Curious to know whats in your cot/sleeping area. Wrapped? Toys? Sheets? Mobile?
Maybe we can add or subtract to get us more sleep.
Age would be nice to know as well.
7 months.
I have bumpers, a mosquito net which is pulled back as she plays with it constantly (soon to be removed). Nosheets, no wrapping,no toys. Poor bubby :)

DS is addicted to his wraps so theres always one in his cot (thankgoodness his not picky and will take any that are on offer!)
He has a dolly that he sleeps with too but he doesnt get fussed if I forget to put him in, as long as his wrap is in there his a happy chappy lol
I am getting a little concerned about the addiction to the wraps as he is older now almost 16 months and was wondering when is a good time to wean them off the comforters. My best friend in high school still slept with her "Pito" a little soft pillow thing (even when she had sleep overs at her bf house  ) I really dont want DS ringing me from a friends house at age 16 crying coz he left his wrap at home!!!!!

funny.. all of my brother and sisters had a "waa waa" blanket of some sort. It really wasnt a problem. Just another wean to do as they get older. :D
More More.. I hope I get a few replies on this post. ! :)

Yeah it feels great when people respond to your posts LOL :D
Max sleeps in warmish clothes because he's such a houdini! I tuck him in well but he always escapes and sleeps on top of his blanket.
I used to use a sheet and a little doona, but it wasn't big enough so I recently put a blanket in there that I can wrap right around the matress. Don't really know that it makes much difference though. He still escapes.
He has Boris the bear with him, but he doesn't really care that much if he's there or not.
He's a sleep acrobat these days, he has just started doing this. I went in there a few days ago and he was sound asleep with his bum right up in the air squashed up in a corner of the cot! what a peculiar baby.

Cathy DS does that too, head down bum up! puts me in mind of that childrens game "Heads down, thumbs up". He also likes his head to be touching the head board of the cot either end will do and his always waking with a mark on his forehead from it  silly bubba
In Jaydens cot he has 2 blankets and a sheet, his puppy which is his favourite, a ducky, 5 teddies and one that smells yummy and a snuggle bunny. He also has the aquariam soother, a mobile and a musical monkey.
I think thats bout it.

OMG Natasha is there any room left for Jayden to fit in LOL :D
In Chloe's cot she has a mosquito net, a pillow, 2 sheets, a blanket, her Winnie the poo bear night light, her musical moon & her Tie up rattly thingy. that's all for her.
LOL Yeh theres still plenty of room. Apart from last night I went in his room to check on him before I went to bed and he was sleep crawling, so I tucked him back in. (He gets that from his father).

Whats in my cot?? well............
1.Mattress, mattress protector, sheet on mattress, snuggle bed, toys at one end, mobile hanging over the top, fisher and price aquarium hanging on the side, womb monitor hanging on one end, sheet over the snuggle bed and blanket if cold.

maybe I should add a mobile. :o :o :o
Does anyone find it distracts them to stay awake?

Wow your bubba's all have a lot, poor Harry, he has a sheet and blanket and a mossie net around. That's it. I had a very sad experience of SIDS when I was pregnant with Harry and it made me really paranoid so he has nothing in his cot. He never got use to having anything in there so going to sleep is not a problem. In fact I think if I put something in there he wouldn't sleep.
Hi,
This may be a silly question - but I've heard that pillows are bad for babies to have in their cots, yet a few of you have said that you use them. Was wondering if it's 'safe' after a certian age or if its a load of bu11 to start with?
Thanks

Shaelia,
The recommendation is 12 months. Harry won't get one until he's in a big bed at the start of next year, again I have nightmares about SIDS and just won't risk it, even if the risk is small. That's just me, but other bubba like having pillows in with them.

pronounced say lee ah?
lovely name. I have a girfriend shaylee
pronounced shae la - my cat's name. I have really bad dyslexia (why oh why did they make that word so hard to spell!!!!) which is why it's a really weird spelling :)
Harry's mum - I am so sorry about your experience with SIDs ***hugs to you*** Thankyou for letting me know what the recommended age is - I don't think I'll be giving them a pillow till then!
For those of you with the fisher price aquarium thingy - is it any good? DH saw an ad for it on TV and as he loves fish, he wants to get one for bubs. I had a look at the price tho  $80 from Kmart - think I'll wait till it's on special!
Jayden is just over a year.
The mobile hanging over the cot doesn't distract Jayden from sleeping. Hes a great sleeper.

