Hi there,
I have a 15 month old DD who was BF until 8 months old. Since weaning Maddi has been on Karicare soy as she is allergic to cows milk protein.
At present she is still having 100ml of formulae with breakfast, 200ml mid afternoon and 200ml just before bed. I haven't weaned her off the karicare as the only "dairy" she has is yogurt as she won't eat the soy cheese, or soy custard that I make. My question is how long should I be giving her the Karicare for? And what should I give her instead? There are so many soy milks out there that I would like to make sure I give her one with the right constituents in it. She has a healthy appetite for solids but also loves her milk. To date I haven't tried her on regular soy milk.
Thanks for taking the time to read my query, this is such a great forum.

Dear Bingo,

Your question may be more comprehensively answered by a paediatric dietitian who specialized in allergies and diet options for children. In the meantime, I can give you some starting information.

As I understand, if you are happy with the Karicare Soy your daughter is currently drinking, there is no reason to look at changing that until she is 2 (and possibly older).
Generally, I would suggest that 500mL of formula daily may be too much for a 15 month old, as it may interfere with eating 3 meals + snacks of solid foods. Your case may be different though, if your little girl is not able to replace a milk feed with a custard / yoghurt / cheese alternative. 4-6 serves of dairy each day is recommended for her age (with a serve of milk being 125mL). So you will need to consider her diet overall.

Again, please talk to a dietitian for further advice and recommendations specific to your situation.
