Hey :) I just need to vent!!! ( I hope this makes sense to all!!)

I dont know if everyone has been watching the news- and the tunnel that collapsed under the apartment block... which is a perfectly valid news story...

BUT SERIOUSLY PEOPLE - DOES THE BIRD DESERVE SO MUCH NEWS TIME???

I know it is traumatic to think of losing a pet - but some poor people lost a LOT of possessions... and the bird was all ALL news channels... AND updates.. AND a current affair!!!!! - it IS a cute bird... and it has the name 'tweety' (cause its a yellow bird  ) but PLEASE!!!!

aren't there more important news stories??? surely ACA has SOMETHING else to investigate!!!

thanks for listening!!!!

I didn't see the news on every channel but to be honest I quite liked it. It was nice to have a bit of fluff and light hearted drama for once instead of all the doom and gloom. :o

Honestly I was more concerned for the students who had been unable to return to their home get their books to study for final exams.

They had the bird and the owners on ACA last night. I was already cranky at ACA because the story before was about 2 sisters fighting over a bl***y bridesmaid dresses. I turned to DH and asked "was that really news worthy, I could have lived without knowing that Kylie and Michelle are fighting over a dress", then the bird comes on.
I agree that it was a light hearted look at something terrible but may be the media should have been looking at who made the horrible mistake that caused it to fall in the first place.

Well at least they didn't cover the rescue of the bird live ??

But seriously for a long time I have ABSOLUTELY dispaired at what gets dished out as "current affairs". I cannot and will not watch that rubbish. And do you notice how some stories are recycled every few months (welfare cheats / dole bludging kids / phone company ripoffs).

And I think that paying ppl for their stories is morally wrong.

Cheers

It's obviously been a slow news week! "Australia waits with bated breath for the rescue of Tweetie....will he survive? Will the trapped cat get him first? How will they pull off the rescue? Where does he go from here?"

I think our friend Kevinbudgie would have been glued to the TV! What do you say, O's mum??!! :)

In regards to ACA, I really felt cranky that a segment about how the price of petrol was affecting consumer trends turned out to be a very thinly disguised ad for Harvey Norman!!! Who do they think they are kidding??!!

all that sort of crap is too dumb us all down iykwim, if we are to busy watching all that sort of useless rubbish we wont notice that our basic human rights are about to be taken away by anti terrorism laws, or that our rights as workers are about to be stripped. lol sorry please am not trying to start anything heavy just had to get that off my chest hehe:)

Isn't it crazy how we become used to the news being "bad", but when something lighthearted, cute and nice is flashed across our screens we can't beleive it

I must say I am all for some "good" news now and then, but I think they went a bit overboard with the tweety coverage!! - talk about overkill.

As someone said earlier, it would have been nice to hear about how exactly the damn building collapsed in the first place and what exactly they are going to do to fix so those poor people can go back home!

You took the words right out of my mouth. No one talks about how many Iraqi's have been killed, that doesn't get ratings does it. But the poor birdy in the apartment block falling into the hole does. There are so many forgotten people in the world today.
So sad, but so true.

exactly, and also like xkwizit said, all those constantly rehashed dole bludger stories etc, make me feel like yelling 'stop treating us like we are idiots, we can handle the real stuff!!!'

How's about sparing a thought for the poor guys working their a****s off at 2am down in the tunnel only to have tonnes of rock falling around their ears. Thats a pretty scarey situation.