whats a snuggle bed?
Wow i didn't now that about the pillows thanks ill be taking it out, she never had one in the beginning it only lately but that's good to now thanks heaps.
Just a sheet. Once he was about 9 months old and start taking books to bed I put a bumper around so he couldn't drop them behind the cot LOL. It's a sidecar cot though so it just provides extra wiggle room for our bed. Sometimes there's a cat asleep in it :D

I think have confused some people, as a couple of people have pmed me. I didn't lose a baby to SIDS but when I was 12 weeks pregnant with Harry a close friend did. Her bub was 10 days old, since then I have nightmares and have been paranoid about losing Harry. Therefore poor Harry doesn't get anything in his cot, just so I can be sure of his safety. This is a very personal opinion and as he gets older and starts to move into a big bed I hope my fears will abate. Until I have another newborn!!!!!!
Thank you everyone who pmed me, sorry if I confused anyone.

My daughter is 17 months old and only has a wrap sheet and three dummies. The wrap usually ends up on the floor by the morning . The three dummies are for one in each hand and a spare incase she can't find one during the night.
When she goes to sleep she plays this silly game of swapping the dummies over that are in her mouth with the ones in her hands. They are constantly swapped in record time. It's soo funny to watch.
Janet.
Our cot has:
Baby dressed for the room temperature - he will not keep a sheet/blanket on and doesn't like being wrapped anymore
Dummy (1 only)
Cloth Book
Teddy Bear Cuddle Blankie
A few odd socks (he likes to munch on them - a security thing methinks)
Monitor
Musical Night Light
Bumper
A few odd toys tied to the top rail that look friendly
Eloise has a matress, bottom sheet, top sheet, blanket/quilt (or both if it's cold), Boo & Teddy (her bears), 4 dummies, Peanut (her pull the string musical elephant, a mobile with bumblebees on it (I spin them manually and she watches them and falls asleep - I think they might hypnotise her!), and a bumper (to stop her dummies falling through.

Chloe has mattress, mattress protector, bottom fitted sheet, small light doona, small pillow, her bear, baby washcloth (comfort thing), and dummy. And if the whim takes her we might end up adding 1 -2 more small bears, muslin wrap, books. She likes the doona tucked around her now but it always gets thrown off later. She's nearly 2 now, but that has been her bed set up since she was around 7 months (except the pillow, added at around 18 months). We did have a mossie net but she started playing with it so it got put away.

Wow everyone does have alot of stuff in their cots! I have also refrained from putting things in his cot, because I was drilled about SIDS when pregnant by midwifes and other mums etc and have been paranoid about it ever since.
I have eased up a little now and Xavier has one soft toy in his cot, but apart from that he has a mattress, mattress protector, flat sheet and a blanket. It's pretty warm here so he doesn't need blankets much at this time of year, in fact I have the fan on in his room most nights now because he sweats something chronic!
He ususally sucks on his blanket and also sleeps with his backside in the air, it's so cute! He never had a dummy so dont need to worry about keeping one on hand for him luckily. Oh yeah he has a colourful centipede toy woven in the bars of his cot to look at and a butterfly mobile on the ceiling to look at too.

Ryan is 17 months and has a fitted sheet, pillow and waffle blanket (which generally just gets discarded) then tonight he has his lullaby nightlight bear, a teddy, a musical mobile and a bubba reflective mirror thingy on the side of the cot. During the day he has a dummy but not at night.
The toys are really there so when he gets up in the morning, he has something to play with (and Mummy might get to sleep in for an extra 15 minutes....) Or...I could just not be addicted to Bubhub and sleep more at night.....nah.... :D

Well this post has been really informative. I might give Kirra a fave teddy to sleep with tonight, see what happens. Or at least put her mobile back up for her. Maybe i might get that xtra 15 minutes sleep. lol.

In Coby's cot there is:
Matress & protector, blanket on top to make it more comfy, sheet on top, knitted blanket, Fischer Price Aquarium (he hates it but i still have it there), a mobile that was mine as a baby that sings and his ears cover and uncover his eyes (do you get what i mean), a noisy pram toy thing with farm animals, a massive soft fish, care bear, easter bunny beanie kid, hamilton island bear, tommy pickles form rugrats.. and at night i squeeze my poor little son in there somehow!!
it sounds like a lot but they are small and he has plenty of room...
i bought a bumper but it never made it in the cot... i got paranoid about SIDS.. thought after a few weeks i swapped him from his back to his tummy...
anyone else sleep their bubs on their tummy??
All my DD has is her mattress, mattress protector and a fitted sheet.Oh and an Angel Care monitor that goes under the mattress.
We did have a mobile, but now that she's more mobile I had to take it out because she will pull on it really hard,I'm worried it might break or snap and tangle around her.For covers we use a sleeping bag or just warm all in ones.
Eventually I'll let her have a toy,but I'm paranoid about SIDS aswell.

