9-5 job too. Backing up what Tulp said, he'd then be home to help every night, and would see bub growing on a day-to-day basis rather than in leaps and bounds after 5 weeks away.

Hi there kej welcome :D
Hmmmm thats a toughie.... i think i would go for the job in Perth too esp if its the same pay.... DF has realised his baby boy has grown up so fast since he has started working away.... but atm theres not much we can do.
I guess sit down and weigh up the pros and cons of it all... is it a decision that has to be made before bubs arrives?

Hello welcome to
Mmm well if we were in that boat I dare say we would take the 9-5 jobie any day as the bub's grow up to fast and do new things everyday it seems and he would miss out on that for 5 weeks...ya he would be home for 5 weeks and see other stuff but how would your DH be being away from you and bub for that amount of time and what about you how would you feel being away from him....well thats just my thoughts it's tough my DH does 2 on and 2 off and if he could get a job in the city with what he earns working away he would he comes home after 2 weeks working and is stuffed and drained by the time he is himself again he is off again so my situation is a but different to yours. Let me know what you choose.
bye for now:wave:
