It was interesting, but what's with the creepy naked lady in the bath??
that naked lady is fiona giles, author of fresh milk, a fabulous book of collected stories of things related to breastfeeding. in her book there is a story of a guy who comforts his baby by letting her suckle on his nipples so i wasn't suprised to see her....i did find myself wondering how they got the candles to 'float' in the air behind her....ah, the magic of television...

  uh-uh...I actually found the sight of that man with the baby latched on totally repulsive...putting him in a beanie and flanny, like the stereotypical 'Aussie bloke' wasn't making it any more acceptable to me either.

There is a tribe somewhere and only the men breastfeed the babies - the women don't lactate, only the men do. Or something like that, i'll look it up and see if I can find a link....

Wow. After working in psych services for a number of years, I was aware that there were some antipsychotic medications that could have the side effect of making men lactate - I never really thought anything of it, except that it would be an awful side effect to have from medication!
Since watching that video, I've just come across this, (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/779647/posts) this (http://www.unhinderedliving.com/nursingfather.html) and this (http://www.unassistedchildbirth.com/miscarticles/milkmen.html) too. Amazing stuff! It would be nice if DH would breastfeed too - imagine being able to share those early days of breastfeeding difficulties between the two of you! The late night/early morning feeds - the ability to go out without bub and not have to worry about expressing! It would be awesome. I don't know that DH would go for it though....
I think the ability of men to be able to breastfeed is the worlds best kept secret!
Imagine what a difference it would make if both parents would feed the baby...
Perhaps it is the answer to world peace... bring out the nurturing side of men to that extent, and perhaps they would be less inclined to blow people up and go round shooting and killing etc.
Yes, I live in hope.
When Tyler was a baby I was always offering to latch him on to DH to 'get his supply up and working' unfortunately DH was not as enthusiastic about it as I was...

Well DH & I Just watched it. He said it looked odd bf a baby, which i agree, it did. But in saying that, he wasnt disgusted.
It is an interesting concept to say the least. Though, i do prefer it as being something that only I can do. He can help do every other thing, leave the bf to me

I think it's very interesting, i'm stunned, I never thought it was possible.
I can see it now, passing my next bub in the middle of the night onto Daddy for a feed.
Some of the men in that video had quite hairy chests, I can imagine this little bub coughing up furr balls. Poor things:laughing:

I'm with you on that one!!! Howcome we didn't know about this before? :p

I watched it with hubby last night and he had the same reaction. He wasn't disgusted by it at all - in fact he said that it would be a fantastic way for him as the daddy-to-be to be able to bond with his child. However, I dont think he is about to begin using a breast pump to stimulate his mammary glands any time soon

It'd stop people saying to me "Oh, you should just give him a bottle so that Chris can feed him and give you a night off." for one.

i did place this in the celebrate breastfeeding section because while funny, a little tongue in cheek , possibley a little sensationalist and perhaps a bit *strange* i really didn't think it was repulsive at all.
breastfeeding and comforting a baby is a wonderful thing and that looked like one very comfy bubba snuggled up to her dad.
beautiful:hugs:

Yanno, I just remembered something
When Claire was about 12 months old, she infected my nipple with impetigo - it was HELLISH. It ended up in 2 trips to the emergency department for me, over a public holiday, because I couldn't breastfeed her anymore, couldn't express, could hardly wear anything next to my skin. I ended up needing intravenous antibiotics, it was awful.
Anyways, as we were going to leave, the emergency doctor came into speak to me, and made some comment about me doing well to have breastfed for 12 months, and asked when I was going to wean. I told him I had no plans to in the forseeable future, but that for the next bub, it would be my DH's turn.
Never once did I believe that what I was saying could be a reality :p
That's great.... DH watched it with me, and said he would like to, but would be too embarrased and that it's just 'weird'...
hmm... I bet he will latch her on when I am not looking, lol.
I think I would get jelous... I love that sometimes only mummy (and her boobies) can calm Olivia!
