View Full Version : Boori Sleigh Cot - worth it - any similar ones?
I have always LOVED the Boori Sleigh Cot and want to get one in white however Im not sure if I really want to spend the money (especialy considering the fertility treatment and future IVF might just mean our finances dwindle!)
Does anyone know where to get these a little cheaper? I look on eBay but with something this size they generally only do pickups in their state...
Does anyone know of a similar looking cot as an alternative?
Thanks
Hi
When we were looking at nursery furniture, we did see the Boori Sleigh and immediately wanted it for our baby.
After a bit more of a look around, we found that Sunbury , also produce a sleigh cot (with one side off, becomes a toddler bed too), so we got one in walnut (heavily discounted from a shop display with one scratch on it). We got a matching chest of drawers, so I've used it as a change table with a change mat on top. We even got the wooden highchair, as it matches our dark wooden dining furniture. It took about 6 weeks for the order to be processed to delivery. It was easy to assemble, good quality
Check out their website.

Hi,
There's a Love N Care brand which has an almost exactly looking cot to the Boori Sleigh, available at a fraction of the cost (Boori costs $990 and Love N Care costs $600) or recently, I saw a similar Bruin cot, on sale at Toys R Us for $600, and you get a complimentary matching change table.
Toys R Us often has big sales on nursery items, so check out their catalogue regularly, you'll save heaps buying the things you will need in advance from them, than buying everything from the one Baby store (as I did) because although convenient, you'l save 15% off maximum. At Toys R Us, you sometimes save up to 60%.

I forgot to post that we shopped around for our Boori cot and came across it at 'Baby Kingdom' with a great sale.If you purchased the cot you got the boori matress worth $150 for free, and if you purchased further Boori goods you got 20% of the entire lot.We got the cot draw for underneath and the matress for less than the cost of the cot.It pays to shop around.
Thanks for the help girls!

nicoleE. perhaps call up Booori and see if they have any factory seconds.
I did this with my Mali Furniture cot.
The change table, cot and mattress for both would have cost me $1350.
I got it all for $750.
I put them up this weekend expecting to find really obvious scratches on them, but there was hardly anything wrong with it. negligable dents. Plus in 9 months it's going to have little bite marks all over it.
I saw the one at ToysRUs and fell in love. Then I went and looked at it and couldn't get the side down. I asked if the side comes down and they said no! That's why it's always on special! Don't even think about getting it, it's a waste of money if the side doesn't drop down!
I wanted the boori sleigh cot too, but in the end we went for the boori ranch cot, which was a few hundred dollars cheaper. it converts to a toddler bed but not a sofa. In reality as we want a number of kids and this is #1, so it's unlikely a cot will survive to be a toddler bed, let alone a sofa in a future life!
I thought about getting white, but I looked at a change table from boori that they had in white and i must say it looked plastic-y to me, and the wood stains looked much better. We went for a wood stain (can't remember the name of course ... gotta love pregnant brain!).
When I got my cot, I also bought the mattress, change table, change table mattress, bassinette & pram at the same time and we got 8% off the marked price of everything. It does help to buy lots of things at once. That was at Baby Bunting.
Yeah I wanted a 3 in 1 type cot.. well really a 2 in 1 will do as I want a cot and the ability to have it as a little sofa for their bedroom(s). I figure this will be for our 1st child and hopefully we will have 2 or 3 and by the time the 1st one is ready for a big bed im hoping we will be getting ready for the second ;) (ok.. ok.. we gotta make 1 first! )
I liked the idea of white because i figure you can just paint over it if it becomes chipped or something where as its harder to match a stain. I used to think of having a really dark wood stain but i really like the look of a white nursery with some nice added colour, it looks 'clean' to me (dont ask why!)
I think we probably go with a boori because i do trust that it will last through our kids. Now I just have to find a good special and get a good deal. I am managing to hold off until I actually get pregnant though! :D
Thanks to all for your help.

I like the idea that the cot becomes a junior bed, cos IF we have another bubba, it won't be until Bianca's 4 or 5 years old

we've just bought (or had bought for us) the boori 'paddington' and 3-tier changetable. the cot, changetable and the boori mattress were all discounted. DP's mum also managed to get a further $170 off the price as well (she used her 'i'm a pensioner' line :D).
glad to hear that other people are extremely pleased with their boori purchases!!

I also couldnt resist the Boori Sleigh:o . Nicole I see your in SA. There's a shop called Baby Junction on Magill Road, St Morris and they give you 15% off when you buy 15 or more items. I did this and the 15 items can be anything like dummies, manchester, toys ect. I did a big layby when I was about 22 weeks and got the pram, cot, car seat, sheets, breastfeeding pillow ect. Once you do your big layby they give you a VIP card which gives you 10% off all stock for a whole year. This comes in handy when you buy the extra things you forgot like car window shades, extra sheets ect. The customer service there is fantastic too. And no I don't work there, I just like shopping there.:)
We have the Boori Sleigh cot and can not fault the quality. IMO that's why you pay so much more for it than other brands.
Features such as the one handed drop side is invaluable when you are trying to put down a sleepy bub (the Sunbury requires two hands) and the mechanism is hidden so no chances of getting little fingers caught.
If you hunt around, one of the original partners in Boori has started their own company called 'Johnsons' (I think) which is very similar to Boori and is still Australian made (Boori is now made in China).

My local Babies Galore store is a Boori 2nd's outlet. I know a couple of people who have saved a lot on their Boori cots there.

I haven't spent a lot of money on cots for my little munchkin and his sibling to be, but when I do splurge on things, I will often justify the price by looking at the resale price on ebay...
For example if you buy the cot you want at $900, (I don't know the price, just saw it in this thread) and that same cot sells for around $500 on ebay, well then you are only really spending $400 :D...
I do this with bubba's clothes, I buy expensive designer labels that I know sell for a good price on ebay, take good care of them and then sell them when he grows out of them... Like that I am basically paying half price :D.
I have the Boori Sleigh and just love it. I think it's well worth the money as it's so well made, extremely practical as it's so large and will see them through to toddler bed and beyond (with the sofa) and is easy to use with a one hand method to drop the side down. Here's a pic of my boy enjoying snooze time in his!

this is really great! we had Boori furniture for both our girls and in the case of dd1 - we bought everything new (being unaware of bargains on the web :o ) and apart from a discount at Babies Galore we paid near retail about $560 for the cot and $??280 for the table with the discount. her set was white, classic convertible cot and change table.
when we had dd2 we decided to buy another boori and let dd1 grow into hers by using it for the toddler bed. bought dd2 a paddington in a dark wood stain off ebay and got it for $370 instead of ??$800 (wish we had done it 1st time around)
anyway - before our move to brisbane last month we decided to sell dd1's set on ebay since it was still in near perfect condition (no teeth marks...) and WE GOT $473 FOR THE COT (so we only really spent less than 100!!!) and $215 for the change table (think it cost almost 300)
so be aware that if you can keep the gear in good condition you can get a lot back. otherwise just keep an eye out constantly on ebay and grab a little savings by buying it second hand.
