Garrett woke up this morning with a runny nose and a slight cough.
This mightnt seem like much at all, but to me, its scary as hell.
When Garrett was 2 weeks old, he got these same symptoms. Which then moved into bronculitos (sp?), pneumonia, RSV, Gastro. He was in hospital for over a week on oxygen and being tube fed.
Yesterday he was off his food a bit, but i thought that was teething, but maybe not.
Why i am worried is that because he got sick so young we were told that his lungs are now weaker (he was also born at 37weeks)...
What should be looking for next to stop it getting as bad as last time? I missed all the signals up until he had a weez and we had to rush him to ED last time, and i dont think i can go through that again.
I know it sounds over the top (he is 7 months old), but he has had a slight rattle in his lungs ever since he got sick. I dont think i could go through all of that again.
my son spent a yr after bronchilitus (i too cant spell lol) being sick with pnemonia twice and croup twice which all resulted from the initial infection so i know how you feel. basically wat the gp told me was if your ds just has cold syptoms they are fine. if they have cold symptoms plus a fever they need antibiotics. hope this helps

My thermometer is on the blink, so im sending hubby out to get a new one today. He was warm to touch yesterday, but hubby says it was hot (i thought it was warm...).
The problem with G is that, even when he was sick at 2 weeks, he didnt act sick. I cant go by his behaviour - as he usually takes it in his stride. He is alittle sooky this morning - but ...
I really hope this isnt the start of a repeat... Suemp, thanks heaps for that info! It will help alot!

update after his morning nap...
he slept for 3 hours (usually a hour if im lucky)
breathing through mouth - sometimes a bit of a pant.
still sniffling
heard a cough a couple of times, but nothing dramatic.
red cheeks (maybe from teething)
Hubby has gone to work, so i cant get to drs yet....
:hugs: :hugs: poor G i hope he gets better soon

Bekky sending you and Gman heaps of Hugs :hugs: :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:
He is lucky to have a mummy like you that loves him and looks after him so well. Im sure everything will be fine!!
HI Bekky.. it is scary when your bubs has been really unwell before... it makes you panic everytime they start the signs of illness again...
This is my advice..
relax :hugs:
I know easier said than done but chances are G is developing a cold... very, very normal for bubs, and he'll get HEAPS.
My Ethan was hospitalised in the high dependancy ward for bronchialitis when he was younger also.. and has carried a "rattle" ever since.. for ages afterwards i panicked at every sign of illness but so far he has only had minor illness's.
Keep this in mind, Bronchialitis is a cold .. that what it is! For an adult the bronchialitis "germ" only results in a minor cough, for a baby its worse. If you see the signs of illness coming treat it as you normally would, plenty of rest/sleep, fluids and panadol (if you think a mild fever is present ~ although a mild fever is often a good thing, means the body is fighting the germs off !)
If G starts going off his food or has laboured breathing (see if his chest recesses when he breathes or his head moves back and forwards more obviously ~ so working harder to breathe) then go straight to your GP or emergency dept at your local hospital and have him checked out.
:hugs: i hope its just a little cold and he is back to mischief soon
bekky - if you are worried (as all mums can be :D) dont forget that the Drs next to Grand Plaza (primary medical and dental- next to the car wash) is open till 10 tonight ... it bulk bills and you DO NOT need an appointment ..
when Jack was younger I took him there ALL THE TIME  .. it made ME feel better just to have his chest listened too ..
they have lots of doctors (although on a sunday there are obviously less working)
xx

Ohhhh. Thanks Jen! My Gp is 7 days, but closes at 1.30 on the weekend.
He is snoozing now.
Thanks Tracey - Ill keep up the rest and fluid and keep a eye on the other things...
J is on his way home, and he will be able to keep me sain and not panic.
Hey bekky, i understand what ur going through. Gwen was rushed to the ed in october because she got croup which was so bad that it cut off her airway, so she was on oxygen and adrenilin as well as a nebuliser (sp?) every 15 minutes, and because she was given to much adrenilin, she wasnt allowed to go home. She has server strider, and then after that settled down, it turned into chronic bronchitis. She was sick quite alot as a newborn too.
Hope he's feeling better today and that its nothing serious:hugs:
Hows G today bekky? Hope he is ok :hugs:
