Hi
We went there in October, it is called Paradise for kids. The place is great extremly kid friendly. They have by the lizard pool a cafe and a bar that is opened at nite and has family trivia nights, Karaoke.
They also have a kids club that is $25 a session (4 hrs) and the place is a qualified kindy
Definatly would go again.
Pm me if u want more details

Just try and avoid school holiday periods and long weekend holidays. Our weather is pretty good here all year around and we only really have mild winters.
I guess it depends if you are wanting to do a lot of water based activities or not and if you want to spend several days at the theme parks in a row or split them up over a week or so.
The theme parks (Dreamworld, Wet and Wild, Movieworld) are up the northern end of the coast (Helensvale and Coomera) so would be a bit of a costly taxi ride from Surfers -approx 25 to 30 dollars I think could even be a little more, which is something to keep in mind if you are not hiring a car and could blow out the cost of the holiday if you arent going to catch public transport (ie buses - the train stations are not within walking distance) They are not near the beach but are situated inland off the M1 motorway.
There is a hotel/cabin/bungalow/caravan park called Gold Coast Holiday Park thats recently been upgraded and appears to have hotel like accommodation now at it. It is on Siganto Drive Helensvale/Oxenford which is the closest accommodation to Movie World and Wet and Wild and would be a super cheap taxi ride.
They appear to have some childrens based activity areas ( a super large jumping balloon /pillow type thing that kids bounce all over - its kind of like a jumping castle without the sides on it - I think its about 25 metres long) a huge outdoor chess set etc. They should have a website.

We've been to the Gold Coast in May for the last 2 years. The weather is great, it's not too hot that the kids (or us) cannot spend the day wandering around the theme parks - for us it's the perfect time to go.
We've always stayed at the Grande Florida Resort in Miami. It doesn't have any organised children's activities but we weren't interested in them (we were busy enough with the theme parks every day!). It's got 2 huge pools (one heated) and a nice little children's pool with shade sail and a sandpit & bbq area. It's a low rise complex and the beach is just a short stroll away.
The most kid friendly resort I've stayed at up there was Paradise Resort back then it was the Macqure this was when I was when me and dh travelled to Australia in 2002.
Last time I went to the Gold Coast we stayed at Sea World Nara Resort and it is also very kid friendly and also a bit more of a holiday for adults.
