Why prams/strollers/joggers have such high canopy's that don't seem to do much to stop the sun (especially in prams that don't have reverse handles) getting in on baby (i.e. protecting their whole body not just face), especially in Australia?!?! I have bought a shade-a-babe but because my canopy is so high it really doesn't stop sun on my DD's face unless it is middle of the day (I usually don't walk then anyway).

But you would think that some Australian pram designers (are there any??) would think to make a canopy that will protect bubs from the Aussie sun!!

When I was looking for a new pram when the one I had been using in NZ collapsed 2 weeks into living in Australia, I had to look for one with a higher canopy because my little boy was growing at such a rate that most of them would have been way too small for him in no time!

I ended up with a steelcraft swivelrite which had the zip-on shade/mozzie cover which worked really well for us.

My ds was the size of a 2yo at approx 6 months and by the time he was 2, we had the canopy off the pram and he was wearing hats and UV resistant clothing when we were out as he was too tall for it!

He is now nearly 4 and has slowed down considerably - he is only 113cm tall which is just above average.

I know the higher canopies are a pain for those with smaller bubs, but they were essential for us!

I suppose one way around this is to have a high roof canopy but one with a lower front?!? Does that make sense?? Or maybe all Aussie prams should be sold with a shade net or something. I don't know, I just know it is a pain going walking with the sun in DD's eyes (and we have tried baby banz but they sit too close to her face and she hates wearing them - also hates wearing hats but we will tackle that problem).

So I do understand about tall bubs having to have head room but I still think their should be shade standards on prams especially in Australia.

I have the Swivelrite too and while I hate the size of the actual pram (we call it the F250) the canopy and zip on mesh is superb for the sun. It's definitely a winner as far as sun protection goes.

My pram was fine thank God but then all Emmaljungas are made really well & the canopy can actually fold all the way over cocooning bubs in. Guess thats because they are a Swedish brand so gotta keep the snow out ;) Oh actually & they have a built in sun & bug mesh thingy !

My stroller i made sure the canopy was adjustable so that while Boof was smaller it was able to be lower & keep him protected.

Guess you just have to search a little !

Good luck :)

I saw an ad for a seperate sun canopy which could be used with your exisitng pram one, and could also be used on the car seat

BUT

I have been googling and searching for it, but cannot find it:banghead: :banghead:

(maybe I dreamt it :o )

But when I saw the ad, I wished I had it for when DD was younger, as she was born in summer, and the window shade things, just didn't really do much.

I will keep looking though!

Okay, after much searching online this is the closest thing I could find to what I was talking about in my other post here (http://www.babiesgalore.com.au/view_product_new.php?productid=1565&returnUrl2=%2Fshow_product_search.php%3Fsearchtype %3Dcategory%26categoryid%3D38%26subCategoryId%3D%2 6start%3D16)

Would be great if we could approach an Aussie company with the idea:thumbsup:

thats a good idea blueeyedgirl!
our pram came with a built in shade/bug thingy. But its only any good if the child is lying down, and ds hated it when i put it down because it meant he couldnt see what was going on properly.

We have the baby banz as well and ds doesnt like them too much but we just put them on for a minute or two each day and gradually increased it and now he is happy to wear them if we are in the sun, but as soon as we go inside he pulls them down!
