I have heard of reflexology to turn a bub - pressure on the outside edge of the little toe. A friend of mine kept trying it, but eventually got sick of holding her toe for ages at a time, so put a peg on her toe  Baby turned the next day, wonderfully easy head-down home birth.

Hi. I haven't had a breach birth, but I believe I would go ahead with my homebirth VBAC if my baby was still breach....this is something I've been thinking about lately, not that it will be an issue. I believe the 'danger' in breach birth is not the birth itself, but the lack of experience most obstetricians and midwives have in breach birth these days. 100 years ago, when all babies were born at home with a midwife present, breach births were considered a normal birth, and rarely was there a problem. I don't think caesareans are intrinsically safer at all....but the fact that obstetricaians are well trained in caesareans makes them so (still, studies only show that it is slightly safer to have a caesarean than breach birth for baby....and, of course, it's a lot more dangerous for the mother to have a caesarean, so one must weigh it all up in their own mind). I believe the most important issue is to have a knowledgable care provider on your side. A lot of independent midwives are completely capable of helping a mother to bring her breach baby into the world safely...it's just a matter of technique. most breach births end up being very straight-forward events, anyway. But, do your research and come to the conclusion that sits well with YOU. At 33 weeks gestation, 5% of babies are breach, and it goes down to 3% by full-term. There are many ways to encourage a baby to turn. There is also the choice of having your baby turned in hospital, which is successful in 70% of cases. They do this at about 39 weeks though, so there is less chance of baby turning breach again before birth. There is a slight chance of baby going into distress immediately following this procedure, so it is always done in a hospital, where access to caesarean facilities are nearby. This, of course, is something to weigh up in your own mind, too, as you may find it better to let nature take it's course if you know you'd rather a breach vaginal birth to a caesarean. Good luck! :)
