my DD is 9months, and i think that she has started to show signs of hypoactivity with certain foods, i was wondering what food aditives/flavours?!!? etc could be causing this type of activity.
would certain fruits/vegies cause this reaction??
we gave her baby pandol one night and she ran around the room for 2 hours!!

Dear Delliepooh,
As far as I am aware, there is little scientific evidence to prove that certain foods or food types cause attention, behavioural or activity problems in children – this includes foods that are high in sugar. Many parents, however, see different evidence in their children.
The only way to tell if a certain food or food additive seemed to make a difference to your daughter’s behaviour or activity would be to undergo an elimination diet. This is always best done under the guidance of a health professional.
As a guide, it is always best for infants and children to steer clear of foods and drinks that are processed, or have added flavours, colourings and preservatives. Natural and unprocessed foods such as fruit, vegetables, meats and cereals are best for kids – I have not heard of fruits and vegetables having effects on children’s activity and behaviour.
Is it possible that unusual bursts in your bub’s activity levels can be attributed to other factors, such as feeling unwell or ‘out of sorts’, having different people in the house, special events (such as Christmas) or just becoming more proficient in her ability to move around?
If you feel that there are specific foods that cause changes in your baby, then discuss these concerns with your doctor or CHN before unnecessarily restricting your little one’s diet.