Kirra sleeps on her tummy now by choice 7 mnths old.
I put the mobile back up last night and I dont think she has even looked at it. :)
So I think I will leave it at that. If she starts waking more than once a night I might add more toys. See how we go.

I have come back to this post for more info. Kirra is now 9 months. Qld weather is very hot, so bed time is a nappy and thats it. Of late though at around 4am she wakes up and she is cold and I have to go in and put jamies on her. This is now giving me a sleep in until seven. So I am contemplating putting a blanket it.
Because she is a safari girl, constantly moving around I have been worried about her getting tangled and suffocating, Ive seen her wrap herself up on the lounge room floor blanket, scared the bejezzers out of me.
I noticed a lot of mummies have blankets in with the bubbs around the same age. Are they big blankets? Do you tuck them in? Or just drop the blanket in there? I have a large range of sizes shapes and materials...so advise would be good.
Obviously she wont go..hmm im cold I might cover myself up! LOL. But maybe she could snuggle with it?

We don't have much in our cot a) I can't see the point of risking it given all the SIDS warnings (DS is only 6 1/2 months) and b) DS needs no distractions if sleep is to be had.
That said we do have a mobile that gets turned around for play on waking and if he's popped in the cot eg while I wash my hands after changing him. Unlike some babies who can watch a mobile and be lulled to sleep my DS can be so tired he can't stand himself and lay entranced under the mobile kicking, waving but also crying until its taken away.
Rhys gets wrapped before bed and then velcroed into his Safety Sleep (a cotton thingy that wraps around the mattress and has a bit that wraps around bub) because he is old enough to roll and apparently you shouldn't wrap babies who can roll. In winter we use a sleeping bag under his wrap but now the weather is warmer and only cooling down late at night I generally put a blanket over him before I go to bed (using 1 or 2 cotton cot blankets tucked in tight).
We also have an Angel Care Monitor with a sensor pad under his cot (thought it was a trifle pretentious but it was given to us so we use it and after a very snotty man set off the non breathing alarm half a dozen times one night I'm glad we have it).

Little dude always sleeps in at least a singlet and nappy, even when it is really hot. I worry that if he's naked then he might sweat and then get cold...
But then I hate the cold, if DP had his way little dude would wear only a nappy.
So apart from that he has a wrap that he holds onto to sleep, and a soft toy. Nothing else. Ah I lie, a mosquito net. Ah, and a dummy. That's it!
He's 6 months old.
In EJ's cot which is a bassinet ((full size)) top of a portacot she has a matress- sheet and blanket (more blankets if colder), 2 teddies and rabbit and a dog (these are all down the foot end where she cant get to them) and at her head end she has a lamaze frog that hangs off the side which she hits at when awake.
She usually sleeps in a tshirt and shorts if warm and a full length thin cotton body suit when cool cause she wont sleep with the blankets over her and hates being wrapped.
PS forgot she also has a lambswool underlay over the matress for comfort. (added this later)

In Caitlins cot there is a mattress (of course) with a fitted sheet, her puppy who she loves to death, a carebear and thats it. I usually put her in her grow bag if it is a little cool but lately I just put her to bed in her pj's, pants and top. I don't think she needs any more in there cause she just ends up throwing them all out when she wakes up and I have to pick the all up again. I did have a mobile but she learnt how to stand and would keep pulling it down on top of herself.
In Tyllee's got their is a mattress, a fitted sheet, a mink blanket to cover her, a carebear, two dolls, two teddies, a prayer hippo and an activity lion that sings, a pink teddy that is tied to the cot that you pull the string and it sings, an aquarium and a light display star. For bedtime I have started dressing her in warmer clothes, long pants and tops, because we have air conditioning in our bedroom and my DH refuses to go to bed without it on!
My brother died from sids, although it was 25 years ago still very painful, and I have always been paranoid about putting my kids to bed, but Tyllee is now 8.5 months and sleeps on her tummy most of the time. Its scary but you have to be realistic and as long as you heed the warnings from the sids foundations, the rest is totally out of your control. Scary I know, but the truth!

hmmm my DD's cot seems a bit barren in comparison with many of you ... maybe she is lonely.
mattress, with protector, fitted sheet covered by a large cheesecloth.
sleeps with a body wrap and at the moment just one blanket
maybe she needs a comforter?

