Hey
I am thinking of moving to the Newcastle areas, maitland areas, raymond terrace and surronding suburbs but as i dont know what the areas are like to live in but have visited many areas many of times.

But my main question is can any one help me to which areas you would move to and which areas you would not even move to if you were paid $100million.

I dont want housing commision areas, areas where there are alot of trouble like bashing break n enters etc or just areas that are not very good to bring kids up in
Even if someone has said an area that they think is not good to live in and you think it is good then have your opinion and tell me its good or bad no matter what others think as i want all opinions.

I love the area I live in (Minmi) :D I grew up in the Mayfield area and wouldn't move there again after living out this way (Minmi, Fletcher, Maryland, Edgeworth). When I moved out of home I also flatted in Mayfield for a few years and had clothes stolen off the line, car break ins and a house break in at night while I was home by myself  I also worked in Maryville for a good few years and OMG the characters around there  JMO though. I prefer the outer areas of Newcastle. I think there are a few housing commission areas in Raymond Tce and Maitland so just ask the Real Estate agent before you consider looking. Good luck with it all :fingerscrossed:

Hi
I live in Central Maitland.
Some of it is dodgy, it really changes street to street.

I would DEFINITELY avoid:
Mayfield, Islington (Newcastle areas)
Thornton & Metford (near Maitland)
Rutherford (next suburb from Telarah - Telarah is ok I suppose, but if you can afford more $$$, live somewhere else).

Aberglassyn is ok I guess, lots of people like it, but I woulnd't want to live there because there is nothing there. It's just a suburb full of house plus a MacDonald's!

I would def love to live in central Newcastle - but very expensive!
If you like Maitland, there is a beautiful area just over the bridge called Lorn. It's across the river from me and it's a great area :)

I live in Greta, which is allright, if you don't mind driving to get anywhere, as there is very little in the middle of Greta. But a 15 - 25 min drive in any direction takes you to a shopping area, ie Maitland, Kurri, Singleton, Cessnock...you get the picture. You must like a wide variety of locals though:D . I do like the small school and the fact we could afford a couple of acres:thumbsup: .
My sister lives in Thornton and it's ok, though her kids don't go to school there, so maybe that has something to do with it. My mum lives in Telarah too, but she would live at Morpeth if she had unlimited funds, it is beautiful, but not cheap...
Don't know too much about inner Newcastle, my gf lives at Elermorevale, but unless you have plenty of moolah, then it's probably out of reach. Very nice though.

OK well I grew up in Rutherford. It's not as bad as people think. There's actually a new suburb there (not Aberglasslyn, it's on the Rutherford side) and it's really nice! We did have our house broken into twice (in 20 years) but when it happened we had no neighbours. We were the first house in our street....be the first house in a street in any suburb and you're going to be a sitting duck. We ended up with great neighbours and it was a great place to grow up! Rutherford Technology High has a bad name but trust me, we did more educational things than our friends who went to the catholic school. It just has a bad name...it's not a bad school.
We have lived in Telarah. A really nice suburb with lots of old people. The houses are old but I always felt really safe living in Telarah. There are a couple of dodgy streets but you stay out of their way, they stay out of yours.
I have lived in Tenambit (near East Maitland). I really liked living there too but didn't feel as safe as what I did living in Telarah. Got followed one night on a walk.
I have lived in Mayfield and everybody has bad things to say about Mayfield. There are some beautiful houses in Mayfield and we lived in a good part. We did get robbed, but the guy was caught and sent to jail. Seriously, you can get robbed anywhere. On numerous occassions I forgot to lock the car and had my wallet inside and it was still there the next morning every time. Mayfield is very reasonably priced and only ten minutes from central newcastle.
I would avoid places like Mount Hutton, Windale, Argenton etc. My best friend lives in Mount Hutton and they always have things happening in their street....and they live in a nice street.
I now live in Central Newcastle and it's great! It is expensive to live here but it has been our dream to live in central Newcastle so we've been working towards it.
We own a house in Maryville too...in the 'dodgy' part...so far nothing has happened to it.
The bad areas are pretty easy to spot...houses not looked after etc. so avoid those areas and you should be fine!

Hi,
I live right in Newcastle and its not too crash hot. Cooks Hill has become quite bad. I havent had too much trouble except random ppl wandering into my house when i lived near the beach!

I lived in the outter suburbs of Newcastle such as Lambton for a while and it was great...highly recommend it.

I love Lorn and Morpeth too....very friendly.

Good luck, enjoy Newy!

Hi

I live in North Lambton and really like it here but I grew up in Valentine and my husband and I will definately be moving out that way when I go back to work. We love it out near the lake anywhere between Warners Bay to Green Point. There are great schools and just the overall quality of life I believe is better. But it is expensive.
