Ok so we all know about the "Dont sleep on your back thing" but I also read that you cant sleep on your right either.

Im getting so uncomfortable on my left and find myself rolling all around at night.

I have pillows all around to make me comfy.

How are all you ladies sleeping?

Also is the not sleeping on back thing for later in pregnancy?

Hi Leanne....sorry to butt in here....but....I have heard that the "not sleeping on your back" thing is a total myth - same with not sleeping on your left or right side....I read it in a medical journal I was reading at the Ob yesterday.

Best thing I got for sleeping while preggers was those long body pillows....its great cause I got to kick DP out of the bed and have the whole thing to myself.....:devil6:

 really?? So did you sleep on your back and right side while pregnant with Christian?

I wanna get a body pillow, i am currently using two pillows on each side to stop me rolling. Not that comfy!

When I lye on my right side ( it could be mind over matter here) i feel sore:confused:

I didn't sleep on my back only because I really didn't find it too comfy (ie if I did I needed to go to the toilet every 30 mins instead of every hour lol) - I did sleep on either my left or right...whatever I felt the most comfy doing.

Body pillows are really cheap and you can get covers for them now too:thumbsup:

Excellent, thanks for the advice Georgia! Im off to buy a body pillow tomorrow!

My DH is worried that Im having trouble sleeping this early in the pregnancy. Hopefully one of those pillows will do the trick:thumbsup:

i think it is more your own comfort thing about not sleeping on your back.

i find i roll on my back during my sleep and wake up more uncofortable for it. baby moves into your back, and you feel short for breath.

but i dont think i have actually been told you shouldnt do it.

hope you find a comfortable way to sleep.... cause nothing is working for me either!

Possibly very true Katherine.

You dont have long to go til your little one arrives! I remember the first night back home with DS, I was laying on my back thinking Aaahhh this is heaven:laughing:

Then he woke me for a feed LOL!

I always sleep my left side, and I found it has been more comfortable since being pregnant. What I do have for when I do start to get a little bigger is a wedge pillow for under my tummy, brought it at the baby expo before I had DS1 and is great for breastfeeding too.

I sleep on my back, my stomach (although its starting to hurt a little too much) and on either side.
I do what ever is comfortable at the time.

With being on the back tho, i certainly need to pee alot more.
Sometimes if im on my back and too lazy to get up and go to the loo i roll on my side and it gives a bit of relief.

My understanding with the no back sleeping thing is that it tends to slow the ability of the placenta to pass blood to the baby, this could be a myth but with DS I got out of the back sleeping anyway and haven't gone back. Now I usually sleep in the coma position on either my right or left sides. Later on I'll put a pillow under which ever leg is on top and prop my tummy a bit.:)

I always make sure Im in bed before DF (he works late nights so unless I stay up, Im always in bed first) so I can get a good position and he has to work with the left over space.

I often sleep on my side with my top leg hauled over something, whether it be the doona rolled up, a pillow or my poor DF!!

LOL! EXACTLY what I do!!

Poor old me is a classic tummy sleeper and will do anything I can to sleep that way for as long as I can. At the moment however, I'm sleeping in sort of the recovery position / on my tummy - but sort of up on my hip a bit. I can't sleep on my back when I'm heavily pregnant because the baby is too heavy and I also borrowed a body pillow from a friend which was bliss. I'm waiting for them to come back on sale in Target so I can go get one!

Oh also, I usually end up with the entire bed to myself for the 3rd trimester because I snore like crazy in the last few months. DH comes to bed with me but I usually wake up alone with DH in the spare room next door!

Me too, I used to think that once i had the bub i could happily sleep on my tummy again, but then the milk comes in!

It's always such bliss when you can sleep on your tummy again!

I've been sleeping on my tummy because I have a really painful windy tummy during the night and it's the only thing that helps. Also, every few nights I wake up laying on my back feeling as though I'm fainting, it's such an awful feeling and makes me feel really sick. Anyone else had this?
With trying to get comfy and getting up every few hours for the loo I'm just exhausted in the mornings! and this is just the beginning!

I have a windy tummy at nights too and get very blaoted, it sux bigtime!!
I am still sleeping all postions, a bit restless actually haivng trouble getting comfy and needing to get up to the loo several times a night.
I was told of not sleeping on your back in pregnancy and I tried not to last time but I often rolled onto my back in my sleep. I actually found it quite comfy sleeping on my back when heavily pregnant, bubs and I wouldl ie there poking each other lol!!
I am essentially a tummy sleeper so I am lying on my tum with my leg kinked up (or resting on the bunched up doona) to take the pressure off my tum. When that gets uncomfy I roll on my back then my side..........like I said restless!!!!!!!!!!!!