Fantastic. I have added a teddy and a blanket!
I tried adding other stuff like teddies but she wasnt interested. They bothered her as she safaris around the cot and she kept rolling on them in her sleep. I have also added a wind up night light. Thats runs out after 20 seconds. Cost $50.00 so I may as well use it!
DS has the following in his cot
Mattress
Fitted sheet
Flat sheet
Lightweigh Blanket
2 pram toys attached to the side of the cot
1 magnetic soft pooh bear on the side of the cot
1 Tomy light show and music
1 Flutterbye Fisher Price Light show and music

Lucy has a mattress protector, fitted sheet, musical star that is attached to the cot, a huge cow and bear that hang over the side but she always pulls them into the cot with her, B1, elephant toy, book, small blanket and her special comfort pink blanket which she won't go to sleep without (as well as her dummy!). She's 7mths and doesn't like to be tucked into bed, that's why there's no flat sheet. So whichever way she ends up I put the thin blanket over her. She did have a mobile but she pulled it to bits!:D
Brandon has 1 fitted sheet, 1 flat sheet, Small soft Tigger ,Winnie the Pooh Mobile , Winnie the Pooh light show music box.

Kyen just turned one. He has a mattress, fitted sheet, pillow, bumper, a cot quilt and 2 dummies in his cot. Yds hates blankets so i usually just dress him warm for winter and put the quilt over him but he always kicks it off. In the summer he just wears a nappy and a singlet i usually take the quilt out though.

Lochie has the usual (mattress, sheets, pillow etc), his Anthony Wiggle plush pillow (which is almost the same size as him) and his fave teddy - Zebby.
In winter we add a quilt to the equation. I think less is better though!

Oz is 6 months old. He has his matress, two bath sheets over the matress (to help stop sweating), lambswool, fitted sheet. He sleeps in sleeping bags. He has his blankie (an old chuck rag  (clean!!!)) and his teddy. He also has a fisher price thingy on the side of his cot that play music and does a light show on the ceiling. This is a new addition and he likes it but isn't bothered if it's not on. LOVES his blankie and teddy though. As soon as you put him in the cot he reaches straight for his blankie. I think it's cute. Oh, in his cot he also has one of the moulded cushion things that stops them from rolling around. We don't use it in the port-a-cot (which he sleeps in in our room when it's hot - aircon!) so I don't know if it does much about keeping him in one spot - he can't roll yet anyway. He also has to have his dummy or we all know about it :p

After reading these posts I think I am depriving my poor baby doll. She has
A mattress
A lambswool underlay
A sheet
and then whatever blankets she needs.
I am really paranoid about her being too hot or cold so I have about 6 blankets/wraps on a blanket stand and keep changing them during the night!!! If I wake and feel cold I go and change her blanket. If I am hot, I will put something lighter on her
In this warmer weather, I put her to bed with just a singlet on and then when I got to bed will add a long sleeve nighty or sleeping bag - depending on the weather....
Like most other babies she never keeps her blankets on!!!! which is part of why I keep checking on her!!
I have just started quilting so will add these to the blanket stand
:p

My 8 month old DD has:
Mattress
Fitted sheet
Top Sheet
Blanket (in winter)
Care Bear
Blanket to hold onto or to put over her on cooler nights.
Sometimes a dummy - we are slowly getting rid of it - fingers crossed.
She sleeps in pj's suited to the temperature.

I found the mobile over the cot distracted my little boy while he was trying to sleep so I took it down. I also had a mirror attached to the side of the cot but I took that down too. At the moment he just has the mattress, mattress potector, fitted sheet and a flat sheet. The flat sheet occasionally comes out as he sometimes wraps it around his neck if he is struggling to fall asleep. He also has a dummy which usually falls out after 5 minutes and a teddy that he plays with or cuddles but usually ignores. Had a great day with his sleeps today as I put him to bed and he went straight to sleep everytime! (he's 7 months old)
OK
My DD has a
Fitted sheet
3 soft puppy teddies
small pink muslin cloth(since she was born)size of a pillow case
fisher price birdy night activity thing
2 Dummies
and in the last 2 weeks i have put a hard page book behind her bumper and in the morning she knows where it is and she will read and play for another 1/2hr,very handy when she does the 5am wake-up;)
A rabbit tied to the end that says a prayer!!
"Wow" she has alot in there and loves it all.

My DS has mattress, sheet and pillow & PJ's and a grobag suited to the weather. I don't use blankets anymore as he is so restless when he sleeps and NEVER keeps them on. This way he sleeps better and I don't have to keep getting up!:) I also had a bad experience with him when he was younger when he had moved around so much and had a blanket wrapped around his head!
Also has a Fisher Price bird light show on the side, a dummy and a little security blankie with a teddy bear head which he calls nice.
