Hello Glenda!!

I was hoping you could please direct me..... I am still having to put thickener in my daughters bottle, she has just turned one. If unthickened she will vomit it up (milk only). She is not bringing food up all the time though, only very rarely she will have a little sickie.

Is this concerning to you, should I be taking her back to the pead. because of this?

Thank you!!!!

Anne-Marie

Hi Anne-Marie,
I would think, especially as it is concerning to you, that talking to your paediatrician would be helpful. No matter what age your children, it is important you trust your instincts, and at the very least, they will be able to give you peace of mind. If it is something, then you have brought it to his attention and it can be followed up.

Having said that, no matter what you have been told about when refluxers grow out of their reflux, it is quite common for them to continue well past the age of one. if she is otherwise healthy and happy, and gaining weight well, then the paed may not be too concerned.

Is it just the spitting up, or does she have other issues as well? Is she feeding well, sleeping well etc? I have found that older refluxers seem to display their reflux differently to what they did when they were babies. You may find it comes out behaviourally, with things such as being really sensitive, losing the plot over nothing much at all, moody, clingy, or has temper tantrums. If you notice any of those kinds of issues, then it may be something more than just the occasional spit up to consider.

I hope taht helps.

Glenda
