my waters broke on the Saturday the 23/12/06 at 9 days overdue, so they wanted me to stay in the hospital over night in case something happen, but it didn’t.
the took me to the birthing suite the next morning at around 9am, and put me on the drip.
next thing I know the contractions were coming very quickly and very painful.
they got me into the bath because I was stressing out and panicking.
that helped for a little while but then I started using the gas.
a couple of hours later the gas wasn’t working so they got me outta the bath to check my progress.
I was also most fully dilated and in allot of pain.
I asked for more drugs but they couldn’t give me anything because it was to late.
then I felt the need to push so they told me I could.
everything was going fine until he went transverse and got stuck.
he wasn’t going anywhere.
they put the vacuum on his head 4 times but that didn’t work at all. so they had to call another dr into to use the forceps on him.
in the end I ended up with a episiotomy (sp) and the finally got him out because he went into distress and had pooed on the way out.
I ended up with around 10 stiches which are still very sore.
and 'massive blood loss' according to the drs.
all up the labour was a horrible 6 hours
the next day the Dr checked him over and found he had a heart murmur and he was breathing really quickly, so they had to put him I the neonatal intensive care unit over night for monitoring and to have a ECG done on him.
he ended up staying there for 4 days and as I’m breast feeding I had to stay in hospital as well.
the Dr finally gave him the all clear on the Thursday 28/12/06, but wants to see him in 2 weeks for a check up and maybe have a heart ultrasound done in Sydney children’s hospital. :fingerscrossed: everything is ok when he has his check up.
we also came to a decision on his name as we only had girls names picked out.
Rylan Jonathon
9lbs 2.5oz
50.5cm long
36cm around the head.
made his appearance 10 days overdue
he's been really good, feeds every 4 hours then goes back to sleep.
sorry to go on, and i hope i didnt scare anyone with my birth story either
